I've been having anxiety about staying home alone. Someone robbed us a few days ago but didn't take much. I've had this fear before but now that it's happen it makes my anxiety worse. Any tips to keep calm and safe?
Hi honey,
I’m so sorry this happened to you. I do assure you that the person who robbed you is probably long gone. I don’t think they would stay in your area because they would be on the run- or better yet they’re caught and serving time for the horrible actions that they choose to do.

Tips on how to stay calm:
Laugh or just force a smile; the positive attitude is contagious.
It’s probably easier said than done but focus on what needs to be done. Panicking and acting over emotional is damaging to yourself which can make matters worse. Ending up in the hospital because of a stroke or heart attack is not the way you plan on taking care of the stressful situation.
Practice getting out your comfort zone daily.
Meditation is also a good method for calming yourself.
Write your thoughts and worries in a diary. This way, you can process them privately and effectively, getting them out of your mind and off your chest.
Focus on someone else who is in the same situation as you and try to tune in to that person’s calm. Remember that if he or she isn’t nervous, you probably don’t have to be.
Avoid Swearing / Shouting - Many people think that this calms them down because it releases bottled up energy / anger. This is a common misconception. Yes. Release your anger. Do not hold it in all the time or you will explode. Do not take out your bottled up anger on those around you. Swearing only hypes you up more. You think you feel better but really, all you’ve done is put yourself in a destructive habit. If you need to shout, find a place of solitude and let out your anger. Cry. Do not punch a wall. Find a pillow or something that you won’t cause any harm to and scream into if you must. Just avoid taking your anger out on others because then guilt will stress you even more. Talk about your problems as they occur; don’t put it off. Taking care of the problem now, can eliminate the possibility of blowing up later because your anger was taken out a long time ago with civilized discussion.
Stress about future events is mostly caused by fear, and stress over things in the present is usually caused by a feeling of powerlessness.
Pamper yourself. Sometimes bubble baths and music can make you feel better.
If you feel that you’re going to lash out at somebody because they are “totally stressing” you out, close your eyes, breath, and count to ten.
Hope this helps,
–Shelby (:

Me : yeah I can finish my homework in 5 minutes
Lemony Snicket : Many things can be done in five minutes including enjoyable events such as confessing your love, opening a gift, or eating a delicious meal, as well as miserable events like death, a violent crime, or a severe anxiety attack... one thing that cannot be done in under five minutes is a ten page essay, a word which here means "a student's worst nightmare", and while I can assure you, dear viewers, that the boy would achieve one of these feats within five minutes, I am sorry to say it was not the essay, but rather the anxiety attack.

being a naturally smart kid with adhd was honestly so damaging tbh because throughout grade school i just immediately understood every concept explained to me and i did well in school on intelligence alone, which was fine at first, but it meant that i never learned how to cope with things i didn’t understand immediately, and also nobody ever noticed my adhd since i wasn’t having trouble in school, which meant i would blame myself when i couldn’t focus and get incredibly frustrated with myself for procrastinating so much. so like, when school started to catch up with me, and my methods of just throwing my brain at things started to not work anymore, i literally didn’t know how to do school work. i would procrastinate or straight up avoid work i didn’t know how to deal with and i developed crippling anxiety over school and eventually major depression. like it eventually got so bad i had to leave school for a couple weeks. and like, i finally got diagnosed, and now I’m taking meds for adhd, but to this day, i still don’t really know how to learn or work efficiently and i kinda wish id been forced to learn this stuff in grade school instead of eleventh fucking grade when i really need to be doing good in school for college
