not to sound old fashioned or whatever but getting rid of payphones is a mistake, and the only reason we should do it is if we're replacing them with free, public use phones. Having the ability to reach out to others in every place of public congress and transit is an important safety feature and the advent and adoption of smartphones does not negate their utility.
I know i've already lost this battle, so it's somewhat pointless to say, but smartphones die. chargers aren't always there. smartphones break. some people don't have them. Being able to call someone and ask for help, to get in touch with friends and family, without relying on something you yourself own, is a societal good.
Furthermore, expecting everybody to have a single piece of fragile technology on them at all times to the point that critical services are not available without them is truly mind-boggling to me. This goes for things like restaurant menus and transit maps as well. you should be able to navigate the world without a brick made by Apple or Samsung, and if you can't, then something is fundamentally broken. It's one thing for new technology to augment an existing real-world experience, it's another thing to usurp it entirely.
Well that's a new one for me. Honestly, wasn't initially thrilled to have this insect flying towards me in my room but I caught her safely in my sweater and relocated her outside so I could do some research.
She's a snakefly, and is likely 2-3 years old. That scary looking sting is actually an appendage (ovipositor) for inserting her eggs into crevices. She'll prey on aphids, etc., and is going to be quite beneficial in the garden

Gardening, especially in early spring, looks kind of a hot mess. Right now it's about seeing what survived and removing the weeds, grass, and moss that's crept into the beds. It's a little more delicate trying to turn over the soil in the places where the flowers have already reseeded themselves.
But I'm excited for these gardens! The columbine has lots of babies, and both the pincushion flowers and the chamomile survived the winter. I'm hopeful the pollinator garden is going to be wild come summer, now that it's on year 2.
If I ask nicely will people reblog this and tell me what their most common breakfast is? Not your favorite necessarily, just what you have for breakfast most frequently? 🙏🏽
this is going to be difficult -> i am capable of doing difficult things -> i have done everything prior to this moment -> this difficulty will soon be proof of capability
Shoot shoot shoot. Having now met the actual humans of the house, friend cat is actually female and named *drumroll* ....Kitty? She's also apparently spicy to their other cat and will sometimes scratch her owner. It's happened enough times that the husband has been suggesting they get rid of her...
There is now a non-zero chance that I wind up with this cat.
