We will now talk in detail about a mechanical keyboard that we had already selected for our tests: the Razer Ornata Chroma mechanical keyboard
THE RAZER ORNATA CHROMA MECHANICAL KEYBOARD TEST
As for each of our tests, we first offer you a summary of the technical characteristics of the product before carrying out a detailed test:
he Razer Ornata Chroma mechanical keyboard is a high-end model from Razer which is equipped with innovative technology. It is indeed a hybrid keyboard. It has a membrane and mechanical keys.
The Razer Ornata Chroma keyboard looks like a typical no-frills gaming keyboard. Its dimensions are not remarkably large, and it is entirely black, except for the backlight. The Razer Ornata Chroma calender includes a large, padded wrist rest that connects to the front of the keyboard, giving you a place to rest your hands during those moments when the action slows down.
MANUFACTURING QUALITY
The build quality of the Razer Ornata Chroma keyboard is very good. There is no real fear about the longevity of the keyboard. This keyboard is therefore quite faithful to the reputation for reliability that characterizes Razer.
PERFORMANCE
The design of the Ornata Chroma keyboard is unique: a combination of a rubber membrane and classic mechanical switches to have the best of both worlds. Razer calls this “Mecha-Membrane” technology. In practice this technology is quite effective, typing comfort is very good and this keyboard is really performance. On the other hand, it is regrettable that the “Mecha-Membrane” technology does not really limit the noise, which is quite substantial.
Another thing that you are more likely to be able to see are the updated key caps, which are about half the height of traditional key caps. Razer says the shorter key cap reduces the time it takes to record your actions, allowing you to type faster and be more responsive during very lively games.
FEATURES
From the functionality point of view the keyboard is quite limited. There is no USB or audio connection, to connect additional devices or headphones. There's no more dedicated media keys; to access these types of volume control, playback, macro recording and lighting, you will need to press the Fn key (which replaces the traditional Windows key) and the appropriate function key in the top row (F1 at F12). As for the control of the LEDs it can be done using the downloadable software Razer Synapse. The latter allows you to configure the LEDs in any of the 16.8 million colors, in a variety of pre-configured patterns or a configuration of your own design. This degree of customization is difficult to find on keyboards in this price range.
CONCLUSION
the Razer Ornata Chroma is a mechanical keyboard which, given its price and performance, will satisfy a large number of players who want an efficient and innovative keyboard. It is a pity that it does not have multimedia keys, but it is the price to pay to have a keyboard that remains accessible.
