It has been absolutely heartbreaking seeing the destruction the bush fires have brought to Australia.

I always wondered why penguins are black even though their habitat is all white snow. Apparently it’s because their feathers are evolved to help them camouflage while under water and not on land!!

1 in 8 bird species are threatened with global extinction. The rapid decline of the snowy owl is directly linked to climate change. With snowmelt and snow cover affecting the availability and distribution of prey. Thanks to @macaulaylibrary for the snowy owl audio calls!!

There is a group of lions in Botswana where the females have a genetic mutation that allows them to grow full manes and exhibit male like behavior. • A good reminder to never make assumptions on anyone regardless of appearance, gender identity or even species!! 🦁🧡

Climate change is real!! We are living through the 6th mass extinction event directly caused by human action. It’s time to try to mitigate the irreparable harm we are doing to the biodiversity on this planet!!

The name King Vulture is derived from Mayan legends, in which the bird was a king who served as a messenger between humans and the gods.👑

Over the weekend I visited the American Museum of Natural History and absolutely fell in love with their baby T.Rex model with its fluffy plumage.
I was blown away by their new exhibit “T Rex :The Ultimate Predator.” It was so cool seeing them depict the developmental stages of T.Rex’s with constant comparisons to modern day animals as a means of making them tangible and relatable. I think it’s so important to update our collective imagination of dinosaurs to be in stride with our growing scientific understanding of them.
I get incredibly frustrated when we hold on to outdated representations of dinos as Jurassic Park-esque reptiles instead of the bizarre lizard-ostriches they were. Dinosaurs are the ancestors of birds and it’s important that we shift our imagination towards feathery creatures. End of rant.

I am a proud father of 2 sugar gliders and have always admired how alien and Dr. Seuss- like their curly tails and squiggly gliding flaps are.

Here is a early fish design exploration I made for @thewcs for their new children’s exhibit at the New York Aquarium. We ended up decided that this style was a bit to abstracted so we ended up on a bit more of a realistic style.
But more unfortunately we ended up not even having any young California Sheephead fish illustrated in the exhibit at all.

While working in the Bronx Zoo, I absolutely fell in love with the charming Giant Elephant Shrew in the rodent house.
Fun Fact: Elephant shrews are not classified with true shrews, but are in fact more closely related to elephants than shrews.

Here is an early child design exploration I made for @thewcsfor their new children’s exhibit at the New York Aquarium. We ended up shifting gears towards a slightly more simplified and abstracted design for the children illustrations in the exhibit. But I have always been quite fond of this charm in this young scientist. 👨🏾‍🔬✏️📓.
