five & vanya || i was alone.

I’m not sure if I’m entirely happy with how this turned out. It seems sloppy and sucky so I’m just gonna chuck it into the world and make a run for it. 

Not even sure what I wanted to do with this edit but I’m a sucker for parallels, so this edit was more like a parallel scavenger hunt for me I think?? 

This also isn’t a shipping edit, just FYI, but feel free to view it in however you like :) 

I’ve been kind of obsessed with their dynamic because I can’t seem to wrap my head around it. Their past and reasons for being close is never explained at all, it’s only subtly hinted at. And you’d expect that the last person in the household to give Vanya the time of day when they were kids would be Five, or at least I would assume since he has such this hefty superiority complex. His whole personality and his actions towards others just make you think that he wouldn’t be the person that he’d be Vanya’s bestie, but for some reason, he was. Even became a confidante to her. It is just perplexing. I just love their sibling dynamic because it’s unexpected and I find it very sweet. 

Few things I want to point out: 

1. I find it kind of funny that the apocalypse revolves around them pretty much, her being the cause and him being the one trying to stop it constantly. Not that there’s anything to laugh at, it’s just ironic since they have a close connection, that Five has some sort of soft spot for the cause of the apocalypse he was stuck in for 45 years, and somehow doesn’t hold any resentment against her because of it. 

2. They both have similar traumas and loneliness that derives from their trauma. Vanya’s cage was a soundproof vault. Five’s cage was an apocalypse. I’ve been kind of waiting for them to bond over their loneliness or at least mention it. Hopefully, they touch on it in season 3. 

3. Also, think it’s dope that their powers are visually similar in terms of color and how it radiates off of them in waves. It’s cool.

ok but the way old!five responded to luther about the apocalypse about vanya and said “timid little vanya?” IS SO CUTE I CANNOT-  five has always been protective and loving of her even after all these years!!!

why is five so soft when he's around vanya like what are these acting choices and what do they mean, I didn't ship any of the siblings but season had me reconsidering fiveya all over again

aww well, they did establish in season 1 that they had a special connection, what with vanya leaving snacks for him even after he was gone and five calling out her name before anyone’s when he jumped to the apocalypse, and there was always this gentleness between them...but i feel there was also this condescension, where five felt comfortable with her because she was “ordinary”, as he put it. he’s still soft with her in s2, but he has to reckon with her powers and adjust his image of her. that’s why that scene where they’re almost at each other’s throats (”don’t test me right now”) is so interesting, because five is kind of a spoiled brat, used to overcoming his opponent, and he knows vanya could probably best him, not only because she’s stronger than him but because he couldn’t actually hurt her, whereas he has seen her hurt them. it’s a really cool dynamic and i hope we see that competition/antagonism resurface, because it needs to be addressed. i do want to eventually put my thoughts in a fic and idk how shippy it’s gonna be, but i do wanna explore the softness! (mixed in with a hint of jealousy and possessiveness)
