Me, to my mentor: No, you don't understand. I know I'm good at my job, I just have anxiety.

Conversation Prompt
“I’m sorry I told you that I love you the other night.”
“Because it wasn’t true?”
“No, it was completely true. It’s just super awkward now.”

I have decided that I am going to embrace my writing style.
My writing style isn’t beautifully lyrical or poetic and it can get extremely cliche at times and that is okay. I still believe that I’m good at what I do. And most importantly, I love doing it. 😌
This is your sign to embrace your writing style too! Everyone tells their stories differently and that’s okay. There’s someone out there who will appreciate it and your words will impact them regardless if you write in beautiful prose or not. Even if they don’t outright say it. And what matters is that you tell your stories how you want to tell them. 💙

How it typically goes when I let my brain write some self-indulgent scenes to put in my backup folder.
Meets: *says something so horrendously out of pocket that anyone with morals would were to hear, they would self-combust*
Bloom: *kind of wants to apologize to everyone in the room, kind of wants to propose to this sassy goblin*
The demon they've basically adopted: *slow blinks in horror* Do you kiss Bloom with that mouth? And in front of the baby, too! (means the dog)

Stop what you're doing! Stop it!
If you are a BIPOC writer frustrated with representation (and what other people think that representation should be), go watch American Fiction.
If you are a non-BIPOC person who doesn't get why your BIPOC friends no longer talk to you about their writing, go watch American Fiction.
If you are someone who wants to tell a story without the selling point being the color of your skin, your upbringing, and your status as a minority–aka, just a story with soul that is a minority story because you wrote it and you are a minority–go watch American Fiction.
Bonus: just go because you will see the intimate workings of an author as they vividly hallucinate their whole plot. And Jeffrey Wright's voice.

Layers
I have decided that life is about layers. Painting, writing, clothing, make up, music, cooking, relationships–it's all about how you line up complementary levels to achieve a final product. May we all master layering in 2024.

the problem with reading and writing leading to a strong vocabulary is that you tend to know the vibe of words instead of their meanings.
if I used this word in a sentence, would it make sense? absolutely. if you asked me what it meant, could I tell you? absolutely not.

Happy New Year 2024
May this be the year your WIP complies with your wishes and lends itaelf to be molded.
May your plots be full of holes you know exactly how to solve.
May your readership be plentiful and quick to praise.
May you find your way back to the pen and unleash your soul through every stroke of figurative and literal ink.
Happy 2024!
