The reason that it didn’t get a higher rating was because of how annoyed I was with the main character and how indecisive he was.

Something really quick (and kinda stupid xx)

Draco’s half asleep in the common room, the lull of the rain drooping his eyes lower and lower. He’s almost about to drift off totally when the door opens with a loud bang. Instinct makes him bolt upright, one hand tight on his wand, pressing his body into the couch as he frantically tries to counter whatever attack was coming his way.

He relaxes slightly when he sees Ron and Hermione, but only slightly. The scar on Hermione’s throat stands out like a beacon, a slash of white against the warmth of her skin. Ron stands next to her, his arm wrapped around her waist; he meets Draco’s eye with a wicked grin, one that Draco had only seen twice before.

Once, when Ron had been leading the Hogwarts Students into battle, that fierce, euphoric smile that only came with desperate hope. The second time was when Draco had been baited into playing a game of chess against him, looked down at the board and realized that he was about to get checked.

“What do you want,” he mumbles, letting himself drop back into the cushions. “I was about to sleep.”

“But this is far more important!” Hermione says, and with a jolt Draco realizes that she was frowning, really frowning, and he really was about to get his ass kicked.

“Nope,” he says - he scrambles back desperately but only encounters the arm of the couch. “Nope nope nope. Absolutely not. Whatever this is I don’t want to hear it.”

Ron ignores him, though he always did that. “Draco, Draco,” he cackles. “We’ve come to give you the talk.”

Draco raises an eyebrow. “The sex talk? Because i think you’re a little late for that - “

“No,” Hermione says, as Ron pantomimes vomiting behind her. “The dating talk.”

“Oh,” Draco says. Then; “Oh.”

Ron grins. “Yep!”

“Oh god,” groans Draco, burrying his face into his jumper - Harry’s jumper, he realizes. Ron and Hermione notice at the same time that he does - Ron mimics another elaborate upheaval and Hermione just shakes her head.

“Right,” Hermione says, her face stern. “Look, we know you like Harry.”

“No shit,” Draco mutters. Hermione ignores him.

“And we know he likes you - a lot. Like, a lot. Sometimes I think you were the only thing keeping him going through the war. And - I’ve known him for ages. I can tell you that he’s liked you for a long time.”

“Third year at least,” Ron cuts in.

“And - look. Harry’s tough. We all know that. He’s faced Death Eaters and Greyback and fucking Voldemort and he does that without batting an eye but I’ve seen him full on panicking because he doesn’t know what to wear to Hogsmeade with you.” Hermione smiles, and Draco sees a bit of steel come into her voice, something dark and a little scary. “And he loves you. Almost as much as we love him. So trust me when I say - I’ve read Secrets of the Darkest Art. If you ever hurt him - if you ever so much as give him a paper cut, I will find you and I will curse your ears off and feed them to my cat.”

Draco swallows, hard. “Oh.”

“Mate,” Ron says sympathetically. Hermione shakes her head.

“I’m not finished. I swear to god, Draco, you better not hurt him. If I find out you’re just fucking with him, god help you - “

“I won’t!” Draco protests. “You know I wouldn’t - I love him - “

“Hey,” Ron says - he crouches down so he’s eye level with Draco on the couch. “Look, mate. We know you wouldn’t hurt him on purpose. I mean, who would, besides Voldemort? Harry’s pretty much universally liked huh?” He chuckles, though it didn’t really do much for Draco’s nerves. “We’re just saying - it’d probably be better if you didn’t accidentally hurt Harry, you know? Otherwise we might cause a small accident.”

“Which wouldn’t be fun,” Hermione cuts in, “Given that I, you know, kind of planned the whole Dumbledore’s Army thing.”

Draco rolls his eyes. “Jesus Christ, you guys. I would never hurt Harry. I swear it.”

Both Ron and Hermione fix him with almost identical stares - Draco swallows and holds their gaze. “I promise,” he says.

They hold it for a minute longer and then Ron suddenly stands up, a breezy smile on his face. “Well then,” he says. “Draco. A pleasure. I hope your friends haven’t murdered Harry.”

“My - “ A horrible thought crosses Draco’s mind. “Oh god. Where’s Pansy and Blaise?”

“Bye Draco!” Hermione calls as the two of them exit. “You’ll probably see Harry in a bit, after they’re done with him!”

Draco burries his head in his hands, though he can’t stop the small smile that stretches across his face.
