Half of the request for @nine-kings-of-men

I meant to do The Blue Wizards together, but the composition kind of got away from me. Here's my attempt at a design for Alatar, I'm hoping to have Pallando done sometime in the next week or so.

There isn't much to go off for the Blue Wizards besides the fact that they seem to have gone to Harad and Rhun and they seem to have been Maiar of Orome. I tried to incorporate a different feel to his clothing and in some way reference the being a Maia of the Vala of the Hunt. Hence the initially unplanned hunting dog. I have named the dog Uruva.

This one is kind of not a request. One of my roommates bought me lunch last month when I was super broke and they really like Shadowheart. So, Shadowheart.

I'm counting it as a request since I'm using this new round of requests to either draw characters I haven't explored or try art things I haven't done very much or attempted at all yet. And I kind of did both here. I like Shadowheart from what I've seen of her so far (though I don't think I really dislike any of the BG3 companions) and I wanted to explore drawing her in a very different style than I usually do. I wanted to play with the idea of her rising up out of the darkness as she finds out who she really is and starts to really begin making her own choices. So here we are.

Next up is Fenris from Dragon Age II and then back to Tolkien with the Blue Wizards. Requests are still open if anyone has anymore ideas after that.

I do, this is just pandering to the artist, but I'll allow it. Wyll is the best character in BG3, this is just a fact. Larian give us more Wyll content.

Requests Open!

First off, I just wanted to say thank you to everyone who followed me or shared/liked my art in the last few weeks! I really struggled with getting the Corrupted Elven Ring Bearers done and I was concerned if people were going to like it, and that concern disappeared immediately. I feel really encouraged to keep experimenting and keep making art, so thank you. It genuinely makes my day to see your notes. I really appreciate the Tolkien Fandom here.

Okay, that said I'm opening requests again. I have a piece that I am finishing for a friend this week, and then I'll be free to start working on potential requests. Even though I probably won't be starting drawing until next weekend, I wanted to go ahead and open up requests.

I would mostly like to take Tolkien, but you could convince me to take on Dragon Age, Baldur's Gate, Fire Emblem, or DC as well. I'm happy to explore brand new characters or ones I've drawn 1,000 times. I'm willing to try most things, light gore and romance are fine. This is just a fun opportunity to grow as an artist. I think the turn around on these might be a little slower, I'm wanting to make full pieces for any request unless it is specified otherwise, but we'll see.

Hey, thanks for the ask, I'm always happy to answer questions about my art!

( I realized after I wrote this up how long this ended up being, sorry in advance)

I wish I had an interesting answer here, but honestly, I haven't thought it out too much. I was rereading the books last year and the idea of the Elven Ring bearers having to keep the rings hidden so they didn't fall under Sauron's thrall kind of stuck with me. I thought it'd be fun to play with what that could look like.

I'm not much of a writer, unfortunately, and I haven't thought too much about it besides some of the aesthetic choices I made. I can talk about the design decisions I made, if that's worth anything.

Galadriel is probably the most basic in concept for me, I wanted to play visually with being underwater and being kind of distant and above everything. The eyes were an attempt to play with idea of foresight

For Olorin I was thinking that everything that was Gandalf was burned away and kind of playing with a Balrog theme. I think as a Maia he's the most dangerous and the most powerful of the group. We see in the books Gandalf is definitely very proud, he knows how powerful and intelligent he is, you could potentially end up with another Sauron

For Cirdan I just had this thought of burning from inside. He's put up with so much, accepted so much pain and grief and disappointment that I feel like that would be the source of the flame, that it would just burst out. And then I kind of went with a dragon theme to match the Balrog theme (Olorin was drawn first)

Elrond was the first I conceptualized and the first I drew. The idea of the wings were what sparked everything. His mother got wings so he gets them, but more. Biblically accurate Elrond. I just wanted to kind of mess with the themes I always do with him so stars, and blues. But now instead of being a show of his lineage it's the void consuming him. Really wanted to play into the Eldritch Peredhel concept I've seen bounce around tumblr

And this final one is a bit of a spoiler. It's going up tomorrow, but I'm sure with the inclusion of Cirdan, Gil Galad isn't a suprise.

For Gil-Galad I wanted to play with the concept of air in a different way. He's dead, he's barely there. Just a memory of what was, twisted.

This ended up being WAY longer than I meant! I think a lot about design choices when I'm drawing, but don't usually end up saying much about them when I post. It was fun to talk about it!

If anyone has any other thoughts or additions to the AU I'd love to hear or see it!

Thingol for the first piece of 2024!

I feel like I finally nailed down a unique style for my digital art in the last year, and I'm looking forward to seeing where I can go with it in the next. I plan to put out a lot more art, aside from the characters I love drawing, I also want to focus on characters I haven't had a chance to explore yet. Once I finish the corrupted ring-bearer series I think I might open up requests again.

Thanks to everyone who's followed me and made notes on my art! You're a huge reason why I've been able to improve, it's been awesome returning to the Tolkien fandom after so many years!
