oh shit malevolent 29 went public i guess it's time to reveal my new previously-patron-only project!!!

bg for those unaware: each malevolent episode is first released on the patreon in 5 chapters. most chapters end in a decision for arthur (the first one was whether to shoot eddie in the first scene or try to reason with him, for example), and the patrons vote on what he chooses.

these choices are presented by an entity that sounds like john, whom we call booth!john because we envision him in a soundbooth handling the recordings. his bit is cut from the public episodes, but kayne has alluded to the polls and they seem to be what arthur means by the "gut feelings" that compel him to a certain course of action.

ANYWAY, WITH ALL THAT ESTABLISHED, the patreon poll for ch.143 (hide from collins in the crowd or try to trap him in the caboose and decouple it?) was so heavily debated that people started writing poetry about the whole affair, so my hand was forced aaaaand i started making limericks lmao

i've made one for every chapter since, and plan to continue doing them until i, uh, stop. enjoy my first batch of now-legally-publishable malimericks (malevericks?):

So this might be either be an interesting ask, or super boring. Why does Rauru's arm give Link time powers? We are straight up told that Rauru's power is light, and Sonia's power is time. The way it's framed also seems to make it clear that the only way to pass on these powers is through genetics. Yet the power Link's arm has, has nothing to do with light, even though it's Rauru's arm; in fact, the arms power isn't just any old time power, it's the exact same type of time power Sonia is shown to utilise in the pavilion tea-drinking cutscene, where she rewinds the tea-cup. All of the powers of the arm are received from the 4 Zonai shrines in the beginning of the game, and the autobuild-function is unlocked a bit later, but still related to the Zonai structures. Zelda also isn't aware that Rauru is the arm we see in the beginning, so even if it was possible for Sonia to pass her power to Rauru, so Link could have it later, it was far too late for Zelda to make that connection by that point. Rewind is the odd one out, because it doesn't have any connection to the Zonai, and I'd say the fact that this is Rauru's arm does imply that at least the other 3-powers are inherent to the Zonai, or at least Rauru. But time, just like the other elemental powers, seems to be very specific to one person/bloodline. I know I'm rambling a bit, but I just finished the spirit temple, and had a "hold'up" moment, while rewinding a Korok from falling down a cliff on my bike.

Ohhh this ask is very interesting. And it is a really good question. Sorry I don't really know what to add, it's a really good point and I have no clean explanation!

Semi-related, but: the notion of Zelda having both Time + Light powers somehow, and still being a Sage, always struck me as weird. I know it's to make her out to be the descendant of Rauru and Sonia (despite them not having any clear children), but it feels... busy? Especially compared to before, where Sages just were The Most of something, represented one specific kind of energy that awakened in them

Had a dream about Eliot finding a big abandoned library that a giant spider person has made into their home. the spider person was very not nice and the experience left Eliot afraid of spiders even though normally he likes them (the spider person was also in control of all the normal spiders that lived there or something)
