See, I told you Betty was a Sweater girl.
Bless this blog. I've always felt alone in that I never really had this strange, almost visceral hatred for Betty's sweaters. I think most of them, even the ones that are a little out there - are cute as heck. Including that short sleeve pink grandma sweater from the S4 promo pics everyone wants to burn so badly. Thank you for existing.
Hello anon—bless you tbh!
Tumblr media
Also, I feel you. Sometimes one’s individual taste doesn’t align with popular contemporaneous trends and/or other people’s tastes.
Interestingly, standards of physical beauty and attractiveness (ie, the things we cannot change) are as changeable as trends in clothing can be (and often are.)
(I swear, I have a point here.)
Rachel Syme (!) recently wrote a piece on high-waisted pants (!!) for the New Yorker. (This is relevant to recent conversation, as it happens.) Anyway—this reminded me the Jessica Simpson Mom Jeans Scandal of 2009.
(Below the cut—said scandal, costuming as storytelling, and the Sweater girl)

an update~
Hi friends! It’s been a minute!
I wanted to share an update on the status of this project, given I’ve been in absentia for too long without one.
I’m still very interested in interpreting Riverdale and the character of Betty Cooper through the lens of costume design. Long term, I’d really like to finish this blog having reviewed every episode of the show (I’m going to guesstimate it’ll last 7ish seasons).
That said I feel the show has sort of lost the plot. I know—that’s a thing we say about Riverdale every year, believe me, I know. But season 5...was season 5. It’s difficult to keep the long view of something when you’re still in the midst of it unfolding.
So where does that leave this project? On a bit of a hiatus. I intend to return to it once—hopefully—some things have leveled out, both on the show and in my own life. That might be in six months, it might be after it airs its final episode. I kind of just have to play it by ear.
In the meantime, thanks for following along! I hope you’ll rejoin me once I pick up the project again.
Wishing you many cute sweaters, Peter Pan collars, and plaid blazers.

i hope you’re doing okay! have you seen any of that time jump episodes? if so, how do you feel about bettys clothing choices
Thank you anon, I’m doing pretty good. What a nice message!
I have LOTS of thoughts about Betty’s post-time jump wardrobe, I’m just marinating like crazy over here. I want to finish up the season 4 episodes before I dive into the more recent stuff though. I will be one hundred percent honest, I feel newly rejuvenated to do so from last night’s episode, I cannot lie. I yam what I yam.

I don’t know that I can add anything to @bettsc's truly excellent commentary, except to emphasize that yeah: this writer clearly never watched the show.
The absence of the crown sweater (which is perhaps Betty’s most overtly symbolic piece of clothing in four seasons) seems telling. Listen, freelance writers sometimes get assignments they have little to no control over, or even any interest in. We’re all just Out Here, trying to Make That Paper. Maybe they just thought these ten sweaters appealed most to their eye; que sera.
One day I will make a Top Ten Sweaters post, but I gotta catch up with the episodes before I commit to that.
I need the experts’ opinion on this important topic. I feel like they missed some memorable ones, including the sweater with multicolored polka dots that Betty wore in season 4 and, of course, the crown sweater. I’m curious to know your thoughts @bettsc and @bettycooperoutfitwatch.

my most wonderful wardrobe-entranced sully: what are your thoughts on betty's s5 look from just the glimpses we seen so far?
Tumblr media
KIDDING, of course I have thoughts. Thank you for asking!
Under the cut are some super shitty screencaps.
We’ve seen more than a few glimpses of Betty’s post-time jump wardrobe/look, and I can’t wait to see more.
Let’s take a look at some details.
Tumblr media
Her hair is LONG. And DOWN. I’m into this. The tote bag is very mid-twenties working girl (...we all had one, and it’s not good for your shoulder), and I think the coat is tartan, but don’t quote me on that, it could be the shitty resolution (this is after all, a screen cap of a cell phone video of an on-set monitor feed).
Tumblr media
It’s pulled back with a barrette or maybe even a bow?
Tumblr media
The trousers are skinny and shoes are flat. No pink or pale blue to be seen (unless it’s under her coat).
Tumblr media
I think we’ve all decided this is defo post-time jump Betty, given how longggg her hair is in this clip. And it’s in a low ponytail! With loose pieces at the front! It’s either a) a whole new Betty, b) a Betty who is having a tough time right now (please recall 203 Betty, whose ponytail got ever lower the more entangled with the Black Hood she became), or c) in her mom’s house in her pajamas, why would her hair be up right now? OR d) some combination of the above.
Tumblr media
Betty’s got a gun (again).
Tumblr media
She’s also in a very casual t-shirt with varsity stripes on the sleeves—that’s some classic Betty sleepwear imo. (For an example, see 301 Floating Babies Betty.)
Tumblr media
(This is a screenshot of a gifset by @faliceplease, who honestly did the lord’s work because the original video is nowhere near this clear.)
BOOTS. Look at those boots. Those boots could murder a man, at minimum kick the shit out of him. FBI BETTY.
The outfit—long sleeve v-neck sweater, tucked in (I can’t remember the og color? It might be pink), skinny leather belt, fitted trousers. She’s a Professional.
Tumblr media
Her hair is also SUPER long, in another low-ponytail. I think Betty’s days of the high pony are in the past, at least as an everyday thing.
This outfit actually reminds me a lot of an outfit she wore in 210 The Blackboard Jungle, in a scene in this very kitchen, also opposite her mother. Too early to read into that yet.
Tumblr media
Pink crewneck sweater with a green leather jacket. Defo not season 1 Betty, and yet also not season 4 Betty.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(I stole this screencap from @lilireinxarts!)
THIS is interesting! But it’s also from promo, and historically costumes in the show’s dedicated promo spots are ever-so-slightly-heightened versions of what these characters actually end up wearing on the show. (See the season 2 promo, for example) (PS still fckn love that song.)
It’s almost a little bit Alice in the pattern play—but that’s not absurd. Betty and Alice’s costumes have always been in conversation, since they are family. The Coopers are preppy, and tartan is part of the preppy repertoire.
B u t: tartan is also something Betty has worn throughout the first four seasons in moments that thematically tie her to Jughead. It happens as early as 107, when they begin dating, and as recently as 418, when she shuts Archie down and tells him she loves Jughead while wearing a pink-and-cream tartan sweater (I haven’t done that ep yet.)
The hoop earrings are something of a minor departure; teenage Betty wore mostly studs.
As for other glimpses of post-time jump Betty, there’s this ribbed-knit striped tee, which tbh could be a Betty wardrobe item from anytime season 3 on, and a more graphic geometric sweater that reminds me very much of the one she wears in the Blue and Gold scene also in 418 (can’t find a picture of that one right now!)
I don’t know that I can draw many conclusions on all of this, beyond: Betty is a working woman in her mid-twenties, and she’s an FBI trainee, and her hair is very long.
I can say that all of Riverdale’s characters keep pretty consistent wardrobe silhouettes. It’s part of the show’s slightly-to-extremely heightened tone. We’re probably not going to see any huge departures from their eighteen year old selves to their twenty-five year old selves. We’ll definitely notice some changes, but also anticipate that more change will happen over time—as in life.

Tumblr media
Are there any other blogs like this for the other characters?
Tumblr media
Timely ask!
In addition to the previously mentioned @veronicalodgestylecompendium, there are now two individuals diving into Cheryl’s wardrobe. You can visit those at @theclosetofcherylblossom and @cherylblossomfashionanaylsis. EDIT: Oop—correction, there are three: @cherylblossomstylerating.
Is there space for two three independent explorations of Cheryl and her wardrobe? Fuck yeah! We read hundreds of iterations on oh-my-god-they-were-roommates, and each has a different voice, perspective, interpretation. The same can be said here.

4x15 Chapter Seventy-Two: To Die For
Jughead died as he lived:
Tumblr media
The world’s most dramatic bitch.
Tumblr media
But that’s okay, because his plan hinges on everyone else in Riverdale being just as messy—and it works!
Tumblr media
We finally reach the flash forward we witnessed in 410: the cropped red trousers, the stripe-y Juliet puff shoulders.
Tumblr media
I’m not even gonna get into the waste of public resources (search parties, forensics, all of this costs money), I’m just gonna wave my hands and shrug, it’s Riverdale, etc.
Tumblr media
One, this shot is really well set-up (the mirror fracture? Nice), and two, appears to have been filmed on a potato.
Tumblr media
Two potatoes.
Three if you include Kevin, whose exposition-delivery work in this episode is especially thankless.
Tumblr media
One of Betty’s two most-utilized purses this season, which are actually the same purse with slightly different stylings. This one is the simpler of the two.
The peacoat we’ve also seen a few times.
Tumblr media
Cousin Cheryl puts Cousin Betty on suicide watch. It’s a lot.
So much of the core four’s plan hinges on other people. This is pure Scooby Doo logic. Let’s not dwell.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I repeat, for like the 89th time, this show hasn’t taken set dec photos since season one.
Tumblr media
The raccoon eyes!
Tumblr media
We’ve literally seen all of this before, so I won’t repeat myself.
Tumblr media
Well, spoke too soon.
This sweater-of-much-debate first popped up in a flash forward at the end of 405 and then once more in 408. We’re really getting to the end of these flash forwards now, it would seem.
Tumblr media
...
Do you think Betty and Jug got into some felon role-play after all this was over?
You know what, never mind, never mind.
Tumblr media
🙃
Tumblr media
This shirt looks a lot like one Betty wore in 105. Maybe they’re the same, maybe they’re not. There’s a lot of season one touches in this ep.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Well.
Initiate phase 2 of the plan, I guess: let’s plan a funeral.
Tumblr media
Stripe-y ribbed turtleneck and a suede mini. This outfit will come up again, we’ll talk about it then.
Tumblr media
Throughout this episode, we see a lot of different characters wear touches of tartan. It’s not the first time we’ve seen most of these people wear tartan or some kind of check print detail (yes, even Hiram)—but here it sort of reads as their tribute to Jughead.
Tumblr media
Veronica’s collar.
Tumblr media
Hiram’s shirt.
Tumblr media
Archie’s tie.
Tumblr media
FP goes for a glen plaid suit and a windowpane tie, the extra is clearly genetic.
Tumblr media
Betty’s funeral attire is very classically Betty—sheer, swiss-dot puff sleeves, and A-line cut to the dress. Her hair is notably down, like the first time we saw her at a funeral.
Tumblr media
A lot of people argue that Betty wears what looks like a J+B necklace in Jug’s dream opening to 222. I always thought that was her B pendant necklace, but idk anymore—I could be convinced given its showing here.
Tumblr media
(Jellybean’s tights.)
Peep Betty’s pointy-toe kitten heels, with the little metallic embellishments.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Does Riverdale have a very active amateur theatrical society? Everyone’s really bringing their A game here.
Tumblr media
Betty reads an excerpt from Arthur Conan Doyle’s story “The Final Problem,” which...girl.
To keep it brief (ha), Conan Doyle intended “The Final Problem” to be the last Sherlock Holmes story—which he tried to ensure by killing off his hero.
But then fans got mad at him and after a while of that, his hero rose from the dead in “The Adventure of the Empty House.”
What a way to telegraph, Elizabeth.
Tumblr media
(Jellybean’s jellybean necklace!!)
Tumblr media
(There’s nothing so enjoyable as hearing Ms. Reinhart call someone a bitch in that Midwestern twang. Truly, a delight.)
Tumblr media
Anyway. People still have doubts about Jug’s life-status.
Initiate phase 3: the nuclear option.
Tumblr media
I really can’t tell if this ribbed long-sleeve turtleneck is a pale pink or an oatmeal, and that frustrates me. If it’s pink, well then Betty’s wearing pink and a rusty red-ish color—meaning the next phase of this master plan is underway, and it involves Cheryl being Riverdale’s other resident chief messy bitch:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Pink and red—as we’ve discussed several times before—are Betty’s Archie colors.
They’re not always a symbol of a romantic connection, but that’s defo the weight costuming is trying to impart here.
At this point, we (technically) don’t know that Jughead isn’t dead. Using this motif in this moment is just another way of trying to convince the audience that the act everyone is putting on here is real—both the internal audience within the show (RHS, the town-at-large, but more specifically the Stonewall group), and the external one (us).
Tumblr media
Visually there’s also almost too much going on with this shirt. Contrasting patterns, contrast v-neck, Juliet puffs on the sleeves. It’s a lot, it’s visually confusing in a way that mirrors the actual plot machinations of the story. Her mental state is stressed.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I include it for the boots and the skinny jeans, which are very season one-esque. Don’t @ me.
Tumblr media
A moment for Veronica’s knit.
Betty wore this very shirt, in another coloring, in 318! I like to think of this as another little costuming easter egg, that it suggests B & V are secretly on the same team here—and after all, they are.
Tumblr media
Same purse from earlier in the ep, and a jacket that first debuted in season 3.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
That’s the face of a girl on a mission.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Listen.
We know.
Tumblr media
Boyfriend’s S shirt.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
...consider how tame that fake kiss above is in light of this message.
Anyway:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Pour one out for the sex bunker of death!!
Tumblr media
What favor did Betty do for Archie such that she is owed a milkshake? Give me friendship shit!!!
Tumblr media
Visually, this is an intentional throwback to episode 102, in which Archie tries to apologetically text Betty after telling her he’ll never love her, only to be shut down.
The yellow shirt, the ballet bun, the shorts, the same gd teal phone case. It’s all intentional.
415:
Tumblr media
102:
Tumblr media
We haven’t seen Betty and Archie interact much this season between the time Fred died and...basically this plot. So these itty bitty crumbs are what’s supposed to make us believe all the shit that goes down several eps from now, but we’ll cross that (very dumb) bridge when we get to it.
Tumblr media
The cable-knit is kind of season one throwback, too.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
On the right her earring looks like a heart with an arrow through it, but idk idk.
Tumblr media
Her kicks are the same she wore in 403.
Tumblr media
I could say I’m including this here because she’s wearing plaid, it’s in honor of Jug, blah blah—but honestly it’s just cause she looks gorg here. That’s all.
Summary: T e n outfits, ten. That includes two we’ve seen previously in flash forwards, two sets of pajamas, and one instance of boyfriend-wear.
Is Betty a River Vixen??: ...only in Jug’s Stonewall spank bank. Also, isn’t the season over? Football ended. It’s fake murder season now.
Backpack 2.0?: Mhm.
The floggingink Memorial Peter Pan Collar Count: with all the season 1 shit being thrown at us, you’d expect it, wouldn’t you? But no.
Best outfit: I’m into the funeral look I think!

4x14 Chapter Seventy-One: How to Get Away With Murder
This is a PRIMO Betty episode. She’s fun as shit here, and the episode is also sartorially interesting.
Tumblr media
So many of the flash forwards we’ve seen this season finally come home to roost. We first saw this scene in 322. That was eons ago. That was also the episode we met Charles (put a pin in that).
Tumblr media
It’s a super vulnerable thing, walking around a set and acting in one’s underwear, but unlike a lot of other times Riverdale features its very attractive cast in their near-altogethers, it actually lends itself to the scene here.
Betty is vulnerable and scared and potentially exposed—in that she may have murdered her boyfriend and people know it!!
Tumblr media
(listen I asked actual sweetheart @stillhidden to lighten a couple of these caps for me, and she was kind enough to do so. This blog is still pretty low-rent though, so thanks for being chill. If you’re interested in closer looks at the clothing, I’d recommend @riverdaleclothing and @riverdalefashion, both excellent resources.)
Tumblr media
I just love that Veronica and Archie are wearing black—we rarely see Archie in black, so when we do it’s very easy to notice. It says something about where they both are mentally in this moment.
Tumblr media
Note that V wore this collar in 401, and that Betty herself wore a pink version of it in season 2 (217).
Which mirrors....
Tumblr media
...the fact that Betty last wore this doing-the-most Red Valentino sweater also in season 2! 211 to be exact.
Tumblr media
(This gif is a time vortex, watch with caution.)
Tumblr media
Interesting, a very deep wardrobe cut. What does it mean?
Tumblr media
Well, we learn very quickly that Betty here is working under the aegis of big brother FBI Agent Charles Smith. She’s called FP (who she lives with and still calls Mr. Jones, which tbh is v cute), and reads a script in which she tells him she hasn’t heard from Jughead since last night’s party and she’s concerned.
Tumblr media
In 211, Betty was both estranged from Jughead (romantically-speaking), and about to fall under the sway of her false-brother Chic, who at the end of that ep would initiate “the dark education of Betty Cooper.”
That absolutely mirrors whatever seems to be happening here—and please remember that at this point, we have really no idea what’s going on.
Let’s break it down:
Betty and Jughead seem not to be working together here—in fact, we have no idea where Jughead is since we saw him unconscious and bloody at the end of 413.
Betty is taking advice from a brother-figure, advice that seems to fall...into a legal gray-area, shall we say.
There’s also the fact that Charles and Chic are seemingly romantically-involved, per 406, which was so. fucking. long ago.
Tumblr media
The purse is the same one she had last episode, but the long teal coat is (I think) new to us.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Note the pockets.
Tumblr media
Boots, with a pull tab at the back.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(I’ve literally made this joke before.)
Okay, another moment, much like we saw in the last episode, where the reality of our world and the way women are treated in it is mad explicit in Riverdale:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Maybe it’s because I just read Sexual Citizens, but when we talk about women, and parties, and blacking out—all of these words don’t typically suggest murder, they're more often used in the context of sexual assault.
But that’s not what Riverdale is talking about here. We’re talking about Betty maybe having murdered her boyfriend in a fugue, hypnosis-triggered (not alcohol-related) state.
Also I really suggest Sexual Citizens, it’s quite good.
INTERSTITIAL PALATE CLEANSE
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Mary’s bi!!!!!! 💖💜💙
Well—I don’t want to label her, let’s just say she’s queer and IT’S GREAT.
/end INTERSTITIAL PALATE CLEANSE
Okay. I just felt like we needed a win before we continued.
Very quickly we move into the Betty-is-ruthless sequence of this episode. She takes aim at Archie, who she (correctly—sorry kid) views as the weakest link in this cover up.
Please note that while they are indeed covering something up, they’re also still trying to figure out exactly what they are covering up. This episode is twisty.
Shot:
Tumblr media
Chaser:
Tumblr media
And then!!! Then she does this, as though she somehow senses that Archibald is about to get honest with his mom:
Tumblr media
I am SCREAMING, she’s a total CREEP and I LOVE HER.
Tumblr media
(Cozy sock moment.)
Tumblr media
A sporty deep magenta, gray, and black knit top. Sporty clothing was a bit of a season 3 motif, and raspberry pink was a season 2 motif—please see again 211.
Tumblr media
Jellybean’s just tryna pass math, she doesn’t have time for this.
Tumblr media
Note the multicolor nature of the top.
Major intentional echoes to Betty’s childhood memories of being forced to brain her cat Caramel by her father, in 405 and 409, which happened either in this spot or very near to it:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
We’re supposed to be wondering what Betty’s capable of here. She put her injured cat out of its misery; could she kill her boyfriend?
Please note the tartan sweater, we’ll loop back around to it.
Tumblr media
But before we do, craft break!!
Betty wore a very similar pair of gloves last time she covered up a murder, episode 213. What a coincidence 💁🏼
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
She and Charles, in cahoots and wearing complementary pea coats. Like a couple of g-men. G-people.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I just really like that sequence of shots. Well done, team.
Tumblr media
This is a flashback—what a change of pace from all of this season’s flash forwards.
Tumblr media
She was drugged!! That almost makes her convo with Evelyn feel even..ickier.
Tumblr media
This is the fourth or sixth rear-shot of Betty in this episode (they’re not all included here). What’s this about? Consider that there are still many unanswered questions the viewer has at this point in the episode. Betty’s ahead of us, and she’s ahead of the game she’s playing with the Stonewall group.
We’re just trying to keep up with her.
Tumblr media
As I mentioned when this outfit first popped up this season, this track jacket first showed up in 316, and then again in 317 and 318, when she’s confronting Edgar. Maybe it’s her Confrontation Jacket.
The blue velvet boots are a Betty stand-by, I’m not even gonna link them, they pop up again and again.
Tumblr media
Channeling her boyfriend with this pointy finger here.
Tumblr media
Please note her eye makeup, especially the liner on the lower lash line.
We further unravel some of the season’s earliest flash forwards, and thus the outfits included in those flash forwards.
Tumblr media
There’s the search party in the woods, looking for Jug (402):
Tumblr media
There’s identifying Jug’s body in the morgue (404). That eye makeup finally has its day, some excellent raccoon tears.
Tumblr media
And then!! Then we get Betty in her boyfriend’s jacket, which is some of the cutest shit I’ve ever seen.
Give me a moment.
Tumblr media
Okay.
So this is Jughead’s jacket—one of his many, many, many jackets. We first saw Jug wear this specific sherpa in episode 105. It is not, as some theorized, the sherpa he was wearing when they first kissed in 106 (although he does wear this sherpa at other times in that episode, too). We last saw it on Jughead in 316.
Tumblr media
Okay, she’s cute but she’s lethal, and Donna knows it. She fckn quotes Hannibal Lecter. Outlook grim for Donna.
(She’s also wearing a necklace, but I can’t get a read on it.)
Tumblr media
Lace-up boots (that’s very Jughead, too).
She’s wearing a blue-tartan knit sweater, and the oversized nature of the tartan reminds me of the green tartan sweater she wore in Tangerine, the one I asked you to take note of earlier in this post.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I’m a broken record, but Betty so often wears tartan as nod to Jughead, and that absolutely the case in this moment, as she’s vowing to avenge “the man [she] loves.”
Tumblr media
She’s ruthless and I love it. The lengths she to which she’ll go are being tested and it’s so interesting to watch.
Summary: ...Six? This includes three we’ve already seen before in flash forwards (purple underwear, blue-and-green track jacket, and dino jacket—although that’s just a flashback in this ep, so maybe we shouldn’t count it?)
I Own This: That purple Natori bra. It’s super cute, I have it in several colors.
The Season 4 Crop Top Count: That blue and green track jacket is cropped, does that count?
The fucking dinosaur count: only in flashback...
Best outfit: Jughead’s jacket. I’m soft.

4x13 Chapter Seventy: The Ides of March
Hey. Sorry for disappearing. I was writing fic. And then I catalogued all of Jughead’s jackets. Pandemic, election. You know—stuff.
Anyway, season’s over (...sort of), let’s get to it!
Tumblr media
okay lol.
Betty’s smart, Jug’s into it, and she knows it.
Tumblr media
Her short-sleeve knit reminds me a bit of the sweater she wore to break into the Farm’s records room in 317, in that it’s a bit of a mishmash of colors and shapes. The cropped pants are something we’ve been seeing Betty wear in season 4 (see the last episode). I, personally, love a cropped trouser.
The pink platform Converse are the ones we first saw in 321, also at the Farm, but more recently were worn while working with Charles on FBI-ish Farm-hunting stuff in 402.
Do we think if Bret walked in and saw Betty in his chair, he’d be pissed? I feel like he’d be snitty about it. He seems the type.
Tumblr media
Ah yes. Another turtleneck under a jumper (an American jumper, fyi). This is a season 4 uniform for Betty.
Light blue is something we’ve certainly seen her in quite a few times, but a dark forest green, with a v-neck? That’s newish.
The lettuce hems are sending me to the 90s.
Also—Betty drinking coffee? If I recall correctly, that’s how you know shit is going down?
Tumblr media
Light-colored ankle boots—very season 1.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(Do you think Donna’s turned on? I think Donna’s turned on.)
Tumblr media
(Backpack 2.0)
Tumblr media
Behold those fuzzy slippers.
Tumblr media
(head in hands)
The fckn dino bomber jacket. It’s Murder Day, y’all.
This outfit first appeared in a flash-forward in 409. The oatmeal-colored turtleneck was also worn in 410 (another turtleneck and cord jumper look), when B & V worked to infiltrate a different Stonewall party.
Tumblr media
As for the plaid mini—Betty’s often worn tartan throughout the show as a nod to Jug, which—yeah, that works here, too. She wore this one in Quiz Show.
This bag has popped up throughout the season, first seen when Betty visited Stonewall with Jug in 402.
Tumblr media
Based on this terrible screenshot and one from when she’s in the woods later that is just too dark to inflict upon you, I’m like 85% sure these are the iridescent oxfords she wears in 412.
Tumblr media
I, too, am concerned with whatever is happening here.
As an aside:
Tumblr media
A plot seedling set in motion in 407 comes home to roost. (Listen, I’m out of practice, don’t @ me if my metaphors are wonky.)
I hate it. But it does give us this (admittedly rare) moment of reality from Riverdale:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
It’s true and I also hate it. Women suffer a disproportionate brunt of the negative results from what is misleadingly called revenge porn.
Fucking misogyny.
Tumblr media
...This is a very Alice Cooper stance, Elizabeth.
Tumblr media
If I’m completely honest, I still don’t get the plan. What’s the plan, Jug? What’s the bunny mask for? Note it’s the same mask Bret and Donna wore, also in 407—maybe Bret’s threat of blackmail made Jug think of it? How is this your means of getting rid of the leverage the Stonies have over you, Jug? I have questions.
Tumblr media
Even Betty is like what’s the plan here I don’t get the plan.
Obviously the plan doesn’t come to fruition, because Jughead gets ~murdered~
Tumblr media
idk V, you tell me!!!
Before we get to the end of this ep, let me just say the only folks doing this party right are Archie and Veronica, who sneak off to smash in the woods. Less murdering and getting framed for murder and being murdered, more smashing in the woods pls.
(Every time she says ‘make it’ I think of Joanne in Company.)
Tumblr media
Liquid courage.
Tumblr media
Whoops, didn’t work.
Summary: 3 outfits (not including a very brief flashback to her pajamas in 407)
Backpack 2.0?: hey friend.
The fucking dinosaur count: listen.
Best outfit: I’m not terribly partial to any of these? Let’s go with the green pinafore.

Hi! Any information on that amazing white and blue satin jacket Betty was wearing at the end of episode 4 X 13? The one she had to burn, to my immense sadness :-(
I direct you to @riverdaleclothing—it’s the same dino jacket she wore in the flash-foward in 409!

The key necklace! Do we know where it’s from??
Alas, anon! It’s never been really clear who produced this necklace. As far as I can tell, my stalwarts @riverdaleclothing and @riverdalefashion haven’t identified it.
Per brief research, some people speculate it’s from Orelia, but I think your best bet for confirmation is dm’ing Riverdale’s head costume designer, Rebekka Sorensen Kjelstrup, on insta.
The good news is that this is a super super common necklace motif! There are legit hundreds out there to pick from, at all price points.

Ah, thank you very much! What a lovely thing to read! I appreciate your message.
As I think I said in the post for 101, this was a project inspired by Tom & Lorenzo’s Mad Style series, which is such a unique and interesting form of television criticism, and has since inspired me to interpret and admire all the methods of storytelling that can manifest in a visual medium like television, not least costume design. I’m glad to have passed that interest on to you!
