One Month Until Winter Warm-Up Weekend!

Winter officially began in the Northern Hemisphere a few days ago, and we'll be celebrating it (or coping with it, depending on how you feel about Winter) in one month's time during the 2024 Winter Warm-Up Weekend!

I never owned a GameCube so I was not able to play AWL so far. I am SO EXCITED now and can't wait to finally experience it! Especially because it shares characters with Harvest Moon DS, which was my first HM game. I can't tell you how happy I am to be able to marry Muffy or Nami in a same sex marriage! I've watched many trailor reactions on YouTube and everyone's excitement warms my heart so much. It's so nice to see all the love that exists for this game.

I never liked the original AWL. It felt like an empty game dependent on atmosphere. Coupled with having no nostalgia for it, I was initially disappointed that it was getting the remake treatment and not DS. However the remake seems to be fixing my gripes with it so I'm cautiously optimistic. I love how expressive the character models are now too.

I'm excited about the new remake but I'm afraid to try it. I never got through the first year of the original because I couldn't stand how slow the character is and how it takes all day trying to find everyone so i can make friends. Also dreading how certain animals work (the useless goat, needing to have both bulls and cows, and needing the cows to get pregnant to keep producing) i just didn't want to continue.

At least the trailer shows you moving a little faster and the lighting is brighter so i won't get lost trying to find my house at night. And the Marlin/Matthew and Gustava have had major design improvements (imo) so they don't look 30+ anymore.

I swear the moment I saw the remake (I was watching the Nintendo Direct LIVE) I had to muffle my scream to avoid waking up the whole neighborhood. Another Wonderful Life was my first ever Harvest Moon and I cannot wait to return to the valley as an adult now.

(Also, because of the possibilities of new marriage candidates, I have a crackhead theory that I made yesterday that Daryl might become one. If I'm right, I will die laughing)

I like the AWL redesigns for the remake. I always felt like AnWL was an afterthought, which is why the bachelors were all kind of odd. I appreciate that they have unique appearances, but Marlin, for instance, was always just ugly to me. His makeover actually makes him more universally appealing, though I do wish they'd kept his hair curly.

ohhhh i havent seen those screenshots you just posted before!! while i too am not that much of a fan of the bachelor redesigns i am still super excited and happy. i really love how colorful the game looks lol. are there any changes youd actually love to see in the remake btw? i just replayed another wonderful life and i hope theyve got a lot more dialogue in the new one because it does get a little bit jarring seeing the same lines every chapter

The changes I'm hoping for are mostly gameplay ones. AWL has great vibes and characters but I always felt like I was running out of things to do WELL before the ending. They've already confirmed more events, shown what appears to be more fleshed out festivals, and a request board that will hopefully keep me more busy this time, so I'm pretty optimistic about the remake overall. I remember it being kind of a pain to ship non-dairy stuff too, so I hope they change that.

I also agree about the colors. This shot in particular is just so tasty.

I've always had a hard time choosing a different spouse on a separate playthrough in Harvest Moon games. I always feel like I'm cheating on my spouse from the other save. I recently started a new save file on RF5 and I couldn't bring myself to pick anyone but Reinhard again!!

When i found out the Ellen in Mineral Town is the same Ellen in the first harvest moon game, i always wonder how Ellen would feel the moment she sees Pete visiting her everyday in Harvest Moon 64 or Friends of Mineral Town. Imagine Ellen seeing Pete walking through her door and reminiscing a certain farmer running a farm and having an unrequited love towards him.

When I was younger my mom got me AnWL, and I married Rock because he was cute. The first week into the marriage, I thought he cheated on me with Lumina. (because of the first heart cutscene, my little brain thought it made sense)

I looked up tutorials on how to divorce in the game. I know this definitely wasn’t in the game, but it still makes me hate him.

i was disappointed that linh didn't wear an ao dai (traditional vietnamese attire)for the wedding. We get to see Iori in his traditional wedding attire. I wish we get see marriage candidate wearing their traditional attire based on their culture for their wedding.

I will never forgive how Lumina was drastically changed from A(An)WL to DS(Cute). In A(An)WL, she was such an interesting character, trying to find out her own identity when she is constantly reminded of her late mother. DS(Cute) Completely changed her into a spoiled brat and I will die mad about it.

I would like the next story of seasons reboot to be harvest moon grand bazaar. It was the first harvest moon game I played and it helped me fall in love with the series. I would like to see what it would like updated to a more modern system.

When playing my first HM game, Magical Melody, my English wasn't the best. I must have clicked past the information about refilling the watering can without understanding because it took me the whole season of spring to realize my watering can was empty. Looking back it feels like an obvious thing to understand, with crops dying and all, but oh well.

I’ve seen many posts like this and a lot of people say this, but we should bring back rival marriages (and rival children). I loved that aspect in ToT and AP, but something I would love even more is Rival Marriages and kids in A Wonderful Life. The game is already so life like, that it wouldnt be weird to set up your friends with the bachelorettes/ bachelors you didn’t marry…. Aaaand I would really like to see Muffy find love for once.
