Verb of the day: miettiä
miettiä = to ponder, consider, wonder, think about
The only trick with this verb is it used with partitive. (I always try to use this with -sta/stä form because in English it is "to think of" or "to wonder about", but in Finnish it is just partitive).
Mietin häntä. = I was thinking/wondering about him.
Hän miettii elämäänsä. = He was thinking about his life.
Oh and one other tiny trick with these "iä"/"ia" verbs is that the past tense and present tense are the same for minä/sinä/me/te/he
Mietin. = I wonder, I wondered
Mietit. = You wonder, You wondered
etc.
But not for the "hän" form:
Hän miettii = He wonders
He mietti = He wondered

Monta/monia/useita
Remember to use the singular with “monta”:
monta ihmistä = many people
And the plural with “monia”:
monia ihmisiä = many people
…
And for some reason “many times” can be: “monta kertaa” or “useita kertoja”
(but NOT monia kertoja).

能,可以,会:what’s the difference?
Sometimes they are explained as: 会 means "know how to," 能 means "to be able to," and 可以 means "to have permission to." This is a useful way of thinking about them, but in reality their usage does overlap somewhat.
A: ability in the sense of “know how to” (会 is more common than 能)
B: permission/request (use 能 or 可以)
C: possibility (use 能 or 可以)
D: permission not granted (use 不可以)
E: impossibility (use 不能)
Examples
Permission/possibility
老师,我可以早点走吗?- teacher, can I leave a little early?
我能这里抽烟吗?- can I smoke here?
Future
今天会下雨吗? - Is going to rain today?
Basically that’s it!
An advice: Chinese may seem to be extremely hard or impossible, I can assure you that you can really learn it ;)
Corrections are welcome! ;)

Yrittää / kokeilla
yrittää: to try [as in to attempt to something]
kokeilla: to try (something), to give something a go
I quite often mix up these too, because in both cases the verb “to try” fits in English.
Yrittää give the sense that something is attempted in the traditional sense of the word as in English.
Kokeilla gives the sense someone is giving something a go, experimenting with a new idea or trying out a new thing.
For example:
Hän yritti kertoa minulle, että olen liian vanha kokeilla sen. - He tried to tell me, that I’m too old to try it.
Yritin soittaa, mutta hän ei vastanut. - I tried to call, but he didn’t answer.
Yritin kävellä, mutta minun jalkani sattui liikaa. - I tried to walk, but my foot hurt too much.
Lapsi kokeilee rajoja. - Children try boundaries.
Kokeile kolme päivää ilmaiseksi. - Try for days for free!
Also “kokeilla siipiään” - means to spread your wings (i.e. to try your wings)
