Cults - Crybaby
New York Duo Cults share a new song Crybaby, it was released on April 23rd. Cults are comprised of Madeline Follin and Brian Oblivion.
Bad company
Is every day the same routine?
Eyes like the sea
And once again the problem’s me
Please
I’m slowly losing sympathy
“What could it be
That occupies your mind?” I screamed
Crybaby
So caught up in your misery
Crybaby
You waste a lot of time it seems
You need
To always put yourself at ease
No life for me
Fallin to pieces
Endless grief
Crybaby
So caught up in your misery
Crybaby
You waste a lot of time it seems
Dry your eyes
Baby
Turn off the scream
Dry your eyes
Baby
Turn off the scream
Crybaby
(crybaby)
Crybaby
(crybaby)
Crybaby
(crybaby)
So caught up in your misery
Crybaby
(crybaby)
You waste a lot of time it seems

Kiki Dee “Excuse Me” (Fontana 870, 1967)
I’m guess I’m running with a theme of “White Girl Week” here. And as most likely, we skip across the pond to England to find our next Blue Eyed Siren. Kiki Dee had made a name for herself with some arch uptown soul covers and originals that ranged from Wall-of-Soundalikes to borrowing what Jerry Butler borrowed from Lorraine Ellison.
In the dwindling years of her career at Fontana, she really started fashioning herself as a Jr. Dusty Springfield, and this slightly noir arch ballad from the Fall of ‘67 borrows cues from Springfield’s Grand Guignol best. It must have been plenty for Motown executives to look towards signing her in the wake of Springfield’s move to Atlantic.
Meanwhile she had difficulty throughout the decade charting singles at home and abroad, which is sort of puzzling given some of the breath and depth of her work.
