Sometimes the loneliness of Hydaelyn just guts me. Venat was a woman who loved people, loved working with others, loved being alive among them so much she chose not to return to the star when she retired from the seat of Azem. And then to bear an unspeakable secret shared only with someone who wouldn't be born for thousands of years from a fragment of her protegé's soul. (She knew Azem was going to be sundered. Knew she wouldn't be able to spare Azem that fate.) Age after age alone in the aetherial sea, watching mankind suffer, watching the last of her friends do unspeakable things trying to undo what she did, watching as age after age the compassion and curiosity she knew is wrung out of them by the merciless march of time and the weight of the losses they cannot forget and cannot let go. Watching and waiting, receiving the prayers of her people and building her power and speaking to her chosen few. Waiting for her last friend, that shard of Azem, to emerge from history, still ignorant of the secret they would one day share with her. Trying and failing to prevent Calamity after Calamity, wondering whether it would ever be enough, if even her Warrior of Light could stop what her people had merely managed to forestall. Making contingency plans--the moon, the Loporrits, thinking, If it is not enough, then mankind must survive long enough to keep fighting.

And all of that alone. And still she never stopped being driven by love, to the very end.

I was worried about how the updates would look for my main, since they adjusted the limbal rings. But I don't think she looks much different, so I'm fine with it.

FFXIV folks, if you're tried out the DT benchmark character creator and are concerned about how your character(s) look, make sure to try them out in the benchmark itself. The character creator still uses the same shitty lighting as it always has so the new skin textures look oily, lip color set to dark looks flat, and hair and skintones look washed out -- but they look fine in the benchmark scenes, which use the improved lighting.

(That said, some of the face models did change rather drastically... looking at you male Miqo face 4 :/)
