Today marks the start of Trans Week of Awareness 2020, November 13-19. #TransAwarenessWeek leads up to Trans Day of Remembrance (#TDOR, Nov. 20). We are observing Trans Week of Awareness in many ways this week – from fundraisers to education to visibility for the people of our community. Share your voice with us: what does trans awareness mean to you? This question is for everyone, but especially our trans family, and the Black, Indigenous, and people of color of our community. How are you celebrating this week, and our community? What does your community mean to you? What do you wish everyone knew about transness? [ID: Video with a light blue background, brown dots, and white lines projecting from a pink and white circle. Cursive white text with a dark blue background diagonally on either side of the circle reads “Trans Week of Awareness, Nov. 13-19.” Inside the pink circle is a Black hand holding a trans flag. The Trans Empowerment Project logo is in the bottom right corner.]

In Australia, NAIDOC Week is a week to celebrate the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
This land was stolen. Sovereignty was never ceded, and traditional land is still under occupation and attack, most recently with the destruction of the sacred Djab Wurrung tree in Victoria.
I pay my respects to Indigenous elders past, present, and emerging, and thank them for their work in passing on the memories and traditions of their people, as well as in preserving the land.
This land is, was, and always will be Indigenous land.
