i think narumitsu in particular has ruined shipping for me. if it’s not childhood friends to rivals to strangers to tentative acquaintances to dear, indispensable friends to lovers that constantly fight at every juncture but purely because they care, as well as polar opposites that slowly begin to take on personality traits of the other (for better or for worse) with this mutual borderline delusional perception that they somehow have an amorphous “debt” to pay because they literally owe their lives to each other, in addition to being a dumb smartass/smart dumbass couple, then i don’t want it

i think an underrated aspect of phoenix and mia's friendship is that mia singlehandedly helped little whiny over-emotional 20 year old bratnix through the worst breakup of his life. im just imagining feeny all sprawled out on the floor at fey & co blasting some sad breakup music and crying and mia just has to. gingerly step around him and go "it'll be alright buddy. do you wanna go get quiznos."

i feel like we talk a lot about the unnecessary feelings line but not enough about the whole conversation. edgeworth walks up to phoenix and expects him to start the conversation. gets mad when he tries to make small talk. speaks one single line with will powers, his childhood hero, and continues to talk to phoenix in front of him. tells a lawyer never to show his face again in court. completely ignores maya. that was a trainwreck of a social interaction and needs to be laughed at more.

What Ace Attorney is supposedly: A game where you play as a lawyer who fights for justice and meeting old friends and new foes along the way, making sure that those who are innocent receive the justice they deserve.

What Ace Attorney actually is: A game where you become a lawyer to find your long lost childhood sweetheart/best friend and along the way you fight for justice as well as awkwardly flirt with your childhood sweetheart/best friend who also happens to be a lawyer and somewhere along the way you end up being basically married with like three or four kids.

I think the thing that makes the Phoenix-Maya dynamic so uniquely excellent is that they’re both simultaneously the silly ridiculous one and the exasperated voice of reason in the relationship. Like, they’re stepping into a pitch-black room and Maya’s like “haha Nick are you scaaaaared?” but she’s hiding behind him the whole time. Or they’re watching a sappy movie and Phoenix is like “pfff Maya are you really getting all emotional about this?” but he’s like sniffling and wiping at his eyes. They’re both pathetic losers who share one brain cell that bounces back and forth between them and it’s just. So good
