February’s Lindsay’s Favorite Things theme is… Sanrio! 🎀

I have so many great memories surrounded by Hello Kitty and the wide world of Sanrio, and yet top of my list is always remembering the times I’ve visited the Sanrio store on 42nd Street in NYC. (Sadly, it is now closed.) First of all, it had a security guard. (That may have both made me nervous AND thrilled me.) I remember stopping in between the years 2000-2007 and the rush of immediately spotting the big selection of little stickers sheets and pens, pencils, and stationery sets. Then when cell phones and cell phone accessories became more popular, seeing the more pricey Hello Kitty-adorned phone cases and charms behind the check out counter, dreaming of being able to afford that souvenir. Visiting in my late teens in 2008, the store redone in a more sleek design - the “Sanrio Luxe” concept — offering mostly expensive items for sale. One year I saved my Christmas and birthday money and went in with the intention of buying one pricey item: one of the giant stuffed animals, or a purse. I came out with a giant Charmmy Kitty plush that lived some epic times in my life, and that I still have today.

During formative years of my life a visit to NYC was never complete without a stop in at the Sanrio store. To me, Sanrio is the epitome of girlhood. 💖 Hello, February!

There are so many spreads and collages I didn’t get to post while I was drowning in coursework. One was this autumn collage. I love using The Pulp Girls zodiac-sign-specific posts as inspiration. It seems as though this year I’m finally tackling my Favorite Things that always made me nervous to actually do — because they mean so much to me. The BTTF movies are comfort movies to me. I can recite lines along with the movies. I love the costuming, the joking lines, the plot twists.

September’s Lindsay’s Favorite Things theme is: The Sopranos 🇮🇹🍝 (Where’s the gabagool emoji?!)

This is one of those themes I really wanted to do justice, and with that sentiment in mind it’s taken me a long time to actually do. I’m really happy with how this cover page came out. Shout out to IG plansthatblossom for sharing her gorgeous pattern work pages. It inspired me to make the faux-washi that’s supposed to be a take on those Italian restaurant table cloths.

Let’s get down to brass tacks, though: pulp, no pulp or some pulp in OJ? 😉

The last page of Lindsay’s Favorite Things for August, Best Furrends Forever (Joey and Dolly) theme: my habit tracker!

Today is Joey’s 12th birthday!

It is a very happy day. I did not think we’d be celebrating his 12th year. I have not wanted to talk about this publicly – I haven’t been ready to – but the last few months have been tough for Joey. Joey has had teeth issues for 8 years now, and for all of those years he has to be hand fed by syringe 3x/day, and at this point he has medications 3x/day as well. He has regular molar trim surgeries – every 6 weeks.

This past June, his health deteriorated. He developed an infection, and it was looking as if it’d be a “quality of life decision” for a couple of weeks. I was not in a good place. Crying often throughout the day, sobbing. Grieving. It really snuck up on us that Joey isn’t a baby anymore. He’s always had a baby face, and he is so incredibly sweet, that he’s always been called a baby in our home. But the reality is that he is 12 years old, a senior. He has far outlived what I rationally know he “should” have, could have, would have lived in another home/situation. I take solace in that when we had to visit a new vet, and when meeting with our trusted usual vet, both them and their techs commented on the degree of how well-loved and cared for Joey is. It gave me a bit of comfort hearing them say it is a testament to me. How could I not give him my everything, when to him I am his whole world? Joey has a piece of my heart. He is my baby. I have raised him since he was 3-5 months old. I am still grieving, as I usher Joey into the next phase of his life. I am not ready to not be his “Mama” anymore. But today? Today is a joyful, happy day. And Joey, all on his own, has and has always had one hell of a will to live. Cheers to Joey “Poopey” Lawrence, on his 12th and all of his years. I love you.

𝐻𝑒𝓁𝓁𝑜 𝒜𝓊𝑔𝓊𝓈𝓉! 💗

This month’s Lindsay’s Favorite Things is very personal. August holds both Dolly’s first birthday and Joey’s 12th birthday. I couldn’t choose to spotlight just one or the other! Even though Joey is my baby, he is also my best friend, and Dolly is my little best friend.

Although they don’t interact without a cage and some space in between, Dolly and Joey are becoming fast close friends. Joey loves to jump around his cage and tease Dolly — he’ll go up high and then jump down to his lowest floor loudly, completely thrilling Dolly. She’ll cry for Joey to come out of his little houses so she can “play” with him. (As described.) It’s just so cute. They’re aware of each other, and love each other.

Note of caution: chinchillas should not interact closely with any other animal. They should never be outside of their cage able to wander free with any other animals in the house. (They should also be closely monitored when they are outside of their cage, regardless.) Accidents can and will happen, fast.
