The spiral turns once again and I find myself enjoying the cool weather and misty mornings. 🍂 The season seems to have shifted so fast and the darker days feel like they are rolling in faster than I anticipated. 🍂 Samhain Tide has always been my favorite time of year. Living in Oregon brings rainy days, misty mornings and beautiful falling leaves. 🍂 This is a great time to create an ancestral altar or to practice your divination skills. 🍂 I know this page has been quiet these past weeks. There are so many places these boots have been and there are still a few places yet to be discovered. 💦 May has been such a busy month. Lots of plants to plant, yard work, and spring harvests. Live has been busy but I wouldn't trade it for anything! Melusine Part 4 - The Banshee Dragon Woman 🧜‍♀️ Melusine and Ramondine lived happily together for years. They had 10 strong, but strange sons. Together they built villages and the land prospered. 🧜‍♀️ Each Saturday Melsuine would retreat to her secret bath to swim in the waters in her Mermaid form. For years Ramondine never looked for her or asked about her whereabouts. Until one day when Ramondine's brother came to town. 🧜‍♀️ He began pestering Ramondine, asking why she would always disappear on Saturday. He then began to sew gossip around the court and the villages and whispers of Melusine's possible infidelity soon reached Ramondines ears. 🧜‍♀️ Ramondine never had a reason to doubt Melusine, but the doubt crept in. One day while arguing with this brother about this very thing his brother asked.... Well, where is she now? It was a Saturday and Ramondine did not know. 🧜‍♀️ Filled with fear and doubt Ramondine searched high and low for Melusine. He soon found her in a locked bathhouse. He peeked through the keyhole to see Melusine, alone splashing and slapping her Mer-tails on the water. 🧜‍♀️ He instantly knew he had betrayed her and went back to his brother. He banished him from his presence and decided to tell no one what he had seen. Melusine instantly knew of the betrayal, but because he chose to keep her secret she kept quiet. 🧜‍♀️ Soon tragic news of their sons began rolling in. In his grief, Ramondine lashed out and began to blame Melusine for these awful events. In a fit of rage and grief, Ramondine said... 🧜‍♀️ "See what you have done, you demon woman... Your unnatural form has caused these tragic events" Melusine looked around as her maids and servants watched the scene unfold. 🧜‍♀️ Melusine's eyes fell with sadness, he had betrayed her once again, blaming her for the tragic events affecting her sons as well as outing her true nature to her staff. 🧜‍♀️ In her grief and anger, she ran to the window of the castle. She jumped out and turned into a fierce dragon. Here she screamed like a wild banshee and circled the castle 3 times. Melusine Part 3 - Wedding and her Secret Bath 🧜‍♀️ Melusine was so pleased with Ramondine and how he had listened to her instructions that she decided to marry him. However, like all good faery women do she had a bargain to strike. Melusine would need to hide her curse from Ramondine or he would find out her secret. 🧜‍♀️ So Melusine told Ramondine that she would marry him on one condition. It was that he could never seek her out or ask about her whereabouts on Saturdays. Unsure why she would want this but still wanting to marry Melusine, Ramondine agreed. 🧜‍♀️ When the Wedding day came, Ramondine and his Aristocratic family arrived at the location. When they did there were many rich-looking tents and so many people preparing such a lavish feast that they all exclaimed that she must be from a very rich royal family. 🧜‍♀️ A Knight wearing all white greeted them and brought them to the wedding feast. Where they ate, drank, danced and had a beautiful wedding celebration. That night they made love in the wedding bed set beside the magical spring that sprung up during Melusine's miraculous act of acquiring land. 🧜‍♀️ The Wedding Celebrations lasted for days always met with rich settings and lavish plates of food and wealth. When it was time for Ramondine's family to return to their home they were all given beautiful gifts, rings, brooches, jewels, and pearls of all types set in intricate gold settings. 🧜‍♀️ From here Melusine began to help Ramondine build Lusignan and brought wealth, structure, and fertility to the land. She built a beautiful home complete with a secret bath (or pool). Melusine Part 2- The Fountain of Thirst 🧜‍♀️ There once was a young aristocratic man named Ramondine. He was wandering in the forest after he accidentally killed his uncle. It was while roaming in a distraught state that he came to a fountain in the middle of the forest. In the middle of the night, but beautiful three maidens appeared as if they had flown in on a moonbeam. It was Melusine and her two sisters. 🧜‍♀️ They giggled and teased him as he passed by, not taking notice at all. Until Melusine called out to him. It wasn't long after that he was telling her the story of his misfortune. She then began to soothe him and instruct him how to get out of the sticky situation. She then promised to marry him, on one condition. That he never seek her out or ask about her whereabouts on a Saturday. 🧜‍♀️ She then gave him 2 magical rings and sent him home to mourn his uncle's death. When he arrived, he did as Melusine instructed. He asked his young nephew for a boon, a small portion of land. The size of the land would be what a single pelt of a deer's hide could cover. It was granted, drawn up, and sealed. 🧜‍♀️ That evening while in the village a strange man selling pelts approached Ramondine. So he purchased one like Melusine instructed. It was then turned into a single piece of sinew. When it came time to measure the land Ramondine was greeted by two very strange men. They took the ball of sinew and began to measure. They went around the mountain and still had enough sinew to measure out more land. 🧜‍♀️ When they did stop and came back to their starting point. Melusine Part 1 - Birth to Curse in Avalon 💦 Melusine is one of the three daughters of a Scottish King and a "fully-fledged nymph" named Pressina. 💦 When Pressina decided to marry this Scottish King she did so under the understanding that their union would bless and prosper the land and that the King would want for nothing. 💦 However, she had one stipulation. It was that the King would never look upon her while in childbirth. He readily agreed and they lived in happiness for some time. 💦 After a while Pressina became pregnant. When the day came to deliver the baby her nurses tended to her needs and helped her with the birth. Soon Melusine was born. The nurses were so surprised when Pressina began to deliver a second child! 💦 So excited they ran out to tell the King, he had not just one daughter but two! In his joy, he ran into the room to see his beautiful daughters just as Pressina was delivering a third daughter! 💦 Pressina understanding what had happened became angry. She grabbed her three daughters Melusine, Melior, and Palatine, and jumped out the window. She then traveled to Avalon where she raised her girls until they were about 15 years old. 💦 Around this time the girls found out that they were the daughters of a King! When they confronted Pressina about this she told them the tale of betrayal. They became angry understanding they could have been raised as Princesses with all the usual luxuries. 💦 They decided to take action. They came up with a plot to turn their father into stone as a punishment. When Pressina found out what they had done she became distraught. She still loved her Scottish King and was angry over the curse that had now come upon him. 💦 So she turned to her daughters and cursed them. Palatine was sentenced to live in a tower guarded by a flesh-eating hawk. Melior was sentenced to watch over her father's stone body for the rest of her life. Blessed Imbolc 💧🔥💧🔥💧🔥 We turn once more in the Sacred Spiral and find ourselves in the depths of winter and the Sacred Sabbat of Imbolc. Here we honor Goddess Brigit and merge the energies of Water and Fire. We see these energies merge in the divine greatness of the Goddess Brigit. Who is both a flame tender and protector of the Sacred Well. 🔥 While Brigit is most often associated with the sacred flame, childbirth, and blacksmith work; She, like Sulis is a goddess of fire and water. Though, it is important to note that they are very different deities. Brigit is most famous in Ireland where her popular Sacred Well in Kildare is visited, but she has sacred wells all over Europe including numerous ones in Ireland, Scotland and even Glastonbury! 💧 You may not have known that the White Spring is home to both Gwyn ap Nudd and Goddess Brigit. While many associate this place with Morgan la Fay it is actually home to Brigit’s shrine. She is not only connected with the White Spring but the Tor as well. There is a small carving above the entrance to the Tor depicting her and a sacred cow. 🔥 There is also a sacred location in Glastonbury called Bride’s Mound or Bridies Mound located on the west side of Glastonbury in an area known as Beckery Island. Legend says that Saint Brigit, who was is believed to be the human incarnation of the Goddess Brigit came to Glastonbury and studied in the monastery there before founding her monastery in Kildare. 💧 I am under the shielding Of good Brigit each day: I am under the shielding  Of good Brigit each night. That was exhausting, wasn't it? I felt like for weeks and perhaps even months that I was sitting on the edge of my seat, waiting for the next big traumatic thing to happen. I am feeling like that shift is here, and I am so ready for it! 💧 Now, it is time to refocus our practice and return to the water. Collectively we must continue fighting for clean water, to protect it, and to work sacred rites at the shore. 💧 There is an uplifting and triumphant feeling about the Keystone Pipeline's permit being revoked. I only hope that things like this continue. However, we cant leave it up to chance! 💧 Water Witches assemble!
