Clint made an OK sign, and Bobby started the recording.  For his own reference, he said, “Safezone Heroes Outreach, call to Jubilee.”

"This call out is for Jubilation Lee. Hey sparky, I'm sure you are fending off the zombies and whatnot just fine out there. But there are some folks here that miss you. Plus this is probably safer and more fun then trying to blast Zombies all the time. We got clean water, hot showers and soft beds. Also if the people looking for you wander off that's no good for anyone. Come to the Safe Zone Jubilee, we're waiting for you.“

Heroes inspire us, sometimes one hero in particular. Each of these young women looked up to someone who stood up, and used their skills to change the world. Some were inspired by members of their own family, others saw themselves in a stranger, but each have the power to make change in the world, and each has taken the name of their inspiration.

Whether the name was bequeathed, granted, or taken, each of these women have filled the shoes of their predecessor. Their current plight has not changed this fact one jot. In the face of events fit for a horror movie, these ladies have a legacy to continue, and they aren’t interested in backing down.

Telephone networks have failed, the internet is gone.  Modern communication seems to have come to an end.  What remains is radiowaves.  People with the right equipment have begun to communicate with anyone in range using CB radios, walkie talkies, whatever they can get their hands on.  Some are broadcasting, some are just listening.

As she tuned the radio through the various channels, looking for news, Kamala heard the end of a series of numbers that sounded like coordinates.  As the static cleared, a familiar voice sounded, a voice she had not heard in ages --

This is Phil Coulson reaching out for Kamala Khan. If there’s anyone I know that would make it through this virus, it’s you. You’re a smart kid, maybe too smart for your own good. But if you are hearing this, find your way to Haven, it’s safe, and it’s got some friends that I’m sure you will be happy to see made it. Here are the coordinates, stay safe kiddo and see you soon.

Orphans, widows, experiments and survivors, these are the sort of people that desperately need a found family, and luckily enough, this group found each other. Ostensibly a group of thieves and assassins with hearts of gold, the Guardians of the Galaxy do try to keep the work legal as best they can these days, and every now and then, they’ll drop everything to be heroes.

The communication was relayed through the Galaxy, “Total embargo on Terra now in effect due to Planetary Event Omega.” While Peter Quill makes a show of having no attachment to his home planet, the Spartax Prince is always ready to defy a direct order. After promising Rocket and Drax that they would probably get to kill a whole lot of shambling monsters, the Milano sped towards the planet that the rest of the Galaxy has written off as doomed. Unfortunately for them, the Nova Corps were more than aware that “forbidden” means different things to different people, and were ready to shoot down any ship that approached Earth’s atmosphere. With the ship breaking apart, and the Guardians being fired out of different escape pods, who knows when they will see each other again?

The world has fallen to a virus unlike anything humanity has seen before. Whole countries have dissolved into chaos as the infected vastly outnumber the healthy, their ravenous hunger for uninfected flesh spurring them forward like monstrous locusts. Asgard was the first border closed, the slightest whiff of a disease that spread so quickly without cure drove Odin immediately to action. The intergalactic allies of Earth soon followed suit, seeking the safety of distance. Soon, forces greater than anyone could fathom sealed the universe, so that no other part of the multiverse could be affected by the contagion.

But all hope is not lost. Superheroes, based safely behind high walls, are gathering survivors into their care. Haven began as a single house, with room to spare and many underground floors, to be sure, but still just a house. Over time, the house became insufficient, and now Haven is a fully-fledged town. Here many people have built a new home, and while there is no hope for a cure, there is a chance for immunisation.

Many superheroes in the past have rejected the idea that they are soldiers. Now, there are few other ways to describe these paragons of Earth. They are prepared to fight and die for the tiny nation they have built, to protect those less able to fight for themselves. This may very well be the highest stakes for any war the Avengers or the X-Men have ever fought; a fight for the survival of mutants, inhumans, and humankind alike.

The Fantastic Four has always been a family. Even before Sue and Reed were married and the children were born, the world's first superhero team were bonded to each other by their experiences together. The whole family was either apart for the outbreak, or separated in the confusion of it all. Aliens, time travel, interdimensional incursions, and it's the overblown rabies that finally separated this team.

Sue, separated from her teenage children, her brother, her best friend, and her husband, found her way to Haven. She had no idea of who of her loved ones were even alive, and she was exhausted from months on her own. She recorded radio messages to draw her family home, and decided that while she waited for them, she would help work on a cure.

The Milano had been shot by the Nova Corps just as they were entering atmosphere. The faithful ship, home to the Guardians of the Galaxy, began to break apart on entry, and emergency evacuation measures had to be put into place. The Guardians were scattered, searching transmissions for one another on primitive Terran equipment, until one day –

Guardians of the Galaxy. I know becoming stranded on Terra was never part of the plan... We won't be getting paid anytime soon, the Milano is nothing but scrap at the moment. And the Earth needs our help. So we don't really have much choice. We fight. Make your way to Haven. We have shelter and food ready for you. I look forward to seeing you all again. Even you Rocket... Gamora signing off.

When Odin closed Asgard’s borders and took Thor into custody to prevent him from aiding Midgard, there were some rumblings of discontent. The outbreak in their client realm was fearsome, yes, and there was no knowing whether Aesir were susceptible, but mere years ago, Midgard had sheltered them in their time of need. The City of Asgardia had hovered over Oklahoma, its people reborn from the bosom of their planet, and they were nurtured there until they could return to their rightful place in the cosmos. To some, this was a grave betrayal.

Odin’s many failings as a ruler fostered a movement as months became years. A plan was formulated, and under the Allfather’s nose, Asgard’s most loyal became the Rebels of Asgard. Four hundred Asgardians led by Thor and those closest to him took supplies, weapons, and personal possessions and went a-viking. On Midgard they will build, farm, raid and make war against the hordes of undead; and when they return to Asgard, they will rejoin those rebels which stayed behind, and relieve Odin of the throne which he keeps warm for the Son of Asgard.

An influential person will inspire a lot when they’re gone. Everybody wants to be remembered, but few stop to wonder how their legacy will be taken up by those who come after us. Some may wonder how Peggy herself would feel about the Legacy of Agent Carter. She would definitely be prouder of some taking up her mantle than of others.

SHIELD is not merely the work of one woman, it is certainly not the culmination of one vision. A lot of the work of a spy is utilitarian, the ends will justify the means, or the mission has failed. SHIELD is on the back foot now, if they exist at all. The world has certainly changed, and not for the better. But after HYDRA dealt a blow to SHIELD’s credibility that seemed as if there would be no recovery, perhaps an extreme threat is exactly what’s needed to try to gain a little trust back.
