Many of you are entirely too young to know this, but the stuff in the Harry Potter books that we all find horriblw now was considered the norm at the time.
take all the anti trans stuff like the descriptions of Rita skeeter and boys being forcibly kept out of the girls dorms.
from 1997 to 2007 (the timeline of book releases) this was totally normal.
I say that as a trans person myself.
reading the stories nothing ever felt wrong or weird because this sort of thing was the overall cultural mindset.
many of you weren't even born yet by the time the final book was out. Or at least were just toddlers.
I am an almost 30 year old person. I was the generation that made Harry Potter into the major thing that it was. For us at the time, this shit was gospel.
However. We no longer feel this way because we have evolved.
It started with realizing Snape was a creepy asshole, not a hero.
the reason we are so disappointed and angry with JK Rowling isn't because of what she wrote back then, but rather how she still expects to have her work be treated as gospel in the present.
she cannot take criticism in any form and continues to try and squeeze money out of a franchise that frankly died over a decade ago.
the books as entities still mean a lot to me because they were the first books that made me excited to read on my own.
This is a big deal for any kid, but especially a dyslexic one.
I can still remember being a little girl and reading sorcorer's stone on my swing set under the falling autumn leaves of my maple tree. I was working on my science fair project and my breaks were spent reading instead of watching tv like usual.
But even tho that day was magical and still brings me a lot of joy, I'm not that little girl anymore. As a trans person, in more ways than one.
I'm an adult now and I can say without being sad that the books have not aged well. And their author even less so.
Harry Potter will probably never mean to future generations what it meant to mine and that's okay.
Because you all will have your own books that spark the same kind of internal magic that those did for us.
and I'd much rather know that my generation grew up to be critical, even of things we loved, to ensure that things keep progressing well.
Soooo my playlist mostly consists of character songs these days. If you’re like me and missed out on these masterpieces, they’re absolutely worth checking out. Warning, you will definitely might cry. For even more emotions be sure to turn on your subtitles!!
Here are my faves in no particular order :
Lan Xichen Character Song - Beyond Control :
already made an entire post about that one so i’m gonna keep it short
“the people from the past are no longer here”
Lan Zhan Character song - I won’t forget :
it’s very soothing, despite how painful and nostalgic it is. About waiting and searching for a certain loved person to the surprise of absolutely no one
“are you still inquiring ?” “where are you ?”
“is it even possible to forget ?”
“how to see black and white ? how to measure honour, disgrace, glory and its fall”
Nie Mingjue and Nie Huaisang Character Song - Separation at Qing He:
this song screams Nie Clan. It’s so fucking powerful and painful at the same time. About two brothers, grief and pain. Listen to this if you want to C R Y
I’m so confused. I really wanna know what the truth is (good luck to me on that one).
There was this GQ interview with Adam back in 2017 when TLJ was about to air. Why does he say “princess”? Does that mean #Reypatine has always been the plan (so there was a plan)?
By this time, they had finished filming TLJ already, so Rey Nobody was it. Was Adam trolling since he was so seemingly unconcerned by the “spoiler”?

You ever just stop and think about how much the cloud recesses trio changed from their youthful days. They went from the three boys who constantly broke rules for fun to eventually grow up and become the yiling patriarch, the sandu shengshou, the head-shaker. Each more terrifying then the other.
The accomplishments the three of them made are extraordinary and the villainous acts they have done are horrifying. Wei Wuxian who created a whole new brand of cultivation by himself but also murdered thousands of people. Jiang Cheng who built his sect from the ashes it became after the loss of entire family but also tortured and killed demonic cultivators. Nie Huaisang who avenged his brother, defeating a person who destroyed the lives of many people but also manipulated & deceived the whole world implying that he took advantage of a lot of people to fulfil his goal.
The saddest thing is they all become who they are now from the loss of loved ones. Especially the loss of a sibling which had a HUGE lasting impact on each of them. Jiang Yanli’s death made Wei Wuxian lose his very sanity. Wei Wuxian’s death along with Jiang Yanli’s left Jiang Cheng alone in grief with nothing but anger to cover it up. Nie Mingjue’s death left Huaisang with using his Intelligence in very callous ways for the sake of avenging him.
The unjustified deaths of their siblings changed the very core who they used to be. Wei Wuxian who was bright and hopeful lost his very will to live. Jiang Cheng who once sought for a life next to his siblings now rules an entire sect alone in loneliness. Nie Huaisang who preferred to live in peacefullness gave up that very peace he cherished for revenge.
And to think that they once used to be just some carefree teenage boys who sneaked in alcohol into cloud recesses to get drunk, sneaked in porn to read and tease their classmates on, cheated on tests and ending up getting caught, gossiped and talked about the type of romantic partners they wanted, went hunting for a chicken just because why not. They were just happy and carefree boys who ended up losing too much, too young.
“...if enough people complain, and they’re loud enough, then you’re okay with getting rid of us?”
I was pretty content with Rise of Skywalker but man it hurt my heart to see Rose Tico being relegated to the background after all the shit Kelly went through. Both Rose and Kelly deserved so much better. And all the people who felt represented by them deserved so much better. We deserved a moment in this movie we could be proud of, from a character we could look up to. Instead we got a character that barely interacted with anyone else. Rather than defend and support Kelly after all the hate she got they simply cut her out. What does that tell us? What does that tell the world? That we don’t matter as much? That if enough people complain, and they’re loud enough, then you’re okay with getting rid of us?
They had everything to make this movie amazing and fix the whole saga. I'm convinced that in a few months they'll be anouncing episodes X, XI and XI. Because that movie was not made for closure.
