Fun fact if you have an ao3 account you can give people invites to help them get accounts faster
Just click on your icon then go to 'my dashboard' & hit the 'invitation' tab
Tumblr media
Then you can input someone's email to send them an invite
Since Ao3 has temporarily disabled guest comments due to very mean and pornographic bots, now is a very good time for 1) readers with Ao3 accounts to comment on the fics they love and cherish to make up for those who cannot leave guest comments and 2) readers without Ao3 accounts to join the waitlist and make an account!

Alright, to ao3's soon to be arriving Wattpad Refugees, a basic guide to general user culture:
1.) Unlike Wattpads vote system that let's you like each chapter, the ao3 equivalent kudos only allows one per work. Everyone is generally quietly annoyed about this. To engage with each chapter, you're heavily encouraged to comment. Trust me, it makes people's day.
2.) Ao3 has no algorithm. By default it's latest updated work first. You can find things to your taste through searches, filters and tags.
3.) 'No archive warnings apply' and 'user has chosen not to use archive warnings' mean two very different things. No archives warnings means the work is free from any content that could require a warning tag (character death, graphic depictions of violence, non-con, etc). User has chosen not to use archive warnings means it could contain any of the warning content, be it hasn't been explicitly tagged. Treat it like an allergen. No archive warnings apply is allergen free. User has chosen not to use archive warnings, may contain traces or whole chunks of the allergen. If you're likely to have a bad reaction, maybe don't take the risk.
4.) Speaking of warnings, ao3 has very few restrictions on the type of work that's allowed. Whatever your personal thoughts or feelings on that are, thats how the site is. You're likely to run across some dark subject matters and a lot of people are uncomfortable with reading that. You're well within your rights not like these works and have your opinion on whether they should be allowed, but harassing the authors of such works (or any works) is more likely to come back on you than them. Ao3 operates on a strong policy of 'don't like, don't read'. Use the tagging system to your full advantage to only engage with the kind of works you want to see.
We look forward to welcoming you all and seeing the fantastic works you create. Happy writing!

Actually Batman shouldn't kill. The reason he doesn't kill is because he believes wholeheartedly in the good in humanity and the sacred value of all life. His belief in rehabilitation and second chances is meant to put him in contrast with the corruption in Gotham, both with regard to the corrupt justice system/police force and the criminals, who all take lives with no regard for its value. Being surrounded by such fatal violence and corruption on a systemic level and even being affected by it on a personal level, and yet finding the strength to not only rise beyond it, but to fight for a way to fix and save the very cause of such unfathomable pain is what defines the character of Batman. Batman is about protecting the innocent and fighting against injustice so that what happened to him never happens to anyone else. Batman is about breaking the cycle of killing and rising beyond it to become a beacon of hope for a better future. Batman killing and taking justice into his own hands is literally the antithesis to his character. If your Batman kills, then he is not Batman.

i hate it when i cant even write a poem about something because its too obvious. like in the airbnb i was at i guess it used to be a kids room cause you could see the imprint of one little glow in the dark star that had been missed and painted over in landlord white. like that's a poem already what's the point

Wow wtf HIV/AIDS was discovered by Flossie Wong-Staal, an Chinese-American woman, and she’s the reason the HIV test even exists. AND THEN she invented the molecular knife that lead to treatments for HIV/AIDS. And she’s STILL ALIVE. We don’t hear about the contributions of Women of Color enough, my word. Madness.

since I'm into the humans are weird/space orcs type creative writing you get on here & reddit I've always HC Clark's abilities as being adaptions for dealing with a deathworld, Kryptonians are all into gene editing & I don't imagine that a world explodes overnight there must of been some buildup of environmental changes
For example how does one deal with an increasing gravity on a planet when you already have interstellar travel, probably by editing in some gravity control gene which under the increased power of a yellow sun turns into full on flight
Although given that Clark has spent basically his whole life under a yellow sun i imagine that suddenly being under a red sun instead would be the biological equivalent of taking a human who's spent all their life at sea level & sticking them at the top of Chomolungma (Everest) without an oxygen tank so if anything he should immediately be exhausted/fatigued but it shouldn't completely remove his abilities
It's not like red sun is poisonous like kryptonite is, Krypton had a red sun so it's what he evolved to live under so for my analogy about suddenly being stuck at the top of a mountain it would probably be better to say a human with high altitude adaptions that's lived all their life at sea level
It's a minor pet peeve of mine when somehow de-powered Clark (usually via red sun radiation) is portrayed as just being a regular human. He's not.
Kryptonians are aliens, and logically, for Clark to be able to do all that he does under a yellow sun, Kryptonians should be able to do something similar (though far less powerful) under a red sun too. Why would Clark be able to take in energy from the sun if Kryptonians didn't do the same on Krypton?
A kryptonian under a red sun (or depowered Clark) should still have keener senses than a human and be able to see in more wavelengths; maybe still able to move a little bit faster than a human could or be a little bit stronger. Be more durable than a human too. The mechanism for heat vision would still be there, just less powerful (maybe emits closer to infrared?) Maybe a Kryptonian under a red sun can't fly, but they can glide/hover/jump a lot further.
Anyway, the point is: Clark's an alien. Even without his powers, he's still an alien.

Bruce: "One second I'm going to open up the files and show you."
Clark, wincing at the bright lights: "You okay if I turn some of this off?"
Bruce: "Go for it. Okay so here-- *bats rustle above and Bruce freezes, slowly glancing up* --uh, here you can see the evidence from the blast."
Clark, touching the screen: "There, that's what I saw at the crime scene. Is that from the shrapnel or something else? Bruce?"
Bat flaps overhead and Bruce flinched a little, distracted: "Huh?"
Clark: "Are you-- how can you still be afraid of bats?"
Bruce: "I'm not afraid of bats." *more chattering and flapping and Bruce nearly ducks* "For fuck's-- Clark, does it sound like they're closer to us now? Stop laughing."
