Vanessa was still waiting on an answer from the University of Britechester. She was the last person in her class waiting on a response and at this point she was sure that she didn’t get in. If she didn’t get into UBrite she could still try finding a job. Her aunt, Magdalena, was still pressuring her to get married either to Alfredo or CJ. Vanessa was flat out refusing to marry Alfredo, she’d rather be deported. She also wouldn’t marry CJ just to clear up her immigration status; Vanessa had decided when she got married it would be for love.

These last few months without CJ had Vanessa absolutely miserable. Vanessa loved how CJ made her feel, she wasn’t in love with him, at least she didn’t think she was, but she knew that she loved how he made her feel. When she was with CJ she was a normal girl, with a normal guy; not the undocumented girl with the threat of deportation lingering over her head. Vanessa was going to tell him the truth but she just needed a few carefree days to make memories she could hold onto in case it all went to hell when the truth came out.

Estella’s Saturday ritual ever since the new Target was opened in the neighboring Evergreen Harbor was to aimlessly walk the aisles with her coffee dreaming of all the ways she couldn’t afford to redecorate. CJ would rather do anything then follow his mother as she heavy sighed aisle through aisle.

He was almost at the exit when he saw her, Vanessa. He hadn’t seen or spoken to her since she stopped by his house on his birthday a couple months ago, he was giving her space to un-complicate her life, whatever that meant. Somehow CJ had managed to be alone that entire time, something practically unheard of for him. What got him through it though was that the entire time he clung to the belief that if they were meant to be, they would be. Here she was on her way out of Target and if he hadn’t separated from his mom when he did he might’ve missed her. Was this it, the moment of truth?
