Russell Wilson vs Jimmy Garoppolo. Russell Hands Jimmy His First Loss of the Seeason
Tumblr media
This was a prime Monday night football matchup. The Niners were looking to keep their place as the lonesome undefeated team. For the Seattle Seahawks, this was the first meeting of the season against their rivals. The game between these two contenders, lived up to the hype. San Francisco jumped to a 10-0 lead with a touchdown pass from their QB, Jimmy Garoppolo. For him this game was an opportunity to upstage the frontrunner for MVP, Russell Wilson. Late in the 2nd quarter Seattle got what they needed, a strip sack returned for a touchdown. The score was 10-7 at halftime. In the 3rd, the Seahawks forced two fumbles off Garoppolo and made them into touchdowns, one of them from Wilson. They led 21-10 heading into the 4th. Early in it, the Niners forced a fumble of their own off Wilson, returning it for a touchdown. Garoppolo added two points with a nice pass, leading 21-18. After stopping Wilson, the Niners got within field goal range. Garoppolo almost threw a costly interception, it was dropped. They tied the game with 6:17 left. Wilson came back with a drive of his own, getting his team within range to kick the field goal. Down 24-21 with 1:47 in the 4th, this was Garoppolo’s chance to tie or win the game. This time, there were two dropped interceptions, however Garoppolo made enough plays for them to tie the game, and send it to overtime. The Seahawks got the ball first, looking to end this hard fought contest. They were near scoring, but Wilson threw a huge interception, giving the ball back to the Niners. This was it, as now a field goal wins the game. Garoppolo and his team got within range, but the kicker missed it badly. After that, Russell Wilson makes up for his mistakes and sets up his kicker for the field goal, winning 27-24. Garoppolo had one TD, one INT, and a QBR of 66.2. Wilson had one TD, one INT, and a QBR of 86.9.

Tom Brady vs Lamar Jackson. Lamar Stops Brady’s Quest to Perfection
Tumblr media
Prior to last night’s game, Tom Brady and the defending champion Patriots were undefeated. While New England had received their rightful praise, they had also received criticism. Most of the quarterbacks they faced were not of high quality. This time was however, different. They were facing Lamar Jackson and the Baltimore Ravens. Since taking over as a starter last season, Jackson has been one of the most successful QBs. For both he and Brady this game was a huge test. To start Baltimore dominated, leading 17-0 including a rushing touchdown from Jackson. But the Pats responded, capitalizing off turnovers with a few drives led by Brady. At halftime, it was 17-13 Ravens. New England got the ball back but couldn’t take advantage, fumbling the football which resulted in a touchdown return. They did comeback with their own touchdown, but from there it was all Lamar. He led his team to two more TDs, winning the game 37-20. With the entire nation watching, Jackson had a great showing. He ended up with a QBR of 107, 3 total touchdowns, and 0 interceptions. Tom Brady had 285 yards passing, 1 touchdown, and 1 interception.

Luka Doncic vs LeBron James. Young Star Goes Toe to Toe With Legend
Tumblr media
Growing up, Luka Doncic idolized LeBron James. Last year he received a signed jersey from LeBron after their first matchup. Doncic of course, was thrilled to have a gift from his idol. That same year was Doncic’s rookie season, where he lived up to his hype. He won the Rookie of the Year Award. He even put up numbers that were similar to LeBron’s rookie season. In it, James averaged 20.9 points, 5.9 assists, and 5.5 rebounds. Doncic on the other hand, averaged 21.2 points, 6 assists, and 7.8 rebounds. Last night featured another meeting between these two, and it was special. The first half belonged to Luka and the Dallas Mavericks, as he impacted the game with his scoring and playmaking. The Mavericks had a 10 point lead at the end of the half, but the Lakers made responded with a 15-3 run. LeBron made plays with his scoring and defense, giving his team the lead. But it lasted shortly, as the Mavs took an 85-76 lead heading into the 4th. The game continued to go back and fourth, right into the end. With under a minute left, Luka drove inside and kicked it out to his teammate for a 3, giving Dallas the lead. Down 3 with no timeouts, LeBron did the same thing. As he sliced through the defense, he found an open teammate, who drilled the game tying shot. In overtime LeBron took over, making big time plays including a step back 3 over Doncic to ice the game. The Lakers won 119-110. Doncic had 31 points, 15 assists, and 13 rebounds. LeBron had 39 points, 16 assists, and 12 rebounds.

Giannis  Antetokounmpo vs James Harden. The Two MVPs Battle
Tumblr media
Last season, there were heated debates about who the most valuable player was. The race for the award was between Houston Rockets’ guard James Harden, and Milwaukee Bucks’ forward Giannis Antetokounmpo. Harden was going for his second consecutive MVP, while Giannis’ was going for his first. In the end it was Giannis who came up on top, winning the 2018-19 MVP. This season, Harden and Giannis would have an early national televised matchup that was heavily anticipated. The first half went to Harden and the Rockets. He had 15 points, compared to Giannis’ 10. They led 66-50 at the half. In the 3rd quarter, the Milwaukee Bucks started to come back. Giannis, who was in foul trouble up to this point, started to make an impact. He scored 10 points as the Bucks fought back. Harden did not score in the 3rd but his team still led 87-78. In the 4th, Giannis took over. He scored more points and gave the Bucks the lead. Just as the Bucks regained momentum however, Giannis fouled out with 5:18 left. This was Harden’s chance to win the game for his team, but it did not happen. He only had 4 points in an underwhelming quarter. The Bucks won 117-111 with a 30 point triple double from the Greek Freak. Harden finished with 19 points and 14 assists.

Carson Wentz vs Dak Prescott. Dak and the Boys Dominate
Tumblr media
The Dallas Cowboys and Philadelphia Eagles. The two heated rivals clashed once again Sunday night. Their quarterbacks were in the same draft class. One, Carson Wentz, went in the first round. The other, Dak Prescott went in the fourth round. Since the start of their careers, both have been compared to each other. Going into the game, the record between them was 3-2 in favor of Dak. The Cowboys went up 7-0 early, then Wentz was looking to respond. However he was striped of the ball, and The Cowboys capitalized by scoring a touchdown. The two teams then exchanged touchdowns, both of which were passes. Late in the second quarter, the Cowboys added two field goals, leading 27-7. In the 3rd, Philadelphia forced Dallas to punt, and Wentz had a chance to spark a comeback. The Eagles drove down the field, reaching the red zone. They tried to get a touchdown but couldn’t. Wentz’s pass was incomplete on 3rd down and The Eagles were held to a field goal.
Tumblr media
Dak and The Cowboys then sustained a long 7 minute drive that ended on a field goal. Then The Eagles tried one last comeback with 11 minutes left, but Wentz’s pass was intercepted. The Cowboys ended up with the win, 37-10. Dak is now 4-2 against Wentz. The two will face off again in December. Wentz had 1 touchdown, 1 interception, and 161 yards passing. Matthew Stafford vs Aaron Rodgers. Packers Get a Controversial Win
Tumblr media
Last night’s game was another showdown between The Green Bay Packers and Detroit Lions. The two quarterbacks, Stafford and Rodgers, have gone at it for the last decade. The Lions won the previous 4 meetings, so last night was a chance for the Packers to reestablish their dominance. Up to the 4th, the Lions had a 19-`13 lead. Rodgers was looking to tie the game up, driving all the way into the red zone. But he threw a huge interception, which was returned all the way to the other side of the field. The Lions were in great shape.
Tumblr media
However, this was where things went horribly wrong. On 3rd down, Stafford made a pass that was originally called complete, but was changed upon further review. Despite the runner taking 3 steps with the ball the refs remained firm. This led to a field goal instead of a potential touchdown. The next drive, a sack from Detroit’s defense was negated by a hands to the face call, even though the replay showed hands on the jersey. After the call Rodgers threw a 35 yard touchdown, making the score 22-20. Stafford and the Lions then failed to put points up, giving the ball back with 6 minutes left. Rodgers took advantage, leading his team to Detroit’s 16 with a clutch drive. With 1:45 left the momentum appeared to stop when his pass was broken up on 3rd down. But once again a hands to the face was called, and once again the replay showed hands to the jersey. The Packers ran down the clock and kicked the field goal, winning 23-20. Stafford finished with 265 yards passing, 0 interceptions and 0 touchdowns. While Rodgers finished with 283 yards passing, 2 touchdowns and a rating of 90.0.
