Hello! I wrote a book and I think y'all will like it. It's for fans of Good Omens, Hannibal, Angels Before Man, and all the queer people who deserve financial compensation from the catholic church.
I present to you:
FIRST CREATION, a high heat queer horror novella with a trans angel MC and a queer demon LI!
FIRST CREATION is a love letter to fallen angels, to finding your place in the world, to connecting to religion in a way that works for you. To touch and peaches, and surviving horrible things, to finding a place to be holy if God won't give it to you. (it's also nasty, and about cannibalism and shame and guilt, too)
It's a 22k word (98 page) novella that you can read in one (or two, or three) sittings.
You can find it on Amazon and itch.io here to read an actual synopsis and look at reviews. You can also find content warnings at the bottom of my website: (I definitely encourage you to read them before you buy!)
@evilwriter37 No wait, reblog this version instead, I rounded it up to a 100.
If httyd was a horror them, or somewhere under that umbrella, what themes could they delve in?
I can’t say I actually know much about the horror genre despite being both a fan of Teen Wolf and Supernatural. I have started dipping my toes into writing horror for anthologies though!
Hm… Fear of night/of the dark maybe? Night is so expansive when there’s no light pollution and you’re just a little village sequestered in the sea with dragons lurking about the edges, waiting for someone to wander out.
Exploring humanity vs monstrosity would be interesting in HTTYD I think. I feel like they kind of already did that with Viggo and dragons. Like, we’re shown a man that is nothing short of a monster, hunting and killing dragons that are gentle creatures. (Thinking of the Buffalord.) So like, the capability of monstrosity in each one of us, of having darkness and a hidden beast.
I don’t think I have anything else, but this is such a cool ask. Thank you, anon! This was great to answer at the end of a rough day!
I hope you don't mind an entire list. It's based on all the tropes/things that I've seen in movies, shows and games that I think would also (probably) fit a horror version of Httyd (a trope for better or for worse) or the franchise itself has already provided with us.
A haunting
A structure that doesn't make any sense
Alien horror (because a threat from outer space doesn't care if it's in ancient Scandinavia or not)
Anniversary of an event
Another world mirroring theirs
Arctic horror
Ask (for a sign) and ye shall receive
Betrayal
Bloodfest
Blood on snow
Birth (sometimes to an old god)
Body horror
Bullying
Bullying with deadly consequences (often paired with a revenge plot)
Cabin fever
Captivity
Cannibalism
Curses
Cursed ancient ruins
Cursed artifacts
“Child was born evil” (They aren't) (*)
“Child was born evil” (They are) (*)
Dark side
Deteriorating morals
Devastating winter
"Don't look behind you" (there's nothing there)
"Don't look behind you" (there's something there)
Dragons
Eldritch-like horror
Eldritch-ish Red Death
Experiments
Experiment gone wrong (seems like a Hiccup and Viggo thing)
Fear of the dark (like you mentioned!)
General disrespect to x = death
General disrespect in x = death
Ghosts
Good twin/evil twin
Gore
Greed is the downfall of man
Humanity is doomed
Humanity was doomed from the start
"I'll be right back!" = death
Injury leads to an evil side the person isn't aware of. (very unfortunate this one)
"It was all a dream... or WAS IT?!"
"Let's split up!" = death
Lycanwing
Mental illness (very unfortunate this one, but still a trope that's commonly use to this day)
Mental illness (except it's not, the monsters are real)
Midnight sun
Mind control
Monster movie/creature feature
Monster is an offshoot of humanity
Motherhood
No body = not dead
Old gods
One traumatic night that haunts the protag
One traumatic night that drives the plot years later
Origins of evil
parallels
Parasites
Plague
Polar night
Possession (sometimes by an old god)
Prejudice breeds hatred, hatred breeds evil
Primordial forces
Religion/cult (think Midsommar) (*)
Religion is fake, but the nuts are not (*)
Religion “is fake,” oh no wait oops sorry ancient gods are real and very angry
Returning home after a long time away
Revenge horror/porn
Sacrifice the maiden
Sacrifice the outcast
Survival was never possible
Survival was only a dream/protag never escaped
Taunting the supernatural force and then getting got by the supernatural force the character was taunting
The endless x (often a hallway or stairs)
The friend is not actually a friend
The killer always comes back (very slasher specific)
The loop
The outcast
The outcast is the only one who survives
The outcast’s only friend is the only one spared
The sinful die first (very popular in the 80s) (*)
The timeloop
The woods
The x dies (it's often babies and dogs specifically)
There are always bigger fish
There's darkness in all of us/there's a monster in all of us (like you mentioned!)
They aren't what you think they are
"They mostly come out at night. Mostly."
Torture porn
Scandinavian folk tale horror
Sea monsters
Secluded small village horror
Shady business men
Super hybrid (usually a mix of the two baddest predators around)
Unleasing something evil
What is the true monster? Who is the true monster?
You die in x, you die in real life (famous quote: "you die in the game, you die in real life!")
Zombie plague
*Usually either comes from a non-religious perspective or a Christian perspective.
Those are all the tropes I think could be put into Httyd if it were a horror franchise, whether some of them are incredibly dated or not. And these are all without thinking of a modern AU, the post popular Httyd AU.

hiccup being passed around like a fucking hackeysack from bounty hunter to bounty hunter in midnight scrum was INSANE? getting knocked unconscious three separate times with 1) a hit to the head 2) a tranquilizer and 3) a punch to the stomach, being roughly dragged around by metal chains wrapped around his neck, almost falling off a cliff and then losing his metal leg i’m sorry but what in the fresh hell this episode should just be dubbed hiccup and the terrible, horrible, no good, very bad day
Summary: Viggo makes the mistake of touching Hiccup without his consent while riding Toothless in Shell Shocked Part 2. Guess who made the last mistake of his life?
Fandom: How To Train Your Dragon
Pairing: Viggo/Hiccup, Hiccup & Toothless
Word Count: 412
Rating: Mature
Warnings: Noncon touching/sexual assault, major character death, animal/dragon attack

Notes: There are probable influences from fandom and whatnot in this story. Written for Bad Things Happen Bingo @badthingshappenbingo for the space “Taking You with Me”. Takes place in Race to the Edge, Shell Shocked Part 2.

Summary: Written for the Language of Flowers Bingo. Set during Httyd 2. Hiccup's fighting spirit catches Drago's attention in a way she wishes it hadn't.
Warning: Graphic depictions of violence, broken bones, lady whump, nudity, morally apprehensive implications
Author's Notes: I actually think Drago's perspective on Hiccup is interesting. In the movie, Drago is clearly threatened by Hiccup from the moment he hears about him. Even when he sees that he's a runt, Drago still seeks to squash this threat by any means necessary, prove that he's the superior Dragon Master. There can only be one, after all.
But you know, clearly I thought "let's change sexes" around midnight and here we go. I didn't even mean to write it.
Summary: Written for Bad Things Happen Bingo, The Butcher Bingo, Eclipsing Bingo. Set in a Modern AU/Horse Riding AU.
Despite Stoick’s assurances that he wasn’t sending his son away, Hiccup can’t help but feel like he’s lying through his teeth. He packed his son’s stuff, put him on a boat and then sent him away along with his mother. Claiming that her sanctuary for dragons would be a much more suitable place for him as he works through the trauma of the past year.
Warnings: Medical trauma, Medical inaccuracies, Hospitalization
Rating: Mature
Words: 2 765
Prompt: Damaged Wing(s) (Bad Things Happen Bingo), Hating What You Loved Before (The Butcher Bingo), Dragged Along The Ground (Eclipsing Bingo)
Fandom: How to Train Your Dragon
Characters: Hiccup, Valka, Toothless
Pairing: Stalka
Author's Note: I've been wanting to write about Hiccup riding horses in a Modern AU, but never really found the right incentive until today. It's about as fun as I imagined it to be. I'll write a non-whump one-shot about it someday, too. :)
This is just an idea right now. I don’t know when it would be or what it would be, but it feels like there are enough whump-enjoyers in the HTTYD fandom to at least run a small event. So, interest check!
