It still kinda baffles me when I see people talking about how evil Aziraphale was for abandoning Crowley and leaving him all alone on Earth. Because did we watch the same show?
Aziraphale loves Crowley, it was not his wish for things to turn out this way. But Aziraphale also has always believed in good and has tried to do as much good as he could. That angel has always put others over his own happiness. If that wasn't the case he would've run to Alpha Centauri with Crowley in the 1st season right as Crowley mentioned it under that bandstand. But he didn't. Crowley was the one to suggest the idea of postponing the Armageddon, Aziraphale was the one who never gave up on that idea. He wasn't ready to just give up on trying to save people. He was also the one who tried to shoot Adam and the one who forced Crowley to do something even though Satan was on his way. Where Crowley felt like nothing could be done, Aziraphale knew there were options left.
So of course he decided to go and try to fix heaven. Aziraphale never gives up, he tries and tries to find solutions. He's going to try to make heaven truly good too, because that's what he does. He never gives up. He wanted Crowley to come with him as it would erase the conflict between them, the good old "you're a demon, I'm an angel". Because he saw it as an easy way to be together. And because he needs him. Crowley had every right to refuse and I still think he was in the right for refusing, absolutely. Which doesn't change the fact that Aziraphale was really excited for that idea and it broke his heart when Crowley said no.
Other thing is, Crowley was left alone on Earth being just as lonely as he used to be and actually even more because this time Aziraphale is not around. Not even to stop him from killing Job's children, not even to shield him from rain. But it's not like Aziraphale went to heaven to have a party with his good old friends.
Aziraphale was exactly as lonely as Crowley was. He avoided talking to Gabriel, Uriel, Michael and others. He wanted nothing else than to stay on Earth and talk to them as little as he could because he was afraid of them and he didn't think of them as of good angels. He's always preferred Crowley's presence over theirs. Which means he's preferred a literal demon over his fellow angels.
Which leaves him exactly as lonely as Crowley now that they're separated. They both have no one to turn to, no one to seek help from. Aziraphale can't just take his phone and call Crowley and vice versa. They both lost something precious to them. They lost each other. Aziraphale is exactly as abandoned as Crowley is. He did not just do it for fun, he sacrificed his and Crowley's happiness.

Resources For Writing Deaf, Mute, or Blind Characters
Despite the fact that I am not deaf, mute, or blind myself, one of the most common questions I receive is how to portray characters with these disabilities in fiction.
As such, I’ve compiled the resources I’ve accumulated (from real life deaf, mute, or blind people) into a handy masterlist.
Deaf Characters:

An Absolute Write thread on the depiction of blind characters, with lots of different viewpoints and some great tips.
And finally, this short, handy masterpost of resources for writing blind characters.

I love how whenever Aziraphale and Crowley are together, Crowley is always on Aziraphale's left, even before the beginning. The only time it's inverted is in the Bentley

when writing an impoverished (usa) area in your story, sometimes it's like "Oh there is one grocery store and a McDonalds but we get by" and sometimes it's like "there isn't even a store anymore, only an independently owned drive thru with a tinny speaker system across the street from a blood bank" which, in fiction, is actually called a dystopia

TIL the first known case of “dying from laughing” involved the greek man called Chrysippus, who, after giving figs to his donkey, cried out “Now give the donkey a drink of pure wine to wash down the figs”, had a fit of laughter afterwards and died.

The Outbursts of Everett True was a comic strip that ran in papers from 1905 to 1927, wherein the aforementioned Everett True regularly beat the everliving shit out of rude people as a warning to anyone else who might consider being rude. Men have not only been taking up too much room on public transport for about as long as public transport has existed, but the people around them have been irritated about it for at least a hundred years. The next time someone tries to claim that manspreading is a false phenomenon, please direct them to this strip so that Everett True can correct their misconceptions with an umbrella upside the head.

Every day I’m nitpickin’
It irks me to no end that J.K. Rowling went into details about how Ron was irascible when he was “hungry” during the Horcrux Hunt (hello yes he got freaking Splinched and lost about a liter of blood but off I go I guess) and never touched upon Harry and Hermione’s own moods more.
Because seriously, Hermione too is used to three delicious meals a day. Hermione lived in a cosy home with a cosy life and apparently never had to cook if her mushrooms are anything to go by.
(I like to think that Hermione never thought about learning household spells for the Horcrux Hunt because she considers that to be a waste of time (and considers herself “above” such things, because she’s “the brightest witch of her age”, she has no time for cooking, that’s ridiculous), and so used Incendio to cook and such, which is why her food turned out awful 90% of the time. It could be both the stereotype of the “brainy girl can’t cook” and a subtle way to foreshadow the “don’t underestimate the housewife” moment Molly gets.)
Harry had to cook for the Dursleys sometimes so he’d be able to whip up some sort of grilled or fried stuff, and Ron has helped his Mum numerous times in the kitchen, he could have done a few things (even if his mangled arm would have gotten in the way… that would’ve been a smart thing, that, emphasizing the fact that RON ALMOST DIED, HEY I WONDER IF THAT IS ONE OF THE REASONS HE’S FEELING UNWELL???)
But nooooo, instead Hermione doesn’t know one thing for once, but instead of doing something better, the boys are useless lumps who can’t do a thing when they don’t have their life-instructor around.
(It could have been awesome to see Ron teach Hermione household spells as well since he’s seen them performed countless times.)
(But that would have meant making Ron better at something in comparison to Hermione or Harry, and for Joanne “Ron had to make himself worthy of Hermione” Rowling, that’s plainly unthinkable, innit?)

Hermione Granger is high-key one of the most terrifying characters in the series. Like this girl has the intelligence and ravenous thirst for knowledge of a ravenclaw, the ruthless, cunning ambition of the most notorious Slytherins, the Very Gryffindor™️ mindset that her way is the right way, and the sheer balls to go headlong into a hopeless situation. I love her, but she is SO not “the goody two shoes.”

The HP Epilogue, Amatonormativity, and Ron and Harry’s Friendship
Now, I’m not someone who has strong objections to the Harry Potter epilogue. I am 100% at home to One Big Happy Weasley Family. I’m even… let’s say fascinated… by the names that Harry and Ginny gave their children. I don’t necessarily agree with their choices, but I’m interested in what those choices tell us about their characters. (Actually Harry’s character, honestly. I don’t think Ginny has any responsibility for Albus Severus beyond not talking him out of it.) No, there are only a couple of things that really bother me about the epilogue. One of them is some of the business about Teddy—that’s for another essay. The other one is this exchange (DH p. 755):

Harry and Hermione’s friendship
Okay, so there’s a big post going around about how we see a lot of Ron and Hermione having fun without Harry, but none of Harry and Hermione having fun without Ron. I’ve been thinking about this a lot, and while I agree with the thesis–that Ron and Hermione are a much better couple than Harry and Hermione–I feel like it’s an unfair comparison: Harry is typically not with Ron and Hermione because he’s just off doing something else, whereas Ron is away from Harry and Hermione because they’ve had a falling out, so Harry and Hermione are otherwise inclined to be morose. It certainly says something about the trio that the only time Harry and Hermione spend long stretches without Ron is when Ron and Harry are fighting, but the emphasis on Harry and Hermione being miserable about Ron really sells Harry and Hermione’s dynamic short.
At any rate, there are instances of Harry and Hermione… not exactly having fun together, but definitely having a good time together.
When Harry and Hermione are together without Ron, they’re happy when they’re on a mission. Harry learning accio is a really good Harry and Hermione dynamic scene, as is the “plan a heist” sequence before they went to Godric’s Hollow. The tone of Harry’s narrative shifts at these times, from I am suffering so much from the lack of Ron to Okay, but let me tell you about our cunning plan.
It isn’t that Harry and Hermione don’t enjoy each other, exactly, it’s just that they’re both so… uptight? Mission-focused? Neither one of them is particularly good at just, slacking off and having a good time. When they have something they want to accomplish together, they’re actually pretty happy.
Especially if it involves planning a heist. Especially if the heist can involve Polyjuice potion.
Now, take that understanding of their dynamic, and imagine them at a place in their lives where, instead of a strategy for taking on a f***ing dragon or avoiding capture by death eaters, they’re planning and implementing a surprise birthday party for Ron, or an enormous Potter-Granger-Weasley family vacation, or god help us a bake sale for the kids’ primary school. (I don’t know how Polyjuice potion would help with any of these, but they will find a way.)
Harry and Hermione don’t have fun together because neither one of them is much good at having fun, not because they don’t like each other. This makes them a terrible couple, mind. But they definitely have a friendship of their own, not just through Ron.
