Just a thing.
Not very important.
Kinda boring, really.
Nothing much going on.
Going to leave it here and go about my day.

Oh yea of little faith! ...the boys would somehow manage both...
If Rob James-Collier and Allen Leech put out a Downton Abbey re-watch podcast, it would either be the greatest content ever created or completely unusable chaos.

Low key still life of bob cat skull and hellebore. Having fun playing with different light sources, colours, and shadows.
The bob cat undoubtedly died of natural causes, as the skull was found in the middle of the woods.

"Use your words" is generally good advice, but it's also true that actions speak louder than words and there are times you need to shut up and use your damn actions.

Maybe, perhaps, no promises, but we'll never know if you don't ask.
I wish you would write a fic where...
Send me an anymous (or not) summary of the fic you wish I would write. (maybe I will write a tidbit)

That would be incredibly helpful, thank you! Also, if it's not asking too much, could you give me a general idea of the caliber of the mention? I mean, Cora and Mary...kinda gush. That's why I remember them so well. But I only remember a time or two, so I know I'm forgetting things. So if Edith is more...low key and kinda realistic? That would also be good to know.
Just trying to keep everyone in character...
Sitting here trying to remember if Edith ever mentioned Sybil after season three, outside of her wedding day speech to Mary, or if it was just Cora and Mary going "Oh dearest Sybil, we evoke your memory for plot purposes!"
...unfortunately I haven't time to rewatch the whole thing...

Okay, Sorry, Have to Whine
We're short staffed at work.
It's no one's fault, really. People have quit. People have transferred stores or department. People have had medical emergencies. It's all pretty standard operating procedure at a retailer, but it's all happened very fast and we're therefore spread rather thin. Management only has so many sources to pull from when it comes to filling in the scheduling holes.
And that's fine. I mean, we're struggling, but our managers are reasonable human beings and expect us to be struggling. They are doing everything in their power - including coming out and pushing carts with their own two hands - to keep us from struggling. It's fine!
...
Except that this week the 50 quart bags of Miracle Grow are on sale.
This is always a popular sale. We have a lot of gardeners in the area, so a good deal on soil will always bring them out in droves. Of course, a good many of these gardeners - I'd say at least 50% - are retirees. Makes sense, right? You've done your time at the daily grind, you like gardening, why not Miss Marple the heck out of the flower beds? I mean, you're at home! You have to look at your yard! Might as well make it worth looking at.
Thing is that retirees tend to also have health problems that make lifting difficult. At home you just get a child or grandchild or neighbor or whatever to help you move the soil.
At the store you have the workers.
At our store, you have the people who help load your purchases. After all, Miracle Grow is a purchase. Why wouldn't we help you?
...with your five, 50 quart bags of potting soil?
...and the next person...
...and the next person...
I know how to lift. My company makes good and certain I know how to lift! Offers to help me hoist the (hopefully dry, because if there is moisture in that bag Heaven help us!) bags is always turned down because it's generally both easier and safer for all concerned if I do it myself.
I am used to this! I have done it every year for dang near a decade!
...
I am used to having full staff. I am used to having at least five people to spread the work between us, not two! My legs are threatening to quit due to sheer repetition!
CURSE YOU, UNIVERSE! WHY NOW? WHY NOW?
I will now sit here and silently pray that we run out, just so we get a break!

I feel obliged to plug "Why We Read: On Bookworms, Libraries, and Just One More Page Before Lights Out" by Shannon Reed. Currently reading this and this sort of thing is covered pretty thoroughly by the author's alter ego Shanogas (an etheral Tolkien-esque creation who looks suspiciously like Cate Blanchett) in the section on being a Good Reader. Actually, I'll just put a snippet from the end here:
Picture a ball of light emanating from but yet also surrounding Shanogas. Her eyes flash. She raises a scepter, which is topped by a golden bookmark. In her deepest voice, like Cate Blanchette in Elizabeth when she's on a horse and leading her soldiers into battle, she proclaims, "Read what you want, how you want!" She can almost hear the raised voices of millions respond, "We will, we shall, and we'll stop reading if we don't like the book!"
...honestly, though, it's a pretty good book and if you deal with Reading Issues, like the OPs or any other ones, you might wanna give it a read. If nothing else, it's hilarious.
idk maybe a weird ask but any advice on how to enjoy romance books without being bummed out by discourse? i know they aren’t the pinnacle of literature or anything, but the recent stuff people have been saying about romance not counting as books has been kind of discouraging. have no idea why i’m asking this, i just wanna read my silly gay romance in peace without feeling guilty i’m not reading Super High Brow Literature. currently my main method is reading out of sheer spite, but any other advise is helpful. it’s not even just online, i get this irl too.
hey man in the most respectful way possible. who gives a shit. reading is for fun and guilt is for catholics. do whatever you want forever.

Okay, really. Gilded Age Peeps.
I've heard all about the dresses. And the other dresses. And some more dresses. And how sexy Bertha Russell is and how gay Oscar is and how Larry Russell was raised to Treat Women Right.
WHEN WAS SOMEONE GOING TO TELL ME ABOUT THE SHEER GLORY OF GEORGE RUSSELL EARNING "HUSBAND OF THE YEAR" BY LOOKING SOMEONE DEAD IN THE EYE AND GOING "MONEY TALKS AND MINE SAYS YOU'RE A LITTLE BITCH. NOW BE NICE TO MY WIFE, OR ELSE"?!?!?!

Seeing other writers on tumblr talk about writing is so validating because all of them are basically:
“I hate writing but I love it more than anything but it’s agony but I have a million stories to put to paper but I barely ever write a word”
And like I’ve always felt this way and I worried it meant I wasn’t supposed to be a writer, which tore me to shreds. But no. That’s just the curse of being one, I guess.

I have seen exactly two posts on the new Downton Movie and I am already tired of the fan response.
Edit: Oh, and looking into it, it's still not actually official. Imelda Staunton just said it was going to happen. She could easily have been saying that because she was tired of being heckled about it.

Annoying End to an Aggravating Day
I am, apparently, no longer allowed to knit.
Who has said so?
My dear fluff ball who has decided, after years mind, at the age of 14, to take an interest in my yarn.
Dang it, cat! This is the one therapeutic thing I can do for charity, what do you have against kids who need scarves?
...
Right. 'Helping'. Of course.
...
*sigh*
