It’s been 28 years since Kurt Cobain died and it’s always surprising and yet, completely understandable, how much his life and death and music still affects people. When you read the accounts of his last few months, it’s just so apparent that everything failed around him. 

And you know, in 28 years, not that much has changed in the way we approach mental illness and addiction. I think to the KPOP deaths of recent years and it serves as a constant reminder for me to be kinder and more understanding to other people. 

Anyways, to end on a positive note, Nirvana’s MTV Unplugged album is one of the best albums of all time. I never hesitate on giving it that kind of ranking. Here are some of my favourite songs from that set: The Man Who Sold The World | Where Did You Sleep Last Night | All Apologies | Something In The Way.

I don’t have a favourite Nirvana song because I only reach for them when I’m in a certain mood. For total catharsis, these two are my most played and the closest to being called my favourites because they have my favourite lyrics in them: You Know You’re Right | Aneurysm.

I was devastated to learn that Taylor Hawkins, drummer of the Foo Fighters, has died. I just cannot believe it. I have known about him and the band for literal decades and this is just so sad. I have been fortunate enough to see them live and I’m glad I have that memory. 

Of course, I think mostly of Taylor’s family and his children, but I also think of Dave Grohl, who has now lost 2 band mates in the most tragic of circumstances.

Sebastian Stan is absolutely vile for cheekily stating he watched Pamela Anderson’s stolen sex tape as ‘research’. Why did he need to watch that? Does he not know how to have sex? It’s a sex tape. What do you think happens?

Pamela has been exploited for years and has not come out in support of the Hulu series. I know the writers reached out to her but when she did not respond, they just carried on with the project anyway, hiding under the “we are very sympathetic to her character!” excuse. It just seems like nobody cared about her opinions and feelings back then and nobody cares about them now. I hate that this is happening to her again. Just leave her in peace damm. 

I get that Tommy Lee gave his ‘blessing’ or whatever but let’s not front: the central character in this whole thing is Pamela. Her feelings about this project matters. Ignoring them is 100000% contradictory to what they were trying to achieve. I loathe to use the word but yes, I am cancelling Sebastian over this. I was never a fan of Lily in the first place so nothing of value was lost there. I’m astounded a fellow woman would think this project is a good idea. Sorry you’re so morally bankrupt Lily.

Honestly the best piece of advice I can give to younger girls trying to figure life out is to completely ignore men. I’m not being quirky or cute when I say that, I mean it seriously. Ignore men’s judgments of you, ignore their insincere compliments, ignore their half-assed romance. Focus on developing yourself. Practice your art, play sports, do theater, volunteer, spend time with your friends, but do not put substantial effort into pleasing men. They’ll be there for you to pursue when the time comes and if you want to. But nothing will waste your youth more than fighting for male acceptance.
