Self Care I Like To Practice
- Cleaning up is one of the main things I practice to feel a lot better in myself & my body. This can range from a number of things like showering, taking a bath, cleaning my room, or even cleaning something small, like my desk.
- I have a weighted blanket. I love to use it because it makes me feel more connected with myself in a way, it’s hard to explain this. But, normal blankets work just as well. Something else you can do with this, but is optional, is to get into comfy clothes or pjs.
- I eat some snacks. This could be a salad, some chocolate… anything. Any food you want you should eat.
- Adding on to my last tip, I like to have a hot drink. Usually I drink a cup of black tea but you could even just heat up some milk if you want to. Have any hot drink you’d like.
- Stimming. Stimming is short for stimulating, and it is a great way of regulating emotions. This is mostly done by autistic people, like myself, as we HAVE to stim, but everyone stims. This could be as simple as bouncing your foot against the ground, or using fidget toys. Do whatever you need to do to regulate.
- I like plushies so I like to snuggle up with some of those. This can also be a way of stimming. (By squishing, pulling etc.) I also love weighted plushies because they have the same deep pressure as a hug. Another thing you could use in place of this is cuddling up with your pet if you have one.
- I like to game. Usually if I’m overwhelmed, I play a more relaxing game like Stardew Valley. But currently I’m hyper fixated on Red Dead Redemption II. Engaging in hyper fixations/interests is another great way of regulating for anyone.
- I also enjoy watching movies/tv shows or even just YouTube as a form of self care. It’s a way to unwind. You can also read, listen to an audiobook or a podcast.
