A new project! And it sounds perfect for BC.
‘...The 39 Steps is a provocative, action-packed conspiracy thriller series that updates the classic novel for our times. An ordinary man, Richard Hannay, becomes an unwitting pawn in a vast, global conspiracy to reset the world order: 39 Steps that will change the world as we know it, with only Hannay standing in the way.
Cumberbatch will executive produce the limited series with his producing partner Adam Ackland under their SunnyMarch banner. Smith and Berger will also serve as executive producers alongside Sophie Gardiner for Chapter One Pictures, Cliff Roberts for Syndicate Entertainment and Keith Redmon for Anonymous Content...’

Benedict Cumberbatch To Produce, Claire Foy To Star In Migrations
Benedict Cumberbatch and Claire Foy have worked together in front of the camera a couple of times now (biopic Louis Wain should be in cinemas next year), and they've decided to team up behind it as well. Cumberbatch will produce, and Foy produce and star in new novel adaptation Migrations.
Charlotte McConaghy's book follows Franny Stone, who is tracking what may be the final migration of Arctic terns. When she hustles her way onto a small vessel of misfit fishermen and embarks on an odyssey through stormy seas, her dark past of love, loss, crime and motherhood unfolds in an ode to the wild places in and around us, and the extreme lengths one will go to for the people they love.
"Charlotte has created an utterly unique and beautiful story with a compelling and fascinating woman at its heart," Foy says in a statement. "I couldn’t be more honoured or excited to help bring this truly remarkable novel to the screen." Following a bidding war, Cumberbatch's SunnyMarch company snapped up the adaptation rights, with the hunt now on for a writer to handle the adaptation – McConaghy has a degree in screenwriting, so there's a chance she'll handle that job herself.

DON'T TAKE THEM FOR GRANTED
British actor Benedict Cumberbatch is the voice of an art installation dedicated to Romanian doctors fighting the COVID-19 pandemic
Don’t Take Them for Granted, an art installation dedicated to medical staff and all those in the pandemic’s front line, will be exhibited for two weeks in Bucharest’s George Enescu Square.
The project is a collaboration between Romanian photographer Cristian Movila, Swiss artist Capucine Gros, and British actor Benedict Cumberbatch, famous for his roles in the TV series Sherlock and the Marvel block buster movie Dr. Strange. The installation was first presented online at the UNFINISHED festival.
The project is a collective call to recognize the labor of this global pandemic’s frontline workers and, most specifically, the Romanian healthcare staff, otherwise invisible in the public space.
“In a social context that has a very hierarchical view of the medical world, Don’t Take Them for Granted focuses especially on the enormous routine effort hidden under the layers of our medical system. Too often eclipsed behind the doctors is an army of labor-intensive work (nurses, porters, assistants, cleaners, interns, technicians, clerks, couriers, guards…) who, in this time of violent need, deserve much more than being taken for granted,” the artists said...
As a lifelong ICU nurse, this was such a great thing to see and especially to hear. BC’s magical voice at it’s finest. But it shouldn’t take a pandemic for people to be reminded that this is an ongoing 24/7/365 kind of thing. Nurses, doctors, respiratory therapists, and all the many, many essentials needed to run a medical facility; are ALL heroes everyday. This type of care occurs every day, everywhere. So please, ‘don’t take them for granted’. Such a nice message to remember.

BENEDICT CUMBERBATCH SHARES HOW TO BE A GENTLEMAN IN AN UPSIDE-DOWN 2020
The acclaimed actor talks watches, wardrobe choices and what being a modern gentleman entails.
Few actors exude the same sort of charm that Benedict Cumberbatch does. The 44-year-old star of Sherlock, Doctor Strange and The Imitation Game – as well as countless other stage and screen marvels – is widely considered one of the most talented actors alive today, as well as the veritable model of an English gentleman: well-spoken, refined, and with impeccable taste.
Like any gentleman worth their salt, he has an interest in fine timepieces – so it’s no surprise that in 2018, he formalised a relationship with Jaeger-LeCoultre, one of the world’s finest watchmakers. Earlier this year during the height of COVID-19 restrictions, Cumberbatch produced a short film with the brand titled In A Breath to support the release of Jaeger-LeCoultre’s latest diver’s watch, the Polaris Mariner Memovox.

Filmed off Rakino Island in north-east New Zealand, Cumberbatch went freediving with the watch, drawing the parallels between his long-standing practice of meditation and diving – and the impact that both have on our sense of time.
DMARGE had the chance to chat with Cumberbatch; to pick his brain about the watch as well as what being a gentleman in 2020 means to him – and true to form, his definition was as considered and eloquent as a fine Swiss watch.
“Being a modern gentleman is about passing that platform onto other people,” Cumberbatch answered without a second thought.
“It’s beyond [just] style, stubble and a nice suit.”
It’s a valuable message for men in a year that’s seen so much social upheaval. Cumberbatch might be a celebrity but we all have a platform afforded to us, and we ought to use our privilege in a constructive way. You can like watches and fashion without compromising on your principles or having a zeal for social justice.
That’s not to say that Cumberbatch isn’t stylish – quite the opposite, really. He shared an insight into his personal style, which is largely unpretentious… Although he admits that he often likes to coordinate his outfit with his watch or watch strap.
“I like to dress down… Loose-fitting cotton trousers are a staple, [as is] Japanese denim and layering. I like vegan clothes, although I’m not a vegan through and through. Oh and underwear’s important – that’s a good starting point!”
As charming to talk with as he is on screen, it was clear during the interview that Cumberbatch is a real watch fan, as he played with the new Polaris Mariner Memovox.
“My relationship [with Jaeger-LeCoultre] started when I wore one of their watches in Doctor Strange and blossomed from there.”
“They’re beautiful things but I’m not that materialistic… I didn’t want it to be just a ‘ribbon-cutting’ relationship. I wanted to learn how the watches were made, so I actually went to their atelier in Vallee de Joux, and had the chance to play around myself… It’s just the geek I am.”
It’s a fitting partnership. Just as Jaeger-LeCoultre makes thoughtful, exquisite timepieces, Cumberbatch is an insightful, refined sort of man – we only wish that slipping on a Polaris Mariner could make us half as cool as he is…

Benedict Cumberbatch to Play Doctor Strange in Next ‘Spider-Man’ Movie
Benedict Cumberbatch will cast spells — not webs — as Doctor Strange in the next “Spider-Man” movie with Tom Holland, Variety has confirmed.
Cumberbatch’s casting marks the third major crossover between the films produced by Disney’s Marvel Studios and Sony Pictures’ “Spider-Man” movies with Holland, after Robert Downey Jr.’s Tony Stark appeared in 2017’s “Spider-Man: Homecoming,” and Samuel L. Jackson’s Nick Fury appeared in 2019’s “Spider-Man: Far From Home.”
Last year, after the billion-dollar success of “Far From Home,” Sony and Disney nearly broke up their unprecedented agreement to share the Spider-Man character within the MCU. Their new deal allows for a third Spider-Man film to be produced by Marvel Studios, and for Holland’s web-slinger to appear in another Marvel Studios movie for Disney.
After that, however, it’s unclear if Sony and Disney’s partnership will continue. But Sony is still moving full steam ahead with movies drawn from the Spider-Man universe of comics, including “Morbius” with Jared Leto and “Venom: Let There Be Carnage” with Tom Hardy. To date, Holland’s Spidey has only appeared in MCU movies. But if Doctor Strange introduces the possibility of multiple universes to Holland’s Spider-Man films, it could allow for the character to exist in future Sony movies that aren’t produced by Marvel Studios.
The third “Spider-Man” movie is scheduled to open in theaters on Dec. 17, 2021; “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness” is set to open on March 25, 2022.
