Eddie(and Richie)

After nearly thirty years Stan is done waiting for Richie and Eddie to come clean about their feelings for each other in front of everyone. Eddie is clearly mortified but Richie’s had so much to drink that he just decides to roll with it. Something he’s liable to be super embarrassed about later.

“The, uh, car, I think. Is the only place,” Richie says, biting down on the end of his straw and grinning. “I haven’t…that I’d want to, anyway.“ 

Stan rolls his eyes and sits back in his seat just Bev leans forward and folds her arms on the table. Ben looks passively polite. It’s a small booth, in a small bar, but the others manage to squeeze in around them.

“Richie, for the last time,” Eddie says, sliding into the booth next to Richie and setting a plate of fries down in the center of the table. “You can’t talk about your sex life with our friends because everyone knows the only person you’ve ever had sex with is me.“ 

Richie scowls at Eddie, but makes a show of clamping his mouth shut. Bev snorts, but doesn’t say anything either. It’s Mike, casually reaching across the table for a fry, who speaks up.

“I would pass on the car sex, Rich,” he tells him. “There’s no good way to do it.“ 

"There’s no room,” Bill agrees, before Richie’s managed to recover from Mike’s comment, before—it seems—Bill himself realizes what he’s said. He immediately grabs his beer and brings it to his lips. “I mean, from what I’ve heard.” He takes a swig and looks sideways at the bathroom doors, suddenly finding them very interesting.

I like to HC that he would learn to move past this defense mechanism had Eddie survived his ordeal though and that it would serve as a wake up call that he needs to confront the depths of his feelings and be genuine with Eddie
