The Lord Of The Rings stars Elijah Wood, Billy Boyd, Sean Astin, and Dominic Monaghan show support for The Rings Of Power cast amid racist backlash: “You are all welcome here”.

The cast of The Rings of Power also posted a statement on the official accounts of the show on social media.

We, the cast of Rings of Power, stand together in absolute solidarity and against the relentless racism, threats, harassment, and abuse some of our castmates of color are being subjected to on a daily basis. We refuse to ignore it or tolerate it.

JRR Tolkien created a world which, by definition, is multi-cultural. A world in which free peoples from different races and cultures join together, in fellowship, to defeat the forces of evil. Rings of Power reflects that. Our  world has never been all white, fantasy has never been all white, Middle-earth is not all white. BIPOC belong in Middle-earth and they are here to stay.

Finally, all our love and fellowship go out to the fans supporting us,  especially fans of colour who are themselves being attacked simply for  existing in this fandom. We see you, your bravery, and endless creativity. Your cosplays, fancams, fan art, and insights make this community a richer place and remind us of our purpose. You are valid, you are loved, and you  belong. You are an integral part of the LOTR family – thanks for having our backs.

I’m so fucking sick of this fixation on obsolete manufacturing jobs that only get attention because they’re seen as blue collar white man jobs. We’ve lost 90,000 retail jobs since Trump was elected, which is more than the entire coal industry employs. But we’ll never hear a peep about those because that’s work for women and POC.

And fuck all this demagoguing about foreigners stealing your job. A robot stole your job and it’s never coming back. 50 years ago a steel mill producing 500,000 tons of steel wire per year would employ 1,000 people, enough to prop up the economy of a small town. A steel mill with that same output just opened up and it employs, wait for it, 14 people. You won’t even see any humans on the production floor, just watching the monitors in the office above. No pussygrabbing orange fascist is gonna turn back the clock on that one. Oh sure, there was a candidate with a plan to retrain everyone in green technology jobs, but solar panels seem vaguely effeminate, not like the muscular labor of dragging shitty rocks out of the ground for pumping poison into the air. How about we really get back to basics and let dentists stick leeches on you again, there’s a lost source of income they could use. Maybe get some blacksmiths back to work. We’ll have a purely nostalgia-based economy and all the old demographics that we’re comfortable with.

Amid a firestorm of speculation that he fired FBI Director James Comey in order to stymie an investigation into his campaign’s possible ties to Russia, President Donald Trump let off a tone-deaf series of tweets about Democrats Tuesday night and Wednesday morning, ultimately saying the country “will be thanking” him for letting Comey go.

Trump began his Twitter tirade on Tuesday night, slamming Senate Democratic Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) for being upset over Comey’s firing despite the fact that Schumer has said he had no confidence in Comey’s leadership. Read more (5/10/17 9 AM)

Comey reportedly thought he was being pranked when he first learned he was fired

Former FBI Director James Comey reportedly thought he was being pranked when he first saw news of his own firing, (New York Times)

Comey was speaking to FBI employees in Los Angeles on Tuesday, the Times reported, when news that he had been fired came up on the screen of a television that was playing in the background. 

According to the Times, Comey saw it and “laughed, saying he thought it was a fairly funny prank.”

That’s when “his staff started scurrying around in the background and told Mr. Comey that he should step into a nearby office.“ 

At the time that Comey emerged and confirmed that he had been fired, he still had not heard directly from the White House, the Times reported. Read more (5/10/17 9 AM)
