So hey, I’m taking a break from writing to tell you that poor people having nice things does not in any way devalue the nice things that you have and, in fact, improves your bargaining position for acquiring even nicer things for yourself! Who’d’ve thunk, right?
Free higher education, for example. Lots of people get mad about that. Why should poor people get to go to college or university for free when you paid through the nose for it? My dude, I’m sorry that happened to you. If poor people had been able to get access to quality higher education when you were angling to get into your prestigious college of choice, you would have been able to turn to that college and say:
“Hey! Why the fuck are you charging me through the nose to attend your college when I could get an equivalent education at this free college for nothing? What the hell!”
And your prestigious college would have then had to either lower their fees or significantly up their game in terms of the education they could provide for you, because if they didn’t, you’d just go to the free college, right? Of course you would. You're not stupid!
And this works the same with literally everything! The more things that poor people are able to access for low cost or for free, the better your position is for demanding higher quality and/or lower costs for the things you pay for!
You can turn to your landlord and say, “Hey! Paul! You piece of shit! Why am I paying so much to live in this dump that you barely maintain even though it’s explicitly in the contract we both signed that you’re required to do so when I could move into social housing and live in a really nice place for half of what I’m paying you!?”
You can turn to your employer and say, “Hey! Boss! Fuck you! Why the fuck am I still here working my ass off and letting you profit from my considerable skills and experience when I could go to fucking McDonalds or some other so-called ‘unskilled’ job and get paid a decent wage to do something much easier!?”
You can turn to your internet provider and say, “Hey, I know you’re just a call centre agent and it’s literally not your fault so I’m not going to get mad and swear at you, but I’d like to know why I’m using your company’s service and paying a premium for it when there’s literally utility broadband, paid for by my taxes, that I could be using right now for nothing. It’s at least as good as this service that I’m paying for and if this provider doesn’t start doing better, I’m going to close my account. Thanks!”
Literally everything, man! The more things that poor people are able to access as a matter of course, as a basic standard of living, the better the things you pay for will be forced to be in order to compete with them. I mean shit, if things like food and hygiene products and other very basic necessities were provided for free, the quality of the products that corporations want you to pay for would have to considerably outstrip the quality of the freely-provided items in order to convince people to buy them! There’s literally no downside (unless you’re a billionaire CEO who suddenly has to pull his finger out and stop trying to profit by way of a race to the bottom and actually run his corporation properly to keep bringing in money)!
If you’re mad that someone else gets to have something nice when you had to pay for that nice thing, you’re mad at the wrong person!

i'm sure you've seen thousands of these at this point. sorry for another.
i am living with immediate family after homelessness last year. i left because of abuse.
my father is abusing to both me and my mom. he has us in a chokehold because of financial abuse and taking all the money, accts jn his name only etc
i've urged my mom to get a divorce or leave, but she told me "i have no options; i'd be in a dv shelter like you."
SO: i am not looking for money as much as advice. i'm on disability and her work is sporadic, so together we are way below poverty line i think. what can we do? what options do wee have? what people can we call to help us get out?
there's only so much more of his little shitty things like insisting i do not eat (again... i'm on disability) and her being unable because he's an explosive violent asshole
spread, add advice. please.

viewing queer identities as “this is the label that makes me happy and feels most accurate now” rather than “this is who I am, was, and always will be” will definitely take the pressure off, friends. changing your mind is proof that you have one.

The people who tried to put you down were projecting their own insecurities that they're not good enough at something. It had NOTHING to do with you, remember that. And write!!!
“You’re Not a Good Writer.”
I once received a DM comprised of just that sentence. Nothing else. No constructive criticism or any reason as to why this person clearly agreed with my own view of myself.
For someone who has never told anyone in their real life that they write anything, reading something like this from an anonymous user only solidified in my mind the fact that this person was right.
I’m not a good writer.
After an embarrassing amount of minutes passed, in which I thought about deleting every story I ever posted, I decided to delete the message instead. Unfortunately, that didn’t mean I could delete the feelings it caused or change the fact that I’m not a good writer.
Two weeks went by and I didn’t write anything, let alone post. Then I received a comment on a story I had posted three years prior, one I’d written after a death in our family. The comment read, “Thank you for sharing this heartfelt story. I really needed this. I just lost my mom and this really got me today.”
I stopped thinking about being a good writer after that. I thought instead, “what if I had deleted my stories and that one person three years later hadn’t read it that day?”
Here’s what I realized: no one is a good writer.
Good means to be approved of, but stories aren’t created from approval. They’re built from life experiences, feelings, and emotions Therefore, the impact of anyone’s story isn’t good or bad. It’s a million other things.
Heartfelt.
Sad.
Funny.
Inspiring.
Romantic.
So to all the story writers out there, hold your head up, write what is in your heart, and never doubt that there isn’t at least one person out there that needs to read your story.
So, no.
We’re not good writers, but why would we want to be?

I know that it seems as though things cooled down in Palestine after the ceasefire, but they haven't. Sheikh Jarrah is now under blockade, no one from outside of the neighbourhood goes in or out smoothly, and sometimes Palestinian residents resort to sneaking in. The court order to forcefully expel Palestinians to replace them with settlers is still awaiting.
Silwan, also in East Jerusalem, has been facing severe colonial violence and segregation and is awaiting the same faith as Sheikh Jarrah, where the residents of 6 neighbourhoods out of 12 are going to be displaced and expelled by Israeli authorities and U.S. settler organizations.
Facebook and Instagram are deliberately censoring Palestinians, labelling almost every post, story, and comment as sensitive content. Not to mention the Israeli paid censorship of hashtags such as #SaveSheikhJarrah & #FreePalestine.
The Israeli MFA is investing millions of dollars to attack, blackmail, and censor celebrities and official bodies that support Palestine, pushing further the instrumentalization of antisemitism to counter the criticism of Israel, and Palestinian liberation. These tactics are both harmful to Palestinians and Jewish communities actually facing antisemitism, colonial, imperial, and racist oppression.
Palestinians in 48 (Israel- Occupied Palestine) are facing colonial oppression on multiple levels; Israeli Police are violently arresting online and offline activists for engaging in peaceful protests and for advocating for Palestinian liberation, Israeli's are firing Palestinian workers and company employees, while also boycotting Palestinian local products, and physical assaults in the streets are still very much a thing.
In Jaffa, there are approximately 300 forced expulsion orders for Palestinian houses, by the state-owned colonial real estate company ' Amidar '. An estimation of 20,000 Palestinians are now living under the threat of being homeless. This is just a continuation of what Israel and its neo-liberal colonial companies have been doing to Palestinians in 48 ' lands.
Since May 10th, more than 25 Palestinians were killed by the IOF (Israeli Occupation Forces) in protests in the West Bank. Since the "ceasefire" Israel invaded al Aqsa, detained 500+ Palestinians, surrounded Silwan & Sheikh Jarrah, demonized the entirety of Palestinian society in Israeli and right-wing (but not only) international media, protected armed Israeli civilians in assaulting Palestinians, and let Israeli civilians/soldiers/police officers who shot Palestinians dead, walk free.
Don't Stop Talking About Palestine.
Save Sheikh Jarrah.
Save Silwan.
Save Jaffa.
Free Palestine.

Forgiveness is such a trap and I honestly highly recommend not forgiving people who’ve done irreparable damage in your life. Despite what people say, you don’t need to forgive someone to have peace in your life.
