I wish I knew when it was
That someone wrote me off
As a space to be filled
And I wonder when this body
Was nothing more than
The perfect thing for a punch line
-"its just a joke"

You are a different person
To everyone you know
To one you are a liar
Or an overemotional crier
Maybe you are mean and dark
Or even like a shark
To someone you are really nice
And another your heart is ice
You are not the same person
To anyone you know
But none of that matters as much
As who you are to you

You can mess with your words
To build people up
But don't mess with your words
To hurt me
It's okay to play with words
Not hearts

Why is the tongue
The fastest healing part
Of the body
When the tongue
Is the sharpest weapon
To ever be used
Against me

If I loved the person
That tried to ruin
The parts that were together
And normal
How much
Can I love the person
That fixes the broken parts
I thought were normal

I'm watching you apart
Wondering what happens
Inside your mind
What do you see in me?
With those eyes that hold the sea
Would your heart ever skip a beat
A single time when our eyes meet
Have I been in your thoughts?
Or maybe even your dreams
Or is a dream of me a nightmare
Filling you with screams
I'm watching you apart
An amazing piece of art
Wondering if you knew
I love to dream of you

Spring is yellow
The air is sweet
The trees are neon
The world starts to heat
Summer is green
The nights are warm
The clouds are heavy
And hold a thunderstorm
Autumn is orange
The leaves drift in wind
The world starts to sleep
Destruction is the way to mend
Winter is blue
Rain becomes snow
Life has diminished
And is waiting to grow
The earth has phases
Everything work a hue
Some better than others
But a soul has seasons too

The stars aren't out tonight
And all I can think of is you
And how you saved my life
I owe you a thousand times through
The wind is so loud
I hope I helped you too
All because your help
I stopped the things I'd do
The animals are quiet
And I can tell you this
Because of you I'm better
I swear, pinky promise

You said you'd love me forever
But I guess that meant something
As different to mine as could be
"You were a dream" you'd say
But when did that change?
And why could I never just see
That the lies you would say
Were always the same
And were never told just to me
But I guess your lies were such a weight
I forgot forever had an expiration date

You think you are a mistake
A failure and heartache
That the dandelions planted
Are merely a weed
But flowers are flowers
Desire makes things bloom
So there must be something
Worth the fight of life
The only thing killing you
Is your mind

Where have all the birds gone?
Power lines hold deserted skeletons
But not a single feather
The skies have emptied
Backyard birdfeeders
Aren't even for birds
Masses and flocks
Have gone to three
But as I look at the wide open sky
Where have all the birds gone?

Everyone seems
Like cookie cutouts
With the same fake smiles
Mismatched to their cold eyes
That throw knives
And these cookie cutouts
Are all the same
It seems that's the goal
To make equally beautiful
And terrible spirits
But who can blame
The cookie cutouts
When they were molded
Rough and unwillingly
To perfection
But it's not perfect
These cookie cutouts
They're all the same
Exceptionally unexceptional

Who am I?
I ask myself
As I lay awake
Alone
What am I doing
With my life?
As I simply try
To make a tomorrow
The ceiling remains
Blank and unchanging
On this cold 3am
But I have yet to answer
Who am I?
