it drives me bonkers the way people don't know how to read classic books in context anymore. i just read a review of the picture of dorian gray that said "it pains me that the homosexual subtext is just that, a subtext, rather than a fully explored part of the narrative." and now i fully want to put my head through a table. first of all, we are so lucky in the 21st century to have an entire category of books that are able to loudly and lovingly declare their queerness that we've become blind to the idea that queerness can exist in a different language than our contemporary mode of communication. second it IS a fully explored part of the narrative! dorian gray IS a textually queer story, even removed from the context of its writing. it's the story of toxic queer relationships and attraction and dangerous scandals and the intertwining of late 19th century "uranianism" and misogyny. second of all, i'm sorry that oscar wilde didn't include 15k words of graphic gay sex with ao3-style tags in his 1890 novel that was literally used to convict him of indecent behaviour. get well soon, i guess...

1 for the purim asks!
1. What's your costume this year? ( purim asks )
I was kinda dressed as Vash the Stampede from Trigun Stampede. I have the babygirl hoodie from steady hands and just used a punk top and pants. Nothing fancy since I didn't really leave the house but I wanted to keep the festive spirit !

I rlly rlly wanna get to know ppl in the jumblr community / mb even befriend em. I know I am kinda late to this. I honestly never realized there was a Jewish community on tumblr since I rarely use this blog. I have like 3 other blogs but they are for RP purposes.
This blog here was mostly so I could talk to FFxiv people & post my screenshots / Gposes somewhere.
But the 7th October made me feel so isolated in my hometown because there is barely to no community here & then a friend on mine on discord showed me a post & I saw the jumblr tag & I at the very least could talk a lil bit here,,, not bottle up all the emotions tbh.

Can we not do that? We cannot tell goyim that we are angry that they ignored or even celebrated the 7th October massacre and then go and make fun of what you very well know, is a good chunk of civilian suffering.
Yes Hamas needs to be destroyed. Yes UNRWA needs to be defunded and reworked from the ground up.
But we do not need to rejoice at peoples suffering.

because there are so few jews and because the majority of us usually tend to live in close proximity to each other, I am acutely aware every day that there is a good chance I am the only jew some people know. I'm a representative without anyone voting for me, without me even running for it. and my job? get people to understand we're human. be nice, answer questions politely, pretend you don't notice how they get kind of awkward around the subject. are they terrified of saying something wrong? or are they dealing with the uncomfortable fact that there's a jew in front of them, and she's just as human as they are, and you can't see any horns, and her nose looks normal, and she cracks jokes and tells stories like anyone, and you're trying to come up with a reason, any kind of reason, to keep on believing she's not human?
is it possible to imagine us without thinking we're all in cahoots? without thinking that we have some big plan? without thinking there's something inherently evil in us, and that the only place we belong, the only place you'll like us, the only place you want us to be, is in the ground?

If you say shit like “Palestinians should die” or “Gaza should get wiped off the map” on my blog I will block you just as fast as if you had said “Jews should die” or “Israel should get wiped off the map”. This blog believes strongly in the safety and mutual respect of both peoples, regardless of the actions of their governments. If you think differently, I hope you find empathy. In the meantime, fuck off.

Here's a list of organizations within Israel doing good work to document and resist the occupation and oppression of Palestinians. I highly recommend following them.
Standing Together
An organization of Palestinian and Jewish citizens of Israel that has been advocating for ceasefire and promotes a vision of Palestinian-Jewish coexistance.
Radical Bloc
A group that organizes weekly pro-ceasefire protests in Tel Aviv, even in the face of police harassment.
B'tselem
An organization that documents Israel's oppression of Palestinians, from the war in Gaza to settler violence and continued dispossession in the West Bank. "B'tselem" means "in the image" referencing the Jewish concept that every human is made in the image of God.
Zochrot
An organization whose main goal is educate the Israeli public about the Nakba, despite the lengths Israel has gone to hide it from view. "Zochrot" means "rememberers."
Breaking the Silence
An organization that collects testimonies of current and IDF soldiers of the things they witness and perpetrated.
This Is Not An Ulpan
A co-op language school for Hebrew and Arabic run by Palestinian and Jewish educators that also posts information about the situation from a radical perspective.
Mesarvot Network
An organization that supports young Israeli who want to refuse being draft into the IDF. "Mesarvot" means "refusers."
Parents' Circle
A peace organization comprised of family members of Israelis and Palestinians killed in the conflict.
