Writeblr Intro!
I'm honestly a lurker (trying to cut back on social media and games in general to write more) but I do use this void to talk about writing, my WIPs, and a little bit of my life, so I figure I should pin a good intro post!
About Me
★ Name: Andagii for fanworks, Nagisa for original content.
★ Afro-Okinawan - African-American and Okinawan. I speak Japanese and English fluently and know some Uchinaguchi too! :)
★ INTJ-A | Aries | She/Her | Early 30s
About My Writing
See my works here.
★ Genres - Fiction and fantasy and magical realism, oh my. Some romance too, but X-rated content is still beyond me. So I've been practicing. Ehe.
★ Motifs - Space and stars and light and color. I was a Lisa Frank kid. Oh, and the sea! And the sky! Quiet places and tall grassy fields. Solitude and discovery and the night and rain. Family and connections, some love and romance, journeys and adventures.
★ Characters - Reserved and introverted, but proactive. Secretive even with me dangit but learn to open up. They examine their worlds and fight for their places in them. Distant, objective, but passionate.
★ Personal Essays - I'm on Vocal! I can't claim to be an expert on anything except my own experiences and stories, so I write them sometimes.

These Rites of Severance - Progress 1/?
I refreshed my screenwriting knowledge and discovered Scrivener’s screenwriting template, so you can probably guess what’s been plaguing my brain. Probably. A few years ago, I’d started writing and mapping a fantasy game for RPG Maker VX Ace. I called it Riosian Key. At its core, it was a story about a daughter searching for her father. It wasn’t very good. As in, it read Like a Video Game. So,…

Hmmm, Ive been liking a bunch of posts that aren't necessarily writing. Like, the number of nature shots and the like that make me feel good or are potential sources of inspo for me is getting kind astronomical.
I should probably make a side blog for that.
"Andagii Box-o-Inspo"
I kinda like it already.

Happy Year of the Dragon!
I love the idea of kintsugi so here's a porcelain dragon that highlights the broken seams with gold. Despite all the pains of hardships in life, we are beautiful.

Uncover your character's hidden layers by exploring their contradictions
Just like real people, fictional characters are complex beings with conflicting desires, fears, and motivations. Explore the dualities within your character—reveal the brave face that conceals vulnerability, the kind soul with a dark secret. Embrace the tension between their strengths and weaknesses. Readers connect with characters who feel genuine and multi-dimensional. So, let your characters surprise both you and your audience. Whether it's a hero with a flaw or a villain with a redeeming quality, the richness of contradiction adds depth, making your characters unforgettable and relatable.

A quick guide to animal symbolism:
Animals have a long history of symbolism that varies between cultures and customs. As literary tropes develop, some animal symbolism has become universally recognised in the western literary canon. Here are some examples you can use in your writing to give subtext, develop motifs, or promote your thematic content.
🐥 Birds: freedom, hope, escape 🦁 Lions: strength, courage, royalty 🐶 Dogs: loyalty, devotion, protection Cats: independence, stealth, mystery 🐺 Wolves: intelligence, nature, wildness 🦊 Foxes: cleverness, cunning, deception 🐍 Snakes: temptation, evil, deceit 🦋 Butterflies: transformation, change, new beginnings 🦉 Owls: wisdom, knowledge, mystery 🦅 Eagles: strength, freedom, nobility ◾ Ravens: death, mystery, the unknown 🕊️ Doves: peace, love, purity 🐻 Bears: resurrection, strength, power, new life 🤘 Bulls: virility, sovereignty, wealth

I'm tired of all those "10 Questions to ask your proofreaders"
Why? Because I would never actually say something like that to my friends. So... here's 10 actual questions to ask your friends who just read your draft
Favorite character? What do you like about them?
Can you connect to the characters?
Do you know what's going on?
Are there any parts of it that feel weird or disconnected?
Do you like it?
Do you want to continue reading it?
Favorite parts?
Least Favorite parts?
Can you relate to the characters in any way?
Is it entertaining?

Just as a reminder you can write entire pieces of JUST exploratory and speculation for your own WIP or story and they don't have to go anywhere. You are not beholden to a character arc or a rising and falling action with a conclusion. Sometimes you just wanna write a side scene with some characters doing some things. Or you need to just need to write what would amount to an academic paper about a certain landscape in your story. Like that's also fine.
Also these things don't need endings. When you finish them they're done. Even if it's in the 'middle' of something. You got out the part you wanted and now you're done and you satisfied the plot bunny demanding blood sacrifice of you writing that specific scene right now. Congrats you're done now.
Don't let the editor in your mind steal your joy of writing your silly little story. The mind editor is the thief of joy.

I forgot how lonely it is to write original fiction.
Where are the kudos? The subscriptions? The comments? The people cheerleading me chapter to chapter? Where are the kind words and compliments and reassurances that what I'm writing isn't complete crap? Where are the unhinged emojis? The asks on Tumblr? Where are my mutuals in my dms apologizing for not reading the latest chapter right away (side note, you know you don't have to apologize at all, right??). Where is the fanart? Where are the recs?
Where is my motivation to keep going?
It's something I've been thinking about a lot, actually, lately. How the experience of writing fanfic is so unique. How you already have an audience, willing and waiting and captive. And that's really it, isn't it? You have an audience. It's almost performative, writing fanfic. It's being on a stage, a one-person show (or two, if you do it with a friend); it's getting live reactions to your performance, it's feeding off the energy of the crowd and informing it back in a feedback loop; it's improvised, sometimes, in almost-real-time. It's building something that you couldn't have built by yourself. A thing that takes on a life of its own.
It's an experience you can't get writing original fiction, and, honestly, not having it is making it hard to write something original at all.
