I saw a fanart of Annabeth with a red plaid shirt the other day. And because I’m a comic book NERD, my brain thought it was Spider-Man’s costume. It got me thinking.

What would a Spider-themed Athena Demigod look like?

My first thought is that their character would be a lot like batman. Spiders are Athena kids’ natural enemies. They would fear spiders. So if one of them adopted the spider as their theme, they would be embodying their own fear to leverage against others.

There might also be some kind of pride involved. This child takes pride in flaunting what is generally agreed upon to be a pretty jerk move on Athena’s part. It’s so weird cuz that attitude is exactly what Athena turned Arachne into a spider for, but perhaps in this context Athena might treat this demigod as some kind of dark favorite.

Another idea is Heracles. As in Hera - cles. Hera’s glory. This child of Zeus was named after Hera and after putting him through the ringer, she came to sponsor him. They had a very complicated relationship. What if this Athena demigod struck some kind of deal with Arachne (who is in the Riordan universe some kind of monster-goddess hybrid)? How would Athena feel about that? Would she disown, hunt down, or embrace this demigod?

So let’s make this character

Child of Athena, goes to camp halfblood in the 70′s. Her dad was mob boss and got himself killed when she was very young. She grows up appearing to be a star sheeple for camp halfblood. But secretly she’s the most intelligent, manipulative, power hungry demigod to enter the cabins in some time. She spends time in the forges late at night and constructs magic gauntlets that shoot synthetic webs.

She fakes visits from gods and fake prophecies, arranging a quest to Greece. She “loses” her questmates and finds herself alone with Arachne and uses her web shooters to present herself as an ally, and best her on her own territory. Arachne likes the idea of using Athena’s own children against her and blesses her with the ability to climb walls and the super natural strength and healing reserved for only the best demigods. She also teaches the demigod how to sense disturbances in the mist, like a spider senses movement in it’s web.

After learning all she can, she collapses all exits to Arachne’s lair and leaves the monster behind to rot. She never returns to camp half blood. Instead she creates a masked costume and starts hunting mafia leaders across the world. She’s known as the Spider Woman and as nothing else. The smartest, most ruthless crime lord in ages can't outwit her as she seeks revenge for her father. Cops and criminals alike try to take her down, and anyone who tries is met by the masked master or webs. An inhuman, undetectable super, the likes of which they’ve only read about in comic books or seen in horror movies.

Point is, I just made a demigod version Spider-sona out of an Athena kid 😁 The aesthetic is Spider-Man inspired. It’s got that Batman fear feel, and I even turned into a vigilante at the end there. I didn’t know I was gonna do that, but that’s how writing goes. If any of you can come up your own version of this that would be SO cool!

I spent DAYS on wikipedia for this so don’t tell me this is inaccurate, YOU'RE INACCURATE!! 😂 But the biggest problem is how inconsistent the original sources are. Usually you can headcanon your way around any apparent inconsistencies pretty easily, but this one was a real headache. I did figure it out tho,

SO HERE’S MY HADES

The main inconsistency was that (A.) you cross the river Styx to get to Hades, (B.) but some myths claim its actually the river Acheron, and (C.) some myths claim the Styx is actually a marsh in the center of Hades made up four rivers. The way I solve this is with a story.

Each river represents something. The Acharon is the river of sorrow, which will be important later. So I say that Hades’ domain is actually raised a bit higher than everything else in a colossal cave. All four rivers form the Stygian marsh which seeps down into the network of caves below and out to fill the river Styx that you cross most of the time. The goddess Styx gets to chill on the river with Carrion during this time.

On the months where Persephone is gone, Hades (loyal, wholesome, and massive simp) gets real sad and lonely. The Acharon reflects his sorrow and overflows like the Nile. The Acharon spills over into the styx, flooding it so much that the goddess Styx and her gross green liquid retreat back into the caves. That way in the Summer you actually cross the Acheron waters to get to Hades.

This is the only explanation I could think of that makes every statement true instead of contradictory, and I really like what it does for the character of Hades. Do you like it? What do you think?

Ok so my obsession with Annabeth. Ya love to see it. Here’s my pitch.

ANNABETH IS THE DEMIGOD ELON MUSK.

or Steve Jobs. So we know the Daedalus laptop was destroyed. But Annabeth’s a smart cookie. Say for a second she figured out how it worked. Why she can use it without attracting monsters. Say after a few years in college, messing around with assignments and building a PC she starts creating her own tech. Monster-free pcs, and phones, simple at first but getting increasingly more complicated as her friends ask her for their own and she’s forced to mass produce, involve other partners in her creative process. She builds a company that, while not huge, is HUGELY popular amongst demigods.

Take it a step further. She brokers deals with gods like Iris. She collaborates with mortals. 5G? DEMIGOD AND MORTAL COMPATIBLE. Suddenly she has a list of users. Not only demigods buy her tech but every demigod (nay, everyone with a lick of magic in their blood) is gonna prefer this tech. Demigod rescue booms to all time highs. She starts a charity organization called the Chase fund that rescues demigods and expands the resources of Camp Half-Blood, the Egyptian nomes, and Camp Jupiter, finally connecting them in lasting peace. That’s all her. She did that. Crossover Fanfic adventures abound.

But the best thing about it. She keeps her humility that she learned. She never sees it as HER empire. She stands on the shoulders of giants and among friends. Her company logo is Daedalus’ “D” but with a section taken out the bottom so it becomes an “A”, paying homage to him... Aslo all products are released in blue first and then colored skins are released a month later.

Not sure how legible this is so the notes read:

- Design looks like it's meant to spin.

- The Athenian shorthand A(TH)E.

- Egyptian inspired eye design.

- Eyes shaped like peacock feathers because #FuckHera .

- Looks like YinYang symbol to signify the completion Annabeth's character arc.

- So now, like athena, she has a signature and associates with owls.

Also, not pictured, they're EYES. which is a subtle reference to the fact that yours will not be working.

Also also I imagine it wouldn't collapse, which would be a bit cumbersome, but counterpoint she walks around with it on her back like Captain America. It commands attention and respsect.

OK so About Demigod Armor

As a child of Athena, who would totally spend most of his time in the workshop, I firmly DO NOT BELIEVE the camp-halfblood armor would be as one-note as we see in all the fanart. And as an artist I’m guilty of this too.

Maybe the standard-new-camper stuff would look like that, that they have the Hephaestus kids make as intro-practice. But it would take literally two (2) braincells for any Hephaestus or Athena kid (notorious camp-wide braincell thieves) to go "HhmMmMmM MaYhApS We CoULd aDD A LiTTle SoMEthiNg HeRe."

And them BAM. Complex designs, unique, playtested features, all based on the original design. Sure you gotta have Celestial Bronze in there. But you tryna tell me not a single (1) demigod in 2000 years thought to experiment with Kevlar, Leather, Canvas, Steel, Plastic, Felt, etc.? No one thought, "Hey what if but a Mandelorian?" or a dragon, or a superhero, etc.?!?!?!
