I feel like the parallels I see between Bernie and Hawkeye exist in the stuff beyond the sitcom layer. Like I think of the episode where everyone gets the flu and Hawkeye is the only one who pushes through to treat the wounded, or the one where he doesn't sleep for like 3 days because he refuses to stop working. It's that kind of tenacity that borders on a lack of self-preservation that lines up with Bernie in my brain. Also the way Hawk always stands up for the marginalized, his refusal to tolerate bigotry and racism, is extremely Bernie Wolfe.

Well I caved - I'm onto the second season of M*A*S*H and loving every minute, so thanks! The only catch is now I'm finding myself pondering a Berena M*A*S*H au. There aren't really one to one character parallels, but sometimes Hawkeye has big Bernie energy lol. And I think Serena might be Hotlips??? Much to consider... 😅
