(text description in ALT and below the cut)
Based on some rumblings I heard, I ended up quickly throwing together a fun little WIP bingo sheet! I'll admit I largely wrote the prompts for writing, but I think a good number of them should also apply to art!
Ultimately, the goal is to have fun, and finish whatever WIPs you can (without burning yourself out or having a bad time). If you needed a sign to pick up that project you've been putting off, the time is now!
3x4 Bingo square titled "Finish your fucking fics february"
the top three across left to right read "Update your oldest WIP", "Finish a WIP that's been buried deep in your drafts", and "Finish a WIP that you haven't posted yet"
the second row reads "Finish a recent WIP", "Finish a WIP you're scared of" and "Finish a WIP that's been haunting you"
the third row reads "Update a partially posted WIP", "Finish any WIP/Free Space", and "Finish the next WIP in a series you've been avoiding"
the last row reads "Update your newest WIP", "Finish a WIP that's been ignored for at least 6 months", and "Finish the next chapter for a fic you've been meaning to for months"

2023 (from provisional data) was UK's second hottest year on record
Provisional data from the Met Office shows that 2023 was the UK's second hottest year on record, only an average of 0.06C cooler than 2022 which is the current hottest year.
For Northern Ireland and Wales, 2023 was the hottest year on record.
In 2023, the UK had the hottest June and September on record. Average rainfall was up by 11%.
Current predictions are that 2024 will be hotter still with the El Nino event likely to continue at least through the first have of the year and it is expected that the Copernicus Climate Change Service will announce that 2023 was the hottest year globally since records began.
2024 may see the temperatures breaching the 1.5C warming threshold which the 2015 Paris agreement aimed to limit warming to.

Flooding and Climate change
Increased temperatures do not necessarily make people think of wetter weather, but we hear about record breaking flooding more and more frequently. Extreme weather of all types is more likely due to climate change.
The air can hold more water vapour at warmer temperatures (about 7% more per degree Celsius temperature increase). If more water is held in the air before it starts falling as rain, leading to more rain over a short space of time in a small area, leading to flooding.
(Droughts can also increase flooding. Very dry ground does not absorb water as efficiently as when it is slightly slightly damp. This means more rain runs off rather than being absorbed by the ground and increases the water in low-lying areas.)

Tip to reduce climate footprint
Delete old emails
Most emails are stored on servers which are powered all the time. Although emails are not a large files, they add up. Many of us are guilty of keeping emails we have no intention of ever looking at again (or not looking at them in the first place). Deleting them means there is that much less electricity needed to power servers and a little less fossil fuels which will be burnt.

Climate Overview - UK
Tumblr media
(https://showyourstripes.info/l/europe/unitedkingdom/all)
(Largely a summary of BBC new article: https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/58160547)
UK climate target progress (as of November 2023)
Net zero: to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emission to net zero (not emitting more GHGs than the country removes from the atmosphere) by 2050. Not on track.
Power generation: Pledged all UK electricity would come from low carbon sources (wind, solar, nuclear, hydroelectric, etc.) by 2035. Not on track. Needs clearer planning and faster action to meet goals.
Heating and Buildings: Aim to instal 600,000 electric heat pumps by 2028 replacing gas boilers. Off track. 70,000 were installed in 2022. About 17% of UK GHG emissions come from buildings, largely due to heating. UK houses are (on average) among the least energy-efficient in Europe. Insulation is one of the easiest ways to reduce the need for heating.
Transportation (not including aviation and shipping): Largest emitting sector with just under 25% of UK emissions in 2022. Delayed ban on sale of new petrol and diesel cars (from 2030 to 2035). New target of 80% of car manufacturer sales to be zero emissions by 2030. Nearly 17% of new car sales in 2022 were battery powered. Public charging points may not keep up with demand without significant investment. By 2040, the government aims to remove all diesel-only trains. There is no clear plan of how this will happen. There has not been significant progress to switching to lower emission travel modes (public transport, cycling, etc.).
Flights: Aims from net zero by 2050 but the technology relied on is currently not as advanced as needed. Currently makes up about 7% of emissions in the UK. Not on track.
Shipping: About 3% of UK emissions. Not clear plan for decarbonisation announced yet.
Food: About 11% of emissions come from agriculture and land use. The strategy released in 2022 was criticised for not being large scale enough or fast enough. Farmers can apply for grants to support environmentally friendly endeavours. UK meat consumption fell 17% from 2009 to 2019 but more could be done to encourage more sustainable options.
Trees: Trees (and other plants) remove CO2 from the atmosphere. Only 13% of the UK is forest (lowest in Europe). Aim to plant 30,000 hectares (300 km square) of trees a year by 2025. Since 2001, there have not been more than 15,000 hectares planted per year. Not on target (and very hard or impossible to manage it now).
Peatlands: These store CO2 very efficiently. About 20% of UK peatlands hare in a 'near-natural' state. 5% of emission are from damaged peatlands. If they are restored, they could absorb CO2. Government aims for 29,000 hectares to be restored a year by 2025 but currently are managing less than half this. Not on track.
Hydrogen: Has low carbon emissions and could be extremely important for energy security in the future. By 2030, government wants 10GW capacity from hydrogen. Delays in decisions on the role of hydrogen means investment is not happening. Hydrogen is not currently a large industry and needs this investment to grow.
Carbon capture and storage: Emerging and expensive technology. Aiming to capture 20 to 30 million tonnes of CO2 a year by 2030. Still needs significant investment and development to be viable but vital to reach net zero.
Industry: Around 14% of emissions. Aim to cut by 2/3rds by 2035. Maybe result in companies moving abroad rather than emitting less.

Writing Prompt 415
X forced a smile and wet a cloth.  They spoke gently to Y as they wiped away the ashes on their face.  All the while, Y refused to release their death-grip on the half destroyed letter.

Writing Prompt 414
“Hi,” X said, a little shyly.
“Hello,” Y said, “it has been a while since we saw each other, hasn’t it?”  X nodded.  “Are you ready for this?”
“Never am but it hasn’t stopped us yet.”

Writing Prompt 413
“Oh,” X’s voice was more a gasp than a word.  Y turned and lunged towards them, pressing hands over the bleeding wound.  “I don’t…” their words trailed off.  Y looked at their face.  They looked more confused than hurt.

Writing Prompt 412
“That did not go as I hoped.”
“Really? Are you sure?”  X wiped dust off their face.  “I thought that was how all your plans go.”
Y grinned. “It’s how they go, not how I want them to go.”

“You still need me.” X said.
“I don’t.”  Y was already turning away.
“Are you sure?”  X held something up and Y turned and froze.

Help me find a story?
A while ago I read a story online about a planet which was almost tidally locked but not quite.  I don’t know if it was a forgotten colony world of humans or an alien world but there was a first contact situation of someone from that world telling their story.  It was written as an interview I think.
The people lived on the thin strip of land which was habitable between the area which was in direct sunlight and too hot to live in, and the area which was facing away from the light and covered in glaciers.  Because the planet was rotating slowly, the people were always migrating. They might get a few years in one place before it became too hot to grow crops and they had to move on.  There were people who would go ahead and prepare land for farms in ice, which was a dangerous job.  And there were people who would scavenge for what had been left behind when people had to move on, which was often looked down upon as a job.
I don’t know if it was originally on tumblr, reddit, or somewhere else but I really want to find it again.  Thanks
