Now that the art is done I can finally say it:

MEET MY HAZBIN HOTEL OC!!

Eloisa is a former Edwardian beauty, member of the English aristocracy, and a victim of the Titanic disaster. She had a bad attitude, was extremely promiscuous and shameless about both things. When she was in her early 20s, after several failed attempts to arrange a proper marriage, her parents sent her off to stay with an estranged aunt in America, thinking that working on her property would straighten Eloisa out. Unfortunately, the liner they put her on was the Titanic.

While she had a good time with several crew members and maids during the voyage, in the end, she was one of those who froze to death. Because of this, she's a more humanoid-looking demon rather than an aquatic one and possesses the ability to conjure ice and snow at will. Her skin is mostly pure white, but her legs and arms have an ombre pattern that goes from that pure white, into light blue and finally dark blue. She covers this effect with long gloves and stockings that she wears at all times, even while performing. She also dresses in typical Edwardian fashion (even donning a large hat) with her hair half-up, bringing attention to her status as a "loose woman" of the time and is rarely ever seen without a cigarette, a spot of tea, or a fan.

Since 1912, Eloisa has worked as a boudoir model and exotic dancer. She sold prints and performed live for over a hundred years, but with the rise of social media, she shifted. She still uses her former methods, particularly in the pockets of hell that are still in the past, but also utilizes social media to gain a large audience with her posts and whatever their version of OF is.

She toes the line between holding on to her past and embracing new technology and fills a very specific "vintage" niche. Due to all of this, she and Velvette originally struck a business (no soul, just business) deal and are now secretly entangled (because they won't admit they've moved from entanglement to girlfriends). Valentino even once refers to her as Velvette's "Edwardian Princesa.”

Should be noted that Eloisa does not make films and is out of that circuit (which may explain why she's spared from whatever the hell Valentino has going on), but it's speculated that she may be the author behind a series of well-known erotica novels.

Overall, she's vain, obnoxious, classist, sometimes racist, and enjoys stirring up chaos (she was the one who let Alastor in the hotel in my headcanon pilot). However, Husk points out that she uses her attitude to cover up her insecurities and the twisted feelings she has about her past.

2. Favorite canon thing about this character?

Velvette: Her attitude and looks. Seriously, girl is serving. Even though it is immature at times, I just love her overall aura and aesthetic. Plus, I love how observant we see her being in the bit of time she gets on screen and the fact that her looks change so frequently, which speaks to her position as a trendsetter and fashion designer.

Carmilla: Like Velvette, I like her attitude, but for different reasons. She's clearly been in position for awhile and that reflects in the way she conducts herself. I also love how she will literally murder for her family. I have a thing for protective characters who are also secretly soft with certain people (in this case, her daughters).

4. If you could put this character in any other media, be it a book, a movie, anything, what would you put them in?

Velvette: Oh, geez. I guess I never thought about it much. Maybe something akin to Project Runway/Rainbow where I could see her being a great judge.

Carmilla: This is super obvious, but considering Striker is mentioned as having a Carmine-crafted rifle, it would be cool to see her in Helluva Boss. I know it will never happen, but the idea intrigues me.

5. What's the first song that comes to mind when you think about them?

Other than their respective songs from the show:

Velvette: Shameless by Camilla Cabello, but that's because I ship her with an OC of mine and it reflects that.

Carmilla: Sexy Bitch by David Guetta ft. Akon, for... reasons. I'm simping respectfully.

6. What's something you have in common with this character?

Velvette: Hmmm... Fashion, I suppose. Not in that we dress the same, but enjoy creating it (even if I just do sketches).

Carmilla: Not much, actually. The only thing I got is that we're protective of and will go to bat for those we care about.

(This is my favourite Velvette look (Planning to cosplay it eventually!). And I just love the attitude you can see in her everything here).

Velvette: We haven't seen many side of her, but in some ways, Velvette reminds me of early Carla Delgado. Like, season one through mid season two where she was more ornery and disrespectful before Ash happened and she chilled out.

Carmilla: No one, honestly. Like, she has traits in common with other fandom characters, but I can't peg just one character from a fandom I've been in as being similar. Or I'm just blanking right now.

Is this a question?

Kidding. Obviously, I love her with Jack and I'm one of those people who believes that, if he survived, they could build a genuine life together. Not saying it would be easy, but I believe they could do it. After all, Rose did it on her own canonically.

Now, I also have a soft spot for my own Rose/Lovella (OC) ship from my canon-divergent fanfiction. In an AU to the AU where Jack does die, I see the two ladies eventually getting romantically involved.

11. What’s the first thing you think about when thinking about the character?

I love you. Seriously. I am a simply person. I see Rose, I hit the like button.

23. Future headcanon

Post-Titanic Rose, Jack, and Lovella start a new life together. Even with three incomes it’s not easy at first, but they do their best and after years of staying in New York and building their funds, they head out to California after World War I where Rose starts acting in a theatre company.

27. If they could meet a character from another show/movie/etc, who would be the most fun for them to meet?

Honestly, I always thought that Rose would get on wonderfully with Samantha Parkington from the American Girl book series. Especially as children. I could see 10YO Rose and Samantha getting into all sorts of mischief.

28. The most unnecessary thing they ever did?

Usually I say “Rose did nothing wrong” and I hold to that. But probably punching that steward in the face. Like, I understand it narratively and fully get her frustration but *damn* Rosalie. You want help or not?

2. When I think I truly started to like them (or dislike them, if you've sent me a character I don't like)

I want to say it started with "Realm of the Jaquins" and then the move into season two as we started to get more of her character and I had more to explore and work with in the fics I was starting to create.

My partner says I have a type when it comes to female characters and it's pretty much, "pretty girls who are lonely/suffering" (the level of suffering varies) and Carla fits that type.

13. Your favorite friendship they have

So, she doesn't really have any friendships in canon. Not developed ones, anyway. I like to imagine that she becomes better friends with Elena and Co. Though isn't quite a part of their group.

In my Mirror World AU, I really liked developing the friendship she has with Mirror!Isabel Where she takes what Elena has taught her and is able to reach out to someone else and also forms a genuine bond with her.

I also enjoyed exploring the AU friendship between her and Elena before she became the group's fifth wheel. What I liked about this one is just exploring how Elena and Carla give each other a legitimate chance and end up becoming close friends. It's something Carla really needed in canon. A friend her own age that she could just be a teenage girl with.

17. What do you think their first word was?

100% her first word was "Papa." That's a headcanon I have had since the beginning and I'm sticking to it.

2. When I think I truly started to like them (or dislike them, if you've sent me a character I don't like)

I honestly don't remember. I first read the manga and watched the 2001 anime when I was around 13-14 years old. All I remember is not thinking much at the beginning.

I now know that's because I was young and didn't quite grasp the complexities of the story. It's only when I came back to the series as an adult that I finally understood the whole of Tohru's character arc and now I really love and appreciate her character (though my favourite is still Akito *shrug*).

13. Your favorite friendship they have

Ugh. So many to pick from...

She means so much to everyone in that inner Sohma circle (including my OC), but if I had to pick, it would have to be a tie between Kisa and Isuzu. I'm a sucker for good girl friendships (see: Rose and Lovella (Back to Titanic)).

I love how Tohru brought Kisa out of her shell and how the latter remains close to her throughout the series and -- I like to think -- beyond canon. They have a sweet, sister-like dynamic and I am always here for it.

Watching her and Isuzu build a bond was equally beautiful, but in a different way. Seeing Tohru not give up even when being pushed away again and again (because Rin didn't want her to get hurt) and Isuzu finally giving in and opening up to her and later continuing to watch out for and worry about her was everything. I love these two so much.

17. What do you think their first word was?

So... I'm sorry, but, I don't actually have an answer for this one. I'm not familiar enough with Japanese language to know what typical first words are for babies over there.

When I was younger, I used to think Ayame was very annoying and overbearing.

Now that I'm older, he's a gem.

Yes, he abandoned Yuki when he was a teenager which was shitty. Yuki reached out to him for help and Ayame literally shrugged him off.

When he was an adult, he was filled with SO MUCH regret. He realized what he did wrong and tries to make up for it. In an odd way, yes, but it's what makes him human and a relatable character. We've all been shitty teenagers and have done and said stupid shit that hurt people and I fucking love him.

Also, he was so correct in acting annoying ON PURPOSE so that Akito wouldn't want anything to do with him. Akito doesn't fuck with him and he pulled the same shit on his mom that it literally made her skitter from a parent/teacher conference.

He also said "bottom rights" which.... amazing.

I love this man and I did not appreciate him that much as a teenager. Now, as an adult, I get it.

I actually have a similar headcanon for Victor and Carla. That he tried hard to get her the pretty dresses and things she wanted and also tried his best with her hair (though in mine, he never quite mastered more than a ponytail. He tried, though).

And YES. After the “Spy in the Palace” Arc, she’s totally messing with Mateo. The look on her face here says it all. This is clearly the face of someone who knows she’s being annoying and is proud of it.

3. A song that reminds me of them

Ughhh I’m terrible at associating songs with characters unless it’s Gabe or my own characters x) But I enjoyed working on the Carla video with the song Stilettos (that I made for you) and since it was super simple to choose a scene for almost every line, I’d say this song actually fits her a lot and I love it for her.

4. How many people I ship them with

You know I always said I was “a multishipper” because I was open to a great variety of romantic relationships between different characters and didn’t have strong preferences. But now I realize it means that I just don’t care about shipping x) I don’t mind Carteo, I don’t mind Gabela, I don’t mind Carla/Naomi in case it even exists, I don’t mind whatever. The only exception is Alonso because I ship him with another character, and that is one of the rare ships I actually care about and have strong feelings for.

Alright, this question and the next one are extremely difficult because I have no idea XD

But alright, I think Victor, as a single dad of a girl, tried to be involved in all those girly things, like buying pretty dresses (even if they didn’t have much money) or braiding her hair (although I’m surprised why he wouldn’t just cut her hair short. Given their lifestyle it would be quite convenient) because Carla liked it and Victor just wanted to give her everything other girls around her age had.

Plus, I don’t think Victor ever hid from Carla that her grandfather was a treasurer (and yeah, she actually knows it, she mentions that her grandfather used to work in the palace), so as a little girl, she actually dreamt of living in a palace and being a princess. And the love Victor gave her made her feel like one when she was little.

24. What do you think is a secret they have that they never told anyone?

Hmm.

Honestly, I feel like after the finale Elena told Victor and Carla that Ash is now trapped in the Spirit World (because c’mon Elena is not a monster, she would definitely tell them) and as much as it could seem Carla was indifferent to this news, she never told Victor how crashed she actually was when she heard it? I mean, yes, Carla accepted that Ash chose power over her family but she still couldn’t attack her in Coronation Day because she never stopped loving her. Victor seems more detached, I think? Of course he wouldn’t throw a party but I don’t think he would grieve either. Unlike Carla who still loves both her parents and is too bad at showing her true emotions, as we see in The Lightning Warrior.

I’m really not sure whether it even makes sense but I just really think that Carla wouldn’t talk much about her feelings about Ash especially with Victor.

30. The funniest scene they had?

Ajhdnf I love it when she says “burn” at Esteban being locked in the dungeon, too, after his reveal. And every time she gets Mateo’s name wrong also makes me smile (I’m convinced she does it on purpose after a while)

I already know how great Fruit Baskets is based on your recommendations, but what do you think of the two anime adaptations? Also any other good mangas?

Sorry. I read this and then just forgot to answer.

So, I actually haven't watched the 2019 adaptation all the way through. I know I need to get on it, I've just been busy and sometimes struggle to start new shows.

As for the 2001 adaption I think it's okay. I'm very in the middle on it. I think it's alright for what they had to work with and how anime was made and marketed at the time. But, I'm also glad that the creator did allow for redux with the 2019 series. Fruits Basket is an amazing story overall and deserved to be seen through to the end.

As for other good mangas, I loved Ultra Maniac when I was younger, also Shugo Chara, Death Note, Sailor Moon and Happy Marriage. Black Bird was good until they forced in a pregnancy.

Since I know it’s a hobby of yours, how did you get started in cosplay and what draws you to it? Is it the fashion? The acting? Etc. I don’t know much about the cosplay life.

Honestly, I got into it just because I wanted to dress up as my favourite characters. I wanted to go past my imagination and actually wear the outfits.

I’ve been running around and roleplaying since I was a kid. I was never super into dressup as a smaller smol, but I could and would just envision myself wearing the outfits and being the characters. Once I set my mind to it, I WAS that character.

Now I do it mostly in private when working out story scenes. So when I found out about cosplay as a teenager, I was fascinated.

Unfortunately, I didn’t actually get to do it until I was 21 or so. My parents were less than understanding and said they were not paying for my “freak stuff,” so I spent a long time just wishing and dreaming.

As time went on and I got more crafty, the artistic element came into play. I learned how to style wigs because I was unsatisfied with a commission I got and had to redo it. I got really into experimenting with makeup and finding the right colours and techniques that worked for me. And yeah, it can be stressful. But I’m also a bisaster train… so a lot of things stress me out.

Ultimately though, it’s fun. I don’t make my own costumes, so I can’t speak to that. But at the core, I got into it for and just love dressing up and playing my faves.
