Autism is not the result of demonic possession, and having an autism awareness week is not idolatrous or satanic.
Not all Christian schools are this obtuse, of course. Still...

Vernor Vinge (1944-2024) - File 770
Well, damn. Never going to see what happens to the humans on Tines' World or the evil remnants of the skroderiders' master's armada. But at least we have whole works like Rainbows End (with its intentionally missing apostrophe).

Oracle warns Java users not to upgrade to macOS Sonoma 14.4 on Apple silicon, JetBrains IDEs impacted • DEVCLASS
This is bad behavior. Apple should not have changed the signal sent to processes between the beta and final releases of Sonoma 14.4! It's a serious behavioral change for an OS, one which the beta didn't adequately prepare users for.

Tesla paid no federal income taxes while paying executives $2.5 billion over five years
Tesla paid no federal income taxes while paying executives $2.5 billion over five years https://www.engadget.com/tesla-paid-no-federal-income-taxes-while-paying-executives-25-billion-over-five-years-154529907.html
Netflix paid something like 1.6% in taxes, and its execs made off with way more than that...
We really do need to be taxing these corporations and their executives more. Tesla shouldn't be getting refunds.

What is more formally correct: 'predominantly' or 'predominately'? Why? - Quora
I've been seeing a lot of instances over the last year or so of the word "predominately," but people need to fucking learn that the correct term is predominantly.
I just saw this monstrosity in a Canadian publication (albeit one from Quebec). Previously, I saw this in a U.S. military publication, which was not shocking but disappointing in terms of editorial standards.
Some dictionaries now include "predominately" as a synonym for predominantly. While they may provide usage notes explaining that this is not the preferred word (similar to "irregardless," a word that will brand you as uneducated), the mere presence in a dictionary is enough to make some folks think it is perfectly OK to use.
Fun fact: Android autocomplete has both "irregardless" and "predominately" in its dictionary, but only irregardless is flagged with a blue underline. This is starting to remind me of the way that "substitute" has changed in usage since I was born.

This evening, our cockatiel Chica passed away. Chica had been hanging out on Ronnie's shoulder and back earlier today, but when I came downstairs from a nap, she was lifeless in the bottom of her cage. She seemed to be a little sick recently, maybe some respiratory thing, but it didn't seem so bad.
She originally belonged to my father-in-law, and when he passed, we took her in. It took a few years for her to warm up to us, but she became comfortable being held by Krissy and Ronnie. For me, it was giving her pets.
Luckily, Krissy had a couple photos of Chica with Ronnie, which I've shared above. Personally, I'm gonna miss her singing while I was on work-related conference calls.
