I haven't posted on this site in at least a god damn decade and yet here I am
I love that the minute AO3 goes down everyone collectively flocks to this website to ask the same question with varying levels of insanity attached

alright i’ll say it
macavity being the reason the other candidates (cat-andites?) go missing from the rest of the musical after their intro songs makes sense and shows that macavity is an asshole lives up to his reputation instead of just one song and catnapping old deuteronomy
it was a good lore addition the movie made
it gets 1 point for that
also i like the idea of the mister mistoffeles song being one of encouragement instead of just bragging but that’s more of a “good for in-movie universe thing” cuz as a song/scene it halted too many times for my liking despite still being a good song does that make sense god i hope it does

I’m not sure of which angle of the Gus and Grizabella are brother and sister theory I find more sad:
- The version where Gus knows exactly who she is and can’t even bring himself to look at her because he still feels betrayed that she left (Let’s flesh this headcanon out and say that he and she were very close. They were either from the same litter and fraternal twins, or Gus was a couple of years older, and they used to dream about becoming performers together. They did the cat equivalent of community theatre at first, became popular in the circuit and Griz let that go to her head). Gus got Bella her first big break. The impression that his sister thought she was too good for him hurt him immensely, and he never really got over that.
- The version where Gus, suffering from Parkinson’s dementia (which cats cannot have but they can get dementia and can have parkinsonian like symptoms, and the combination makes sense with Gus as a character, so I’m sticking to it), has memories of his sister from before she left that drift in and out, but has no idea who Grizabella is (because she doesn’t look like his sister from the last time he saw her). Sometimes (though it has become less frequent) he talks about her like she’s just left, sad, and hurt, but confident that she’d be back. That he knew his sister and that once she’d got a taste of what she was looking for, she’d realize that it wasn’t what she wanted at all. He confidently ends every tirade by saying that he gives it a week. And…no one knows what to tell him.

CATS 1998 - Three Alternative Lifts
Victoria & Rumpleteazer, RTT & Misto, and Plato & Alonzo (of course)
The weather’s been nuts lately, all I do is shovel snow and shout at the sky. Drawing silly sketches is the only thing keeping my sane right now.

I know we all like to make fun of Plato for sitting like this throughout most of Gus’ song, while Mistoffelees and Victoria are being all elegant and demure (and even Pouncival up there looks relatively respectable and still).
But can we just appreciate that this is better than what happens when he really gets bored?
Sir. Control your legs.
