Spell Drabble 1 - Minor Illusion

“Danny, I know it’s hard but you need to go to sleep,” Vesper knelt next to her brother’s bed as he turned away petulantly, acting every bit the four year old he was.

“I don’t like it.” His response was short but left no room for argument, drawing a sympathetic sigh from Vesper.

“What is it you don’t like?”

“I don’t wanna sleep until Mama and Papa get back.” Vesper’s jaw clenched. Their mother and father’s faces were wracked with guilt when they told her they may not be back from a gala in Emon until well after dark, and though Vesper had managed to get Leona and Wolfe to tire each other out, and baby Gwen slept like the angel she always was, Cassandra keeping watch over her all the while, little Vax’ildan was always too nervous to follow them, never wanting to go far from their parents.

“I know Dan,” she muttered, taking a seat next to his bed, “but you really have to try. I’m sure they’ll be home soon, but in the mean time, is there anything I can do for you to help?” Danny shrugged dramatically.

“Why do they have to go to stupid galas anyway?” Vesper chuckled.

“You’ll go to some one day. Give them a chance, they’re kinda fun.” Danny rolled his eyes. “Okay, okay I see your point. For now though, can I try something?”

Danny nodded, somewhat indignantly.

“Okay,” Vesper muttered, a golden shimmer forming at her fingertips, “just try to sleep, Dan.”

An hour or so later, when Percy and Vex arrived home, they were startled to hear a noise coming from the room of their second youngest.

For a moment, fear gripped them before the sound came into focus, and Percy’s heart clenched with a smile.

His own voice was humming gently inside, the same tune he’d use to soothe his children to sleep.

When he and Vex walked in, they saw Vesper’s magic swirling about the room, the illusion of her father’s voice jumping out from every spark as she sat near her brother, now fast asleep. Vesper smiled at them as they came in.

“He couldn’t sleep without it,” Vesper explained, and her parents only smiled back, Percy tearing up just enough for Vex to notice.

“You’ve done well darling,” Vex responded, offering her a hand and beginning to lead her out of the room, “now let’s get you to bed.”

In my headcanons Vesper and Julius have a larger age gap than the rest of their siblings. Like Johanna had Julius then four years later had Vesper then had Percy a few years later and then after Percy decided to have quite a few more children in rapid succession before she got too old and wanted a big family. So Percy was around 17 when the Briarwoods attacked, Whitney and Oliver being around 15/16, Ludwig around 14 and then Cassandra just turned 13. So there was over ten years between Julius and Cassandra.

Percy absolutely pretended he was part of the older lot than Whitney and Oliver because Percy liked to pretend to be an adult. However Vesper did used to dote on Percy as he was her first younger sibling and he used to toddle after her when he was three and she was six.

Percy was the tallest de Rolo in the family, and Julius was totally not annoyed about that, but Percy knows that they never really saw if Ludwig or Oliver would catch up.

The only thing is that I feel like these older siblings may have had engagements already but I just explain it that Vesper hadn’t had a chance yet and Julius had already fucked up an engagement by being a manwhore (also a himbo).

Vox Machina Plays Mario Kart 

Vex’ahlia is obviously winning. Keyleth is better at this game than she gives herself credit for and isn’t doing half bad. Grog is being a little too aggressive with the turns and keeps crashing into things; and yet somehow, he’s still a place ahead of Scanlan. The game is clearly rigged! 

Vox Machina House Rules: 1). No loud music before 9 AM 2). Butter knives are NOT weapons 3). PLEASE try the doorknob first 4). Whoever breaks the door down, pays for it.

If I were to tag myself in this image, I’d be Percival-”I refuse to be humiliated over this”- De Rolo. Let’s just say I know where my talents lie, and Mario Kart is decidedly not one of them.

Oh my god I just realized

He waits for her approval.

Every time Percy needs to leave Whitestone with the rest of Vox Machina, he always looks to Cassandra first, almost like he's asking if she’s okay with him leaving.

He doesn’t want her to feel like he’s abandoning her again, like he's gallivanting off on another adventure and disregarding how she feels about it.

No matter how important it is that he leaves, no matter how much Vox Machina needs him, he’ll always wait for his sister to approve of it first.

He waits for her to say, “It’s okay. Go.” And then he leaves.

And in Cass' eyes, that's enough to at least begin to bridge the gap between them.

Because of that simple gesture, Cass knows that if she ever needed her brother, he would choose to stay with her in a heartbeat.
