Tortured poets so funny cuz when she’s fantasizing about him he’s this magical lover who actually Understands Her and when they get together she’s like Oh you’re kinda gross and annoying
AND AIN'T THAT ONE OF THE WORLD'S MOST COMMON EXPERIENCES?
The progression from ‘I’ve loved you three summers now honey but I want em all’ to ‘another summer taking cover, running thunder, he don't understand me’
I’m not even sure there were many more good summers after that, maybe three was it :(
Thinking about the connection between “I wouldn’t marry me either” to all the marriage imagery in TTPD (you took the ring off my finger and put it on the one” and “talking rings and talking cradles” like I just know He realized the crack in the armor and used it against her and then to just leave? It’s vile.
what's even sicker is that i believe he realized the crack in the armor because she told him
“And so I was out of the oven//And into the microwave//Out of the slammer and into a tidal wave” is actually the key to understanding the entire album and why it’s unclear which song is about which man
Thinking about how she experienced slow and fast tandem death
as i said on album night, i think she views this entire ordeal as a near-death experience in the most literal sense of the word. and i think it's notable that she made the album about it while it was going on, not retrospectively, because you can hear it. the progression from down bad and guilty as sin? to the smallest man who ever live happened in REAL TIME.
Thinking about “When she finally rose, she rose slowly Avoiding old haunts and sidestepping shiny pennies Wary of phone calls and promises, Charmers, dandies and get-love-quick-schemes” and “all at once, the ink bleeds A con man sells a fool a get-love-quick scheme” being bookends of the same relationship
