Who all did you choose as participants in your study and did you manipulate their environments to see how they react and did they know you were manipulating their lives? How long did this go on and when will you be done writing your book?
Hello Anon.
I assume you are writing about the ‘live in love’ project I have some stuff about here on tumblr. I haven’t done any scientific studies. It was basically dumb teenage essays about nonsense I didn’t know anything about but was trying to figure out. I used pseudo-scientific language about some random observations I made - and I’m sorry about that. I didn’t manipulate anyone’s lives or environments - thank God. It sounds like one terrible study. I will not use such bullcrap language in the future.
Had I been smarter, I would have had a more structural perspective on ‘why people live as they do’ and I would have seen that many people are basically being forced to live in ways that they don’t like, so more powerful people - bullies with law, police, and guns - can use them as resources, either as labor, clients or renters. Exploitation is what hinders people from doing what they love.
I did finish the book years ago and it was baaaadddd. I would recommend reading something like David Graebers Debt, Utopia of Rules and Bullshit Jobs or pretty much anything from him instead (his essay on bullying on the Baffler is amazing).
Instead of inventing personal strategies for living with exploitation in ways in which it is not totally awful, we should instead just get rid of it.
Self-help and personal development are in my current opinion a waste of time. It’s not us who need help, rather it’s Western society that's sick. Activism has done a lot more for me than Positive Psychology.
I’m sorry if you spent a lot of time reading my old bullshit. I will delete it, so others don’t go through the same.
Basically, all you need to live a life you love is freedom from exploitation. I hope we all achieve that.
