We were at PBR, and had an amazing time, as we often do, but we were talking about what a shame it is that more women aren't encouraged to do bronc riding or bull riding. I know Kaila Mussell was riding on the saddle bronc circuit for awhile, but in general you don't see it.

Both styles are desperately helped by being light and short! One of the riders last night was shorter than me, and most of the champions were only two inches or so above me. It gives you a lower center of gravity which means it's harder for you to get bucked.

My wife maintains that in the lesbian rodeo, bareback bronc or bull riding would be a femme event because it involves, and I quote, "Being fucking crazy." While bulldogging would be a butch event because it involves, "Falling off a horse and wrasslin a critter"

I do not even for one second believe that the only reason she won't let him help is because she wants to do it herself. Not even one. I mean, she has to be getting real about this, right? It's been six years, and she hasn't seen anyone. I actually think this is a good reflection on the nature of grief broadly but also the particular pain of when someone's body is missing, and no one really knows what happened to them. You know they're dead. You KNOW they're dead. But there's a part of you that can't help but hope, but wonder, for a miracle, any they just...come back someday. Even if you know they are never ever coming back.

It's one thing to know something intellectually, it's another thing to know it emotionally.

I do not necessarily think this is the emotionally healthiest thing anyone has ever done, but I guess I understand it, if the people you care about most in the world have gone into the woods, and there's nothing you can do but live in the absolute vain hope that they are around here somewhere, and not lost forever.

Okay so at first I was thinking: GAY GINKO CONFIRMED. But no I don't think that's what's going on here, much as I would absolutely love that. I think, what i took for Ginko being young, Ginko being a woman? Maybe? So, trans Ginko confirmed?

Sitting here thinking about it, it's not IMPOSSIBLE, but do I think it's LIKELY in this kind of story, or is it that I made a fuckup elsewhere?

I think I just assumed the person who looked like Ginko was in fact GInko, but I think I'm wrong. Which means, if we're going back in time, that Yoki has to be Ginko. I have had this completely wrong from the jump. So Ginko has no family, really, other than possibly Nui and I still think that's going to fuck up somehow.

Also, also, if Yoki is Ginko, and part of escaping from the Tokoyami is coming up with a name for yourself, that must be how it happened. So, he has this tragic story of his mother, and living with Nui and caring about her, but it's okay because he doesn't remember any of it! I guess?

Oh okay, I guess...well actually no, this doesn't make any sense. PLEASE DO NOT EXPLAIN THIS TO ME I AM REALIZING THAT I TOO AM LOST IN THE MUSHI WOODS. Dun dun DUNNNNN. So unless I've missed my guess, which is totally possible, Yoki is going to get eaten up by the Tokoyami or something like that. So maybe that's the impetus that gets Ginko (Ginko!!!) off his butt and out to help people, because he remembers this kid that he cared about, and he liked, and that got into a trouble with mushi he couldn't get out of.

Obviously I can be very very wrong about this, but it would make a certain amount of sense to the story.

I guess my question is, why break them up? If it's apparently no big deal? I mean, I know GInko just likes to annoy mushi as something to do, and I guess this is just that, but.

And so now they're palling around together in the forest, learning about mushrooms, and Ginko seems to really like this kid, so I ahve to wonder: What makes him leave? Is it horrors beyond my comprehension, or does he just grow up to go do other things with mushi, or? Because they seem to be enjoying each other's company, and neither of them have anyone else, so why not just stay together?
