I think it's so funny how we bred JOBS into dogs. I have two shih tzus and they were bred to be lap dogs. All they care about is looking cute and cuddling with people. Meanwhile my grandma has a border collie and that dog needs to feel so useful all the time, he acts like he will pass away if he doesn't have a job to do constantly

#you can absolutely give your dog a different job than it was bred to do #you don’t need to keep your border collie busy 24/7. if it gets bored or annoyed quickly you just haven’t raised them well #‘high energy’ breeds have an off button. they can snooze. they can learn to entertain themselves in a non-destructive way #if you give them the gd tools to do so. and that means giving them brain games they can do by themselves that cater to their needs #i see so many people work their high energy breeds to the bone and it infuriates me.they do NOT need to be physically exhausted to be happy #not to mention the effects that can have on their joints #high energy breeds are high energy because their brain works constantly and they ignore most pain signals! #PLEASE teach them that ‘done’ means ‘done’ and that ‘no’ is ‘no’. that they don’t need to be on high alert all the gd time #and PLEASE give them brain games. hide the toy they like to play with and let them use their nose. #teach them fun commands and practice every day. switch up the order often so they have to think #and most importantly #DO NOT get a breed whose needs you dislike #cannot meet #or refuse to meet
