Alice Oseman's Solitaire is a very important book and here's why:
A lot of the time when mental health is being depicted in fiction, it centres so much around the person struggling with it. Which, of course, makes sense. It's important to show what people go through when they suffer from mental illnesses, and it helps others in similar situations know that they're not alone in dealing with it. But it isn't very often you see something from the perspective of a friend or a relative and what they go through when someone they care about is struggling. Solitaire is a book that's so important for this specific reason.
Here, you have Tori. A teenage girl who spends 50% of her time worried about her brother, Charlie, and the other 50% of her time trying to convince herself that she isn't worried about him. She puts so much pressure on herself to keep everyone's heads above water that she doesn't realise that she, herself, is starting to drown. Their parents don't know how to handle everything that's going on with their son, so they act like everything is fine, relying on Tori to be the problem-free "normal" one. That's a lot of pressure to put on your 16/17 year old daughter. Tori takes on the responsibility of keeping her family happy and together, which ends up having the opposite effect and drives them further away from each other. So now you have two siblings that are so near but not within reaching distance when they need each other the most.
Which leads us on to the themes of guilt within the book. This is something that is so well executed and hard-hitting and absolutely crucial.
Tori is someone who feels a lot of guilt and regret when it comes to what Charlie is going through. She feels partially responsible for everything that happened to him. It's not her fault in the slightest, but when someone close to you is hurting and struggling, and you notice but don't do anything because you don't know how, it takes its toll. A lot of the pressure that Tori's under comes from the crippling guilt that she's trying to hold in. It manifests itself into something entirely different. She suffers with anxiety, she has negative thoughts, she hyperfixates entirely on solving the Solitaire mystery so she has something to do while her family is barely holding it together. She spirals.
And what's super interesting about this is how Charlie has a similar reaction at the end when he eventually comes to terms with the fact that his sister isn't okay, either. He mentions how he noticed but didn't do anything, and he feels awful about it. The Spring siblings have a remarkable way of avoiding what's right in front of them because who in the world would want to admit that their brother or sister is the opposite of okay?
And to add to this, I think we really need to note the importance of Michael Holden within this entire situation as well.
Michael is there for Tori consistently. He shows up when she doesn't even realise she needs him, he comes back whenever she pushes him away, and it's almost as though he's her only form of stability within the chaos. And that's exactly what she needs. She doesn't know how to handle what she's feeling about her family so she's pushed everyone else away. She needs someone.
Because it's so easy to ignore the state of your own mental health when someone you love is going through hell. So now we have Michael, a character who essentially says, "I'm here. Let me worry and look after you, while you unwittingly take on the weight of the world." Of course, Michael has problems of his own but if he and Tori can share their burdens between the two of them, maybe the weight of all of it won't feel so heavy.
Alice Oseman created something so underrated and special with Solitaire. It tackles things that can be difficult to talk about but need talking about. It reminds you that it's okay to not be okay. You shouldn't feel bad about feeling bad. And just because someone you love is struggling, it doesn't mean that you're entirely responsible for them. It doesn't mean that you're not allowed to grieve and be upset about it. And it doesn't mean that you're not allowed to struggle through your own issues either. But it does mean that you can find your own support system and let them pull you out of the metaphorical and, I guess in this instance, literal fire that's burning around you.

Gwayne's appearance in the trailer (with him riding fast with Criston to save Aegon) has intrigued me and I wondered what his relationship with his nephews and nieces was like? I don't know if Alicent had the chance to bring her children to Old Town but as someone who loves the Green family dynamics, I would love to know headcanons, anything, about the Green kid's relationship with their uncle.
Hello, and thank you very much for the ask!
There`s not much said about Gwayne in the book, and it doesn`t feel like we're about to see a lot of him in the show, so it is indeed more of a headcanon territory.
I imagine his relationships with Alicent's children like that (if there was time to develop them - if memory serves me right, Gwayne came to KL with Otto so he could watch the Targtowers growing up):
Gwayne would be very supportive of Aegon: if he was Alicent's elder brother (like in the show) they would bond on the "elder child with a lot of expectations weighing down on them" basis, and Gwayne's supportiveness would be more of a sympathetic kind. If it was the other way around, it would be more of a "you must be a good king, and you will be a good king" from Gwayne vs "I wish you taught me how" from Aegon, as the latter IMO would be more ready to open up to his uncle than to, for example, his mother.
Helaena and Gwayne's relationship would be quite sweet if not a very close one. I don't imagine him putting too much effort into truly inderstanding her - not out of indifference, more because to Gwayne his little niece would feel like a beautiful rare flower that needs protection more than understanding. He woud cherish Helaena and get furious after B&C, perhaps more furious that he ever was before in his life, because someone as pure and sweet as Helaena should never suffer like she did.
IMO Gwayne's relationship with Aemond wouldn't be a very close one, probably due to the fact that Gwayne wouldn't see in him much (or anything) of his sister - Aemond is Alicent's rage and fury after all, and I think that Gwayne would not be able (or willing), for various reasons, to look deep enough into Alicent`s soul to see this boiling pit. And Aemond, in turn, not feeling any particular warmth coming from his uncle would treat him more like an acquaintance (during his childhood) and ally (during the Dance) than like a relative.
Daeron, I think, would be Gwayne`s favourite, and not just because among Alicent's kids he was the closest one to the Hightower part of the family. As strange as it might sound, Gwayne could see young Daeron as a role model, as the one who got the best from both worlds (Valyrian and old Westerosi ones). And his affection for Daeron would be even greater because the youngest Targtower would understand him the best - the struggles he faced as either the youngest or the eldest sons, the pressure of being a son of the Hand of the King, a brother to a queen.
I myself am also very interested in discovering the dynamic Gwayne has with Alicent and, even more so, with Otto. However little we're about to see of Gwayne`s interactions with his kin, I'm here for it.

Sorrow, part 2
Tumblr media
Elyse Darklyn, no longer the Lady of this particular House, walked to the front gates of the castle to bid farewell to the king and his family. They had done the House a great honor by attending the funeral and now the new Lord would take over for his dead brother, while Elyse would return to Duskendale, to find herself some semblance of a life amidst her relatives.
She saw her brother in law, the new Lord, as he spoke to the king, and then he turned to her, his beady eyes appraising her even as she wore black in morning for his brother. Whoever he married would have to turn a very, very blind eye, for no servant, boy or girl ,was safe around him.
When he extended his hand to her, she felt a frisson of fear and her step faltered.
He could do nothing to her now, Elyse thought. She was headed home. Free of this place. Free of the hell that had been her marriage.
"You may congratulate me, Your Grace," he was saying, hand still extended toward her, "for I will be taking my brother's widow and making her a wife once again."
Elyse stopped, blood pounding in her ears. Amidst the murmurs and turned heads from those present, there was one person who stood perfectly still, and she found herself turning to him.
The king's brother. The kinslayer.
Her breathing was uneven, and if she did not find something to hold on to, she was going to faint.
"Come, sweeting," her brother in law was saying, "for you may discard your widow's weeds and rejoice once more."
The kinslayer was looking at her, his single blue eye blazing as he examined her face, and then looked at her brother in law.
Elyse couldn't move. For to take one step was to doom herself to more of the same hell she had barely survived.
"I must apologize, my lord," the king's brother said.
"Prince Aemond?"
"You see, the Lady Elyse and I have come to an agreement."
Elyse felt as if she was at the edge of a great precipice, and when the prince looked at her, she nodded.
"I do not understand."
Prince Aemond walked toward her, taking his time as if he knew that if he moved too quickly, she might bolt. When he offered his hand, it felt like the most natural thing in the world to clasp his fingers, and when he tucked her hand into his arm she clung to him, aware of the anger emanating from her brother in law.
She saw the prince shoot a pointed look at his brother, the king, and then he looked back at her. "After her mourning period is over, we are to be wed."
* * * * *
She didn't know if she should laugh or cry, so she did what she was used to and did neither. The king and his sister-wife were looking at her as they spoke quietly, while the king's mother, the dowager queen, sat silently next to her.
Elyse was used to disappointing people. She'd always disappointed her father, then her husband, and she'd certainly disappointed her brother in law, his angry red face the last memory she would have of him. She had been led into the royal wheelhouse and only after she'd realized that her betrothed was not joining her.
He'd be flying back on his dragon, of course.
"Would you like a sweet?"
Elyse realized queen Helaena was speaking to her and she immediately tightened her fingers in the fabric of her skirts. "Thank you, Your Grace, you are very kind." She reached out to take the tiny cake offered and smiled at the queen.
"I am very sorry for your loss, of course," Helaena said, "unexpected joy follows unexpected sorrow."
King Aegon rolled his eyes at the words and raised the shade to look out the window.
"There is much to learn," queen Alicent said then, "there is protocol and history, and you will be expected to serve in some of the charities. It is our duty to help the poor and honor the Mother in her love for those less fortunate. Every week, we . . . "
Elyse didn't care, she would do whatever was asked of her. She would keep her secret for as long as possible, and be grateful for the fact that she had been taken away from the hell she'd lived in for the last few years. She'd be grateful to breathe something other than the rotten air of her husband's breath, to hear words other than his foul jests.
And she would be grateful for the fact that she was spared yet another hellish marriage.
She hadn't spoken to her betrothed since he'd held her hand and taken her away, but one thing Elyse had learned amidst the insults and blows she had received during her marriage, and it was how to read people.
Why he had chosen to lie and save her, she didn't know, but she didn't see cruelty in him. And if he was a cruel man, well, she could flee. She knew King's Landing was a big city, she'd sewn her few jewels into the lining of her traveling dress, she'd slip away and no one would miss her and she would start anew.
She just had to hold on a little longer.
* * * * *
"Very well, my prince."
Aemond nodded and the servant left to prepare the bedchamber next to his.
He'd purposely avoided seeing his grandfather when he'd gotten back home, Otto Hightower would be furious when he found out Aemond had chosen a betrothed like the Lady Elyse. She was from a minor house to begin with, and now she was a widowed, childless woman who brought no political or economic advantage to the match.
But Aemond had seen the fading bruises on her neck and the terror in her eyes when her brother in law had said he was going to marry her, and he'd once again, acted impulsively.
At least this time, no one had died because of his carelessness.
He closed his eye and let his head fall back as he sat before the fire in his rooms.
He had to admit he'd been captivated since he'd seen her in her chapel, thanking the gods as she wept. He hadn't quite known what to think of that until he had seen her the next morning, her beauty marred by marks of violence, her poise and grace tinged with fear, and he'd known he had to get her away from here.
His quick mind had come up with no other solution other than tying her to himself and he'd spoken before the thought was fully formed. She had placed cold fingers on his hand and squeezed as if her life depended on it and he would find out just what had terrified her so much that she would willingly accept the lie he offered.
Kinslayer, they called him.
How awful was the alternative that she would marry him?

More on Otto as a tries but fails girl!dad and the non verbal communication with the greens. Just how he shows care for his daughter, even though he dooms her. He loves her, wants what's best for her, the family the realm but in doing so he has essentially signed off her execution.
When he tells her to once again visit the king and reprimands her for her self harm he holds her hands
Tumblr media
One could argue that this is simply a manipulation tactic and while i don't completely disagree I have other evidence I'd like to present.
Tumblr media
Look at how they're holding each other like this is a final goodbye. Neither knows when they'll see each other again. I know he (rightfully) warns her about Rhaenyra he cradles her face. Like it's something precious 🥺 (it is)
Tumblr media
Who is this look of devastion for? The imaginary audience? He was not only fired but ripped away from his only daughter. Realizing the mess he's put her in. How she is now truly alone.
Tumblr media
We know Criston was her sworn sword and one of the few people she trusted. It makes sense he stand behind her. He's got her back, but look Ottos there too.
Tumblr media
In this episode when she was worried about her brother she looked at dad for reassurance and he provided it. Knowing just how concerned she must have been.
Whether or not he's being a manipulative bastard when he does this stuff before he steers her in his own direction, using this to keep her tethered to him, it's quite clear that he understands how important these moments are for his daughter. Can you genuinely look me in the eye and say that Tywin would do this with Cersei? Hold her like she's the most precious thing in the world to him? Nope he'd just command her to do stuff and as her father it is seen as his right to do so.
Tumblr media
This family is so dysfunctional. You can love your child and wants what's best for them from the bottom of your heart, with all that you have but still mess up. In the modern day he'd probably be pushing her to a stable career like doctor or lawyer or whatever because he wants her future to be secure without realizing that it's not necessarily what she wants and being blind to how truly miserable she feels.
Sidenote: Wasn't Helaena his favorite grandchild, someone who was not a boy thus a potential heir? Otto is a girl! grandpa too. (If I'm not mistaken 😂)
When it comes to the girl! dad wars he wins because he taught his daughter accountability and how to not get screwed over in a bad trade deal, like idk give someone what is rightfully yours in exchange for being a consort to a king wiyh questionable lineage (Sorry couldn't help but shade the Viserys and Daemon)
OTTO DRIVES ME INSANE HE IS SUCH A DAD BUT HE IS SUCH A MAN TOO!!!!! WHY ARE FATHERS OF DAUGHTERS ALLOWED TO BE MEN???????
HE IS A GIRL GRANDPA TOO OH MY STARS 😭 They should show him with Jaehaera next, so he could add girl-great-grandpa to the allegations 😭
I also wish they had scenes together with Gwayne! In the books Alicent has multiple unnamed brothers, but Gwayne would have been enough, like can you IMAGINE the dynamics with him thrown into the mix??? Him with his DAD and his SISTER and his SISTER'S BOYFRIEND Ser Criston???? He got so shafted like he is the only person in this effed up family not to have a psychosexual obsession with Alicent?? Unfair!
I imagine they wanted to highlight Alicent's isolation as a source of her growing paranoia, but could you imagine??? Her having at least one more person is her small circle?? Standing up to their dad for her??? Holding her hand through her pregnancies??? Throwing shade at Rhaenyra together?? Bonding with Ser Criston over how much they want to commit regicide??
I'm not sure he stayed in King's Landing for all this period, but he could have at least visited once in a while? What we know is that he is named second-in-command of the Gold Cloaks at the start of the way. ALSO OTTO INTERACTING WITH A MALE RELATIVE OF HIS OWN GET THAT IS NOT A COMPLETE FUCK-UP??

Physical details: ↓
Head: Blonde, ear length, relatively curly (2C-3A) hair. One green(left) and one with cataracts(right), round and medium-set eyes. Snub-like nose with a visible upturn. She has thick lips with a thicker upper lip and a circular, slightly chubby face shape.
Body: Ectomorph but slightly thicker, Kite(?) shape. Large bust small hips, she's got tig ol' bitties tho 😫(I'm a sucker for women like that)
Marks (scars, birthmarks, tattoos, missing limbs, etc.): Her abdomen has a tattoo all around it with flower designs. She has no birthmarks. She's got some scarring from a poison dart on her back from trying to escape a captor(it looks like a dark fluid spreading on her back), one from her hairline to her eye from stray shrapnel, resulted in cataracts and ~25% blindness in that eye. And frostbite scars across hands and calves from an incident..(ooh~~). Her missing limbs include her left pinky and ring fingers, and her right leg (mid-thigh and lower gone) from torture while held captive. She also has a tongue piercing.
Other (height & weight stuff, skintone, nationality, etc.): Her skintone is tan, lots of freckles cover her skin. She lives in Australia but has an origin in Las Almas, her parents and other family live there, she moved to Australia. She is 5'11" (1.79m) and weighs 188lbs (85.2 kg). She tends to wear 2000s type clothes, sports bras, torn or worn cargo pants, colourful jackets, etc, and she loves her crown-like jewelry, makes her feel pretty.
Personality details: ↓
She's an open Bisexual to friends but not family, she's on the romantic or sexual spectrum as polyamorous(her and her husband are ready to add a plus-1). She is a Demi-girl and struggles with gender dysphoria very occasionally. She finds nature-like colors like forest green or mushroom brown quite pretty but will not admit that if there's a cool psychedelic neon yellow shirt, she will try it on. Outside people describe her as loud, rude and annoying. People she knows well however, describe her as still loud, but just reserved and distant, quoting something I imagine one of them saying: "she's rude when you first meet her but she warms up quickly as soon as you know her name". She is an ambivert, she uses social interaction to avoid her mental health but sometimes shuts down and can't even leave her room (Arach has a hitch that something's wrong but hasn't caught on fully yet). She's got no sensory issues that are prominent. And She does have mental disorders, including PTSD (ofc), Speration anxiety and rhotacism (she has difficulties in pronouncing the letter r).
And Military info!: ↓
She joined in 2009 at 19 years old, and was transferred to be in the SNS 3 years after joining. She has skills in basic, and advanced medical aid including field operations, Undercover missions, close range combat and some long range, and hostage rescue. But she has difficulties in keeping her emotions in check when in the field, along with using drugs (like morphine or adrenaline bc of being poisoned in the past).
Basic picture using gacha (I use it to visualize what they will look like with color)
Tumblr media
Pls don't mind the leg next to her arm 😭 I had to get rid of it somehow
And I will insert a photo I drew below (it will not have color)
I will add the picture as soon as I draw her.
I'm sorry if it's too long, read if you want but you really don't have to, she will be basically described in the fic.

Idk if you've already written but I'd love to know your hcs about genderbent Daeron (Daella)
ask me anything about my beloved genderbent targtower siblings and i will answer immediately, it's not even a joke, they're my favorite thing to talk about. of course! let me get into it. Noting here also that everything written here is in relation to The Protector of The Realm fanfic <3
Female!Daeron (Daella) Headcanons
◈ Daella is named after the daughter of Jaehaerys I. After two rambunctious daughters (Aerea and Aemma, F!Aegon II and F!Aemond respectively), there was a wish to have a calmer, gentler daughter around. Viserys named her because the previous Daella was one of the gentlest. And shhhh- yeah, maybe because it was also his first wife Aemma's mother. Yes you can hit him.
◈ And she was indeed gentler than her older sisters; she has went to Oldtown two times with her uncle Gwayne in childhood, and Lord Ormund Hightower dubbed her at nine Daella the Darling (until it changes..👀), but she was not without her own fire. She saw Gwayne fighting off bandits in one of their trips back to KL, and he inspired her to want to learn how to wield a sword. She wanted to learn to be strong for her family.
◈ Alicent was very fussy over in childhood. After tough childhoods with both Aerea and Aemma, she wanted no one at court to ever dare criticize her third daughter; and therefore Alicent arranged for many lessons in womanly arts and academics. Daella is known for singing well, in particular. Daella herself finds all those lessons rather tedious, even though she does her best to live up to the standards.
◈ She doesn't really know Viserys in good health, and therefore is rather distant from him. Her Hightower relatives, and later on, her older brother Rhaegal (M!Helaena) is more of her father figure for her. Because positive figures were given to her, she's more well adjusted than her other sisters on the topic.
◈ Daella is in a way, a mixture of all of her siblings. She wants to be as daring as her sisters and be as loving and kind as her brother. She wants to be as good of a dragonrider as Aerea, she wants to be a good swordswoman like Aemma, she wants to be as calming as her Rhaegal - these three are those who shaped her, and she desperately wants to not be left behind, and she desperately wants them to be well. ◈ She's the baby of the family, always listening in, always caring very much for any problem in the family - but she can also be the most courageous and speak about it. While her siblings internalize their issues, she puts hers forward - she always felt safe to tell them after all. Not a feeling that has been granted to her siblings in comparison.
◈ She and Tessarion devour in dragon races. Absolutely demolishes slower Vhagar and Dreamfyre. Sunfyre gives them a run for their money though.
Anyway, for more Daella stuff: do read The Protector of the Realm💗 Thank you SO much for letting me share my hcs, lol.

Love Me Bitterly [Chapter One] Secret Admirer [Adam]
Tumblr media
A/n: I'm not sure if I'll have much time to work on this, but I certainly wanted to go ahead and post the first chapter. I'm not a big fan of Adam, but I love redemption-based fics, so I was inspired to write one. If this type of story isn't your cup of tea, please ignore it.
Warning(s): lewd compliments, sexual harassment, secret admirer, OC, redemption-based fic, Adam is Adam.
Next Chapter
The art here is what Marcella looks like to me.
No Minors Allowed!!
Marcella curled her nose in disgust at the lewd compliment left on her desk; the third one this week, she noted. Each one complimented her in a way that made her feel uncomfortable, and dare she say, cheap.
‘Nice rack.’
She, like the others, crumbled the sticky note and tossed it in the waste bin. Whoever the pervert was, she hoped she never met them. With an uneasy sigh, Marcella put away her insulated lunch box and returned to her task, tending to the library.
While it was a fun and laid-back job, it was not what she would rather be doing. She was, for lack of a better word, promoted. Her sister, not by blood, but as fictive kin, moved her to the historical library to reflect on her actions when she nearly stood against an elected head on Earth who was abusing his power. It was her job as a warrior of the “Powers” to protect the cosmos from evil, and yet she was being chastised for doing what she felt was right.
Disobedience is what the Morningstar was cast out for, her sister reminded her. Tread carefully, or you too might suffer the same fate.
Marcella was sick of being reminded of this, a tale as old as time. Every angel through the hierarchy, from Seraphim to the Virtuous knew of Lucifer and his fall. If one toe crossed the line, it was, ‘Don't be like Lucifer’, but she saw no fault in her actions. Perhaps it was why she was still attending the library rather than looking in on Earth or guarding the celestial byways.
Regardless, she longed for action, rather than being the focus of some pervert's wet dream.
Woe is me.
Marcella tucked a strand of wavy light blonde hair behind her ear and grabbed the book cart, rolling it from behind her mahogany L-shaped desk. There was a stack of returned tomes the “Thrones” had checked out that she needed to return to the shelves.
As she sauntered to the middle of the room, she glanced around. The library was a relatively simple design with a wooden gallery and richly carved stone wall pilasters that dictated literary-themed nods. It was said to house thousands of books; from short stories to old tomes. Its only real shortcoming was how vacant it was. Marcella could hear a breath from a mile away.
She picked up a tome and spread her pastel orange wings and flew to the second floor, landing gracefully on the bridge that crossed between the circle. Her asymmetrical Alice blue dress brushed against her thigh as she sauntered to the correct shelf and deposited the tome at the bottom where it belonged; the heavier books always went on the bottom shelf.
The sudden sound of gentle footsteps prompted her to peek over the banister where one of her sisters, Rilea, stood. She was in her early twenties, a bubbly angel with a love for gossip. Her tea-length pale pink dress was clean and proper, not a stitch out of place, signifying that she was not on duty.
Marcella flew down and greeted her with a smile.
“What brings you here?” She asked.
Hopefully, to dismiss me from this pointless job, she opted not to say.
Rilea smiled wide.
“I merely came to see how you were fairing, sister.”
Marcella knew better than to complain.
“So Imelda didn't send you.”
“Why would she do that?” Rilea asked, tilting her head. “She has her hands tied at the moment, you know?”
She knew. There was never a lax day for the “Powers”, aside from library duty. Imelda was the Commander of their force, the same buzzkill who ‘promoted’ her. Marcella had hoped that she needed her back on duty.
“What did you come up here for then?” The blonde asked, lowering her voice in disappointment.
Rilea pouted.
“Don't be broody. I told you I came to see you.”
Sure she did. Marcella turned and rolled her eyes, sauntering back to the desk. She leaned her arms on the tabletop and glanced at the redhead, whose hair was more a soft muted shade, then raised a brow.
“What have you heard?”
Rilea widened her grin and bounced on the toes of her shoes.
“That you have an admirer.”
An admirer. Marcella frowned. Did she mean the pervert?
“That's an understatement.”
“Why say that? You're being unfair,” Rilea argued.
She was bent out of shape about this for some reason. Suddenly, the realization hit Marcella like a bucket of ice water.
“You know who it is, don't you?”
Rilea chuckled.
“I sure do, but I'm not gonna tell you.”
How childish. Marcella turned up her baby blue eyes.
“It's no skin off my back.”
“Then why did you want to know?” The redhead asked. She then widened her eyes and bounced in excitement. “You want to know because you are truly enamored by the idea of someone pining after you. That's so cute.”
Marcelle gave her an irritated look.
“I want to know so I can report them for sexual harassment. ‘Looking good today, babe’, and ‘You look sexy in that dress’ is not a compliment.”
Was this person full of themselves?
“Noted,” Rilea declared.
Marcella raised a brow.
“I'll let him know. I mean…I don't know him personally but, Nera, my friend the Exorcist does,” she explained. “The only way to your heart is pure gentlemanly romance. I never took you as a big softy.”
“Or you could just tell him to leave me alone,” Marcella stated.
She was not looking for a partner. All she wanted was to do her job.
Rilea stuck out her tongue.
“You're no fun, dear sister.”
Leaving shortly after to return to her post, Marcella was left alone again. Her thoughts wandered much to her dismay, to the pervert who had left sticky notes on her desk. Why did he like her? She was what the humans called a workaholic. It's all she ever knew; it's all her mother drilled in her head.
A sigh of unease left her.
Look at me now, grounded.
Besides her cutesy, despondent appearance, what was there to like?
At dusk, when the library closed, Marcella locked up and went home to her comfortable studio apartment. It was not much, but she loved the space. There was a big bay window right in her living area where she liked to sit and read, and then in her bedroom, across from it were her instruments.
One thing she loved about humans was their artistic talents, especially in terms of music. She bought a P-Bass after hearing her first riff, then also taught herself to play the violin; classical and rock - as the humans coined them - were her favorite genres.
Such music became so loved in Heaven, within reason, that Marcella even joined a small band, Frisson, who played every once in a while in the square. Their last performance was a fortnight ago, and while she didn't play much, she did fill in for the lead vocalist and sang. Her voice was decent, not suited to bellow out a growl or a scream, but she handled their slower, sadder songs just fine.
Since her Commander had benched her, perhaps she could get the band in agreement to play another gig soon. Marcella fell back onto her bed, spreading her wings, and sighed. She honestly had way too much time on her hands.
“I need a new hobby.”
Tomorrow, she vowed to find one.

@lotftober Final Day!!!
This isn't necessarily "trick or treat" but it's my thoughts of what the main LOTF boys would dress up as for Halloween + the backstories behind it (Modern!Au)
Ralph and Jack: Alice and the Mad Hatter (Yes, with the dress and heels and everything). Now, these two are the people who go above and beyond every year. Well, in their friend group, there was a bet- who ever got fired from their summer job had to wear a costume of the groups picking. So, Ralph got stuck with a cheap, blonde wig with a blue dress from his sister and Jack made his costume from scratch, even going all out with heeled boots and a top hat. Cute idea lol (could interpret as Jalph if wanted)
Piggy: Schrödinger's Cat (ily if you know what this is) Pretty self explanatory but I really think Piggy would love quantum mechanics and would do something silly like this. Plus I think one of his relatives or friends (idk maybe from school or smth) would go as Schrödinger!!
Simon and Roger : Moths!!!! (Hand made) Simon would make the costumes, either literal moths or costumes inspired by moths, and he and Roger would dress up together. The whole thing would be "Simon loves moths and they are attracted to light, so Roger is a moth because he's best friends with Simon" type deal. Idk thought it was cute! (Could be interpreted as Rogermon)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I'm sad that lotftober is ending but it was so so so fun and I'm excited to create more art on my own time (hence why there's no art today). Ily everyone who did art for this or was a mod! It was definitely super fun and can't wait to see what is (hopefully) done next year!!
I hate it when people compare Aemond to Visenya and Daemon to Maegor the cruel ?! It's supposed to be the other way around ! Daemon is Visenya and Aemond is Maegor ! Fucking hell ! (At least if we want to compare I mean. Book or series)
Also, this delirium of saying that Aemond is an anti-hero... So these people certainly haven't read the books, but even in the series, Aemond does not tick any of the anti-hero boxes.
Aemond is a villain. That's all. Having him kill Lucerys by accident on the show doesn't change that fact, it just makes him look like a jerk.
In episode 8, we see him literally enjoying the decapitation of Vaemond, when we have never seen such an expression (of pleasure, let's not lie) on Daemon's face when he was killing people. Simply because Daemon doesn't find it funny to kill people, nor does he kill them for fun.
Also, Aemond remains, series or book, a misogine and blood purist. What Daemon, book or series is not.
So, I'd like to know how people's brains work to call Aemond an anti-hero...
This post is EDITED.
There's nothing really "good" about this guy except his mother (so arguable and only if you stan or approve of her) and the fact that he rides Vhagar. And before others crow about how this is supposed to make him thematically paralleled to Visenya, may I point out that it is Daemon who has Visenya's sword, Dark Sister. Given to him when he became a knight at 16 by Jaehaerys I (yes, that misogynist prick of a King). You know....the sword that is more symbolic of familial protection than a dragon that only owes its allegiance to whoever rides it (not a bad or inferior thing, just need to point out how swords have the symbolism of political and emotional loyalty that accentuate familial love and bonds when we note their signifier of royalty and feudal protections, whilst dragons have a broader, more varied character).
And Dark Sister has a long history of loyal, loving supporters of Targ heirs and rulers: Daemon, Brynden Rivers, Baelon (after Aemond dies, in revenge mission), Visenya....come on now! Jaehaerys I even wields it when he is reclaiming his birthright. Plus, swords culturally carry so much history
Aemond is like Visenya in that he enables the wrong candidate to be/maintain being the King, but Daemon is like Visenya in that he has done and will do whatever it takes to support their person above all, through extreme violence. Daemon takes after most of the best or admirable of Visenya. (The brutality unfortunately is also inherited and shared with Aemond)
Do we remember how Visenya told Aenys I to burn down the Holy Sept? How she definitely reveled in burning Dorne after Rhaenys' death? What sort of passion for a relative/lives does Aemond canonically display? How she made a point to Aegon I about him needing a personal guard by being quick with her sword and cutting his cheek after he wouldn't listen? The same guy who didn't go to King's Landing to rescue his mother and sister after Rhaenyra took it despite saying he would?
But by being raised by Alicent (who would have despised Visenya and her "witchery" and just by being a confident, proactive woman) how the hell would Aemond care for Visenya, the figure, at all?
As for Daemon being Maegor....Maegor openly killed people who did not deserve it.
Vaemond? Deserved.
The "criminals" of KL? Dicier, admittedly. It's not like Daemon would care to take a breath to discern who is merely accused and who actually did those crimes. Mirrors how Visenya was willing to murder anyone in the Sept along with that High Septon.
Rhea Royce's death? Plausible deniability (but for me, it didn't happen at all): she took 9 days to die (not his MO of quick deaths) and he was at the Stepstones for all of it. Horse riding is dangerous as hell, Rhea would be surrounded by people in her hunting retinue, servants, etc so there were witnesses, Daemon could've had her killed long ago when they were still married and even had it done through an assassin when Rhaenyra had her first period and was marriageable but didn't (instead marrying Laena, too), and if he did send an assassin why did this person leave Rhea to linger at all? Why would a good assassin just let Rhea longer for 9 days (why would Daemon not hire a good one if he were going down that route? Even if he didn't have the funds to hire a VERY good killer, if he was dedicated to having her killed, it'd have to be a proper job or he'd be accused easily, so again, he'd like to find one of the better skilled assassins, which is expensive)? And why wouldn't Daemon hire a good killer?!
Laenor? If not Corlys (and why not, but that's a separate discussion), then Rhaenys, who has known Daemon and lived close to him for years, thinks he didn't do it he didn't. Neither stupid nor unobservant, this one. Passionate about her family as well. She would have never let Daemon get away with it.
I just wanted to thank you for your metas. I’ve never liked Daemon but could never put my finger on why I didn’t like him. Some of your metas cleared it up for me.
Ok so question. I know you consider Alysane a Mary-Sue, but what about Jaeherys I? I’ve always considered him a Mary-Sur but I wanted to know what you think?
Thank you for the compliment regarding the metas. The Other Dæmon is one of my least faves, and while I don’t like writing about him (with negative asks I feel like I keep repeating myself), I’m glad I could help you express your dislike.
Dæmon Tárg is a decent example of an ASOIAF male Mary Sue in that he steals the spotlight from the protagonist (Rhànyra, and ideally Alicent is the deuteragonist), overpowered (he’s the best/experienced commander, has one of the best dragons and one of the ancestral swords, his men are so loyal to him that they surrender King’s Landing because he was in charge of them a decade ago…what’s this guy’s weakness?), the center of attention (liked or at least tolerated by the sympathetic characters and hated by the unlikable characters, even if they have a good reason for it), irresistible to multiple exceptional women (to the point he takes over their narrative and he’s old enough to be their father), his comeuppance isn’t proportional to his actions, etc.
I can definitely see that Jaehaerys has Sue traits, such as sparring three men at once, being able to kill a much younger man in a trial by combat because he’s so great (but seriously he’s just a scholar, guys! Again where’s the balance), he ordered Elinor Costayne (the only surviving non-Targaryen Black Bride, thus a victim of Targ supremacy) to preach the doctrine of Targ exceptionalism, and apparently the Dornish mourned his death even though he led two armies/4 dragons against them resulting in thousands burning alive. However, we see that when he gets into conflict with Alysanne, she’s consistently in the right. He says there’s no problem with the KL water and building a water system would be too expensive? She serves him a tankard of filthy river water at a council meeting, which persuaded him to clean up the city (even though building roads was supposed to be his big achievement). He says the lords will be reluctant to part with First Night? She sympathizes with the victims and gets him to ban it. He exiles Saera from Westeros saying she’s always been a whore? Alysanne begs to see her (lady you have a fast dragon just go to Lys) after so many of their kids have died. He names Baelon his heir over Rhaenys? Alysanne says a ruler needs a good head and heart, not a cock, and leaves him for a year. I don’t think we’re supposed to agree with Jaehaerys for his stance on women wrt First Night and his family politics, but instead Alysanne. Considering she wondered about joining the silent sisters in her old age, she had fallen out of love with him considering he kept forcing her to bear children against her will (never mind he refused to consummate the marriage early because he feared for her health; F&B and consistent characterization don’t mesh well), and we’re not supposed to see this as a good thing. His cruelty regarding Saera and Daella led to their deaths and exile (Alysanne objects to their treatment and is part of the rift between them); he gets a Hoster Tully-like ending where he’s senile and confuses an attendant for Saera, thinking she’s returned, so clearly he didn’t die with dignity but rather regret (another point against his Suedom, as Dæmon got a heroic death he didn’t deserve). Another point to consider is that Alaric Stark—a fairly sympathetic character, and a relative of our Stark protagonists—never forgave Jaehaerys for his brother’s death, but instead warmed to Alysanne. Considering the main series, we’re not supposed to sympathize with Jaehaerys’ decision to hang the starving mob who killed his Lord of Coin Rego Draz by their entrails; that’s the act of a tyrant, not a just king.
I think it’s pretty telling that many people in fandom were shocked by Jae1’s portrayal in F&B. We were consistently told he was the Targ’s best ruler who reigned peacefully for 50 years of prosperity; F&B shows him as a petty sexist who tortured his wife and daughters and whose best ideas came from Alysanne or Septon Barth. There were some complaints about Alysanne (regarding her lack of a backbone wrt some of his decisions), but not about how spiteful she was (the exception is with Viserra who is so cartoonishly vain I don’t know who I’m supposed to root for in the conflict) nor how other people are responsible for her ideas. I think in comparison with other characters I deemed Sues, Jaehaerys isn’t one because we’re supposed to see him as a flawed person, his flaws are sometimes not put on a pedestal (Dæmon’s faithlessness with willing women is stylish; Jae forcing Alysanne is not), not every sympathetic character likes him (though tbh it comes close), and he gets a fairly humiliating death haunted by regret. He gets more flaws so Alysanne can get her triumphs and tragedies.
Thanks again for the ask and compliments.
Here is my Desperate Housewives character rankings that no one asked for!!
I've been done with season 1 for little over a week now so I really thought about this. Here are my top 5 and the rest and my overall thoughts are under the cut if you really want to know.
1. Edie fucking Britt - I will not be elaborating.
2. Rex Van de Camp - other than him cheating he seemed like a good person. he just wanted to be dommed from time to time and his wife wouldn't do it. didn't deserve to die.
3. Lynette Scavo - me as a white woman. minus the whole sabotage her husbands career plan bc she doesn't trust him to not cheat. i think that says more about her than it does about him.
4. Bree Hodge - Her and Lynette were neck and neck for my favorite housewife but then she kink shamed her husband. shes just trying her best to be a good mom and has ocd for sure. (High key reminds me of my mom and she said it was her favorite character too)
5. Doug Scavo - dedicated husband and father. can't wait for him to be a stay at home dad during the coming seasons. HOWEVER i do think that he did cheat already or will in the future.
Edie fucking Britt - She just the most normal character out of all of them. I feel like the writers wanted people to hate her, or at least be a strong divide of those who love or hate her. And I am one of ones who love her.
Rex Van de Camp - other than him cheating he seemed like a good person. he just wanted to be dommed from time to time and his wife wouldn't do it. didn't deserve to die.
Lynette Scavo - me as a white woman. minus the whole sabotage her husbands career plan bc she doesn't trust him to not cheat. i think that says more about her than it does about him.
Bree Hodge - Her and Lynette were neck and neck for my favorite housewife but then she kink shamed her husband. shes just trying her best to be a good mom and has ocd for sure. (High key reminds me of my mom and she said it was her favorite character too)
Doug Scavo - dedicated husband and father. can't wait for him to be a stay at home dad during the coming seasons. HOWEVER i do think that he did cheat already or will in the future.
Martha Huber's Sister - weirdo who decided to move into her dead sisters house so she can terrorize the neighbors. i think gets off on others misery. less annoying than her sister.
Mary Alice - i like her as the narjrator, but i know she had to do what she did for a deeper reason than what they kind of explained. i'm sure they will use some kind of mental illness as an excuse, or we'll never find out why she really did it
Carlos Solis - Those last two episodes were damning for him. I thought he was relatively okay but he is an abusive mamas boy and gay basher. has zero respect for his wife and treats her like a tool to be used.
Martha Huber - nosy neighbor but was annoying about it. however, she is haunting the narrative from the grave so i have to give her props for that
Mike Delfino - he's was bad at his job that i didn't even know what it was. and then when he could've completed the job he didn't.....whatever.
Julie Mayer - a child who has a super weird relationship with her mother. just grown as hell for no fucking reason. she's just as annoying as her fucking mother. but she's a child so i hope she becomes less insufferable as the seasons go on.
Carlos Solis - those last two episodes were damning for him. I thought he was okay but then he turned into a jealous abusive mama's boy and i'm pretty sure what Carlos did to Gabi's birth control was hell illegal.
Gabrielle Solis - pedophile.
Weird Pharmacy Guy - i don't feel like looking up his name because he gives off incel vibes and he killed Rex. when will he get that Bree does not want his touch deprived ass. i hope he gets what he deserves that's trying to meddle with Rex and Brees' marriage -
Danielle van de camp - I don't think about her really
John the gardener - I don't really care about him, he needs therapy.
Zach (Dana) Young - he has some real psychological problems. i hope he gets some help. I don't like the way he's being written
Paul Young - weirdo but valid? please be better at being inconspicuous
Susan Mayer - I hate her. The worst housewife. Every time she opens her mouth I have to mute the TV. She is the worst kind of white woman to me. Whatever TV trope she is it's so fucking annoying. God. Fucking hate her so much. (imagine that was in all caps)
Andrew Van de Kamp - he is only under Susan bc he is a scum person even if he is just a child. spoiled rich kid at its finest also he ran over a woman. um found out he might be gay or is gay and now i don't know how to feel. obvs he still did shitty things and his actions had no consequences so i am looking at the writers sorry now. especially because of the whole conversion therapy shit. Hope he does not get worse than this.
Thoughts: Loving the mystery aspect of the show. Its pretty much giving me exactly what I want, and that is white women mess. I feel like this is the shit that is happening in the bougie neighborhoods in my area. The characters are entertaining and the series seems to be fairly well written. OHMYGOD the cliff hangers were a fucking 10/10. If i was watching this back when it aired, week to week!!! I hope it stays entertaining throughout the whole series.
Aegon II Rant
I am sorry to be that person because anything relating to SA is non-defensible to me, but I feel like this needs to be said. Is it possible Aegon's behaviour is just a cry for attention?! I mean he is in constant need of reassurance ("Do you love me?" "You imbecile") as well as feeling undervalued ("I did not ask for this. I've done everything you've asked me to… It will never be enough for you or father."), and he is constantly being pushed into something he KNOWS he's unfit for. Furthermore, everybody keeps telling him in subtle ways he's not right for it too (his mother disinherits him, his father doesn't give two s*its about him, his sister/wife detests him in the sweetest way because Helaena and one of his brothers YES THERE ARE TWO OF THEM agrees that he's unfit). He knows that the crown in a death sentence saw the way it absolutely destroyed Viserys. And yet he has been pushed towards it, has done anything and everything to forget his existence and how he is inching closer and closer to a destiny he wishes he can run away from. It's like watching a live-action trainwreck, an interesting one, but a trainwreck nonetheless. Moreover, he is constantly in a fight or flight response thanks to being force-fed this narrative that his nephews and older sister will kill him just because he exists. He is forced to marry his younger sister despite not being attracted to her whatsoever, actively ignores her (as she tells us during the feast scene) and probably could not care less about his children, all to reach a goal that is not his?! He has been telling us, since ep 5 I think, that he does not want the throne. And although he does pull a Jon Snow *insert 'I Don't Want It' gif here* Jon had something that Aegon II does not have, which is some sliver of support, a family who loves him and actual friends. This boy is so isolated and had absolutely no self-confidence whatsoever that it makes me sad at times. Because if Alicent really wants to say he is no son of hers when he SA's that girl, then she has to acknowledge that every step she took, every horrible thing she has whispered in his ear during his entire life, has led him here, has made him this shell of a white dude who I couldn't hate more.
It really brings forth the concept of nature vs. nurture for me, because we've seen him be a relatively normal boy, joking around with his nephews and playing pranks on his brother. But then he evolved into this, and it breaks my f*cking heart and makes me mad as hell. (I will refer you to this Philip Larking poem).
Yet, I find myself feeling somewhat sorry for him sometimes, despite him being a horrible, rancid human being. Shoutout to the actor, because as soon as people started cheering for Aegon I saw the flicker of somesuch emotion in his eyes and it made me shiver, because yes, this boy just wants acceptance despite being horrid. Thank you Tom Glynn-Carney for making me hate you and love you at the same time!
My dcla relatives ocs and headcanons about who's related to who
Cause I don't just have next gen ocs, I also have some ocs for relatives they have. Many of them do not have names yet, but I may have some ideas of who they are. Also, this will also not only have ocs, but also other characters that I think might be related to them.
Camila has four younger sisters: Eva and Ada (they are not ocs but you know, they are def her sisters, born 1998), Lola (Born 2001) and Lili (born 2009)
Since Ámbar is adopted, her biological family very unknown, and I'd like to believe she has a younger sister somewhere from her biological dad's side... I have not decided if this sister is gonna be Isadora from Netflix's Elite, or a brand new oc lol. I also have this idea that her biological dad has slept with a lot of women and thus have these fatherless children all around the world. Let's be glad Ámbar has mommy issues and not daddy issues and never craved to know who her dad was, or else she'd open a whole can there. It would be very interesting for this girl to do a dna test someday.
Angie is second cousins with Caterina from Entrelazados. Caterina's grandmother has two siblings, one of the siblings are the grandparent of Maria and Angie, and the other is the grandparent of Sharon and Lili. Which, yes, means Violetta and Luna are distantly related. Although, Angie is only aware of Caterina as their families were slightly closer. Thank you Entrelazados for having like every dcla actor in one show so I can make all of this up!!
Continuing with the dcla and d+la connections... Luna is distantly related to Lupe (and thus also Pipe) from Siempre fui yo. Maybe second or third cousin, but they do share a great grandparent down the line.
Simón is first cousins with Morgan from Papás por encargo, and Leon is first cousins with Miguel from the same show :)
Gregorio and Rey are twins. Their uncle is Franco from Entrelazados.
Federico and Matteo are half siblings. They have the same dad, who left Fede's mom. He has never told Matteo about his previous relationship. One day the half brothers are gonna reunite.
Juliana is sisters with Alice from Bia.
Simón also has one older sister (born 1995), one younger brother (born 2001) and two younger sisters (born 2006) and I don't have any names for them yet. But they are there.
Ramiro has two older half siblings, a brother (born 1996) and a sister (born 1997). He also has a younger half brother on his dad's side (born 2002) and a half sister on his mother's side (born 2005). Also, he has a stepsister (born 2001) and a stepbrother (born 2007). So yeah, he has a giant family.
Jim has an older sister named Julia (born 1998), and Aillén from Bia is her younger cousin.
Jazmin has a younger sister (born 2008) that she wants to mentor in fashion and makeup to, but her sister isn't too interested.
Yam has two younger brothers: Manny (born 2004) and David (born 2007). She also has a cousin (born 1999) that she looks up to a lot, though I have not gotten a name for her just yet.
Delfi has a younger brother (born 2004) and she finds him really annoying, but she loves him too.
Maxi has a younger brother (born 1997), which he mentioned having in the pilot.
what i personally think would happen if the bllk characters were in alice in borderland
cause i love bllk and aib season two just came out and i love aib!! i was gonna make this earlier like before 2022 ended but i didn’t have enough time.
possible bllk manga spoilers & aib spoilers! read at your discretion D:
THE FIRST STAGE — REGULAR PLAYING CARDS
isagi yoichi, chigiri hyouma, bachira meguru, & kunigami rensuke !! — excels in club & spade games. and they’re a little group! just like arisu, chota, kurabe, and shibuki <;3 if you know what’s coming, sorry (i’m not)
isagi might not be physically strong but he has good endurance and is one of the more intelligent characters. actually, he might even pull off a low-mid difficulty diamond level game but he sticks to his strengths of clubs & spades. i feel like he’d lean closer to club games so he can work w others and form bonds w them if they all manage to survive! he’s trying his best and he really wanted to get back to the real world so he can tell his parents he’s okay, he thinks they’re worried sick about him and they are.
chigiri is just like isagi. he, isagi, kunigami, & bachira met in a club game and they made the fateful decision to team up! they’ve been together ever since. it was isagi’s first game- the others were still relatively new, but not a beginner like him. chigiri is still paranoid about his acl injury because the club & spade games are very physically demanding for him. but once he discovered how much he wanted to live, for his sister and his mother, he was able to overcome that mental block. i also think chigiri is able to pull off a low level diamond game if he’s lucky
bachira’s the one that keeps everyone’s spirits high! he’s agile and fast so spade games are right up his alley. he has no problem working w his three buddies so club games are also a personal preference of his. he likes to make light of every dark situation they might find themselves in; give them hope in hopeless times. the anchor of the group :( bachira once confessed he’s never negative and never gives up cause his mom would kick his ass if she found out he did. he wants to go back for her.
kunigami secretly finds spade games fun. they challenge him and he’s able to get stronger the more spade games he participates in. he also has no problem with the occasional diamond game either. he’s got a good head on him, why not use it? he, much like bachi, tries to keep the groups spirits up. but, unfortunately, kunigami got himself in a bit of a bind. he was a bit too selfless. he made the decision to sacrifice himself for isagi, chigiri, and bachira if it meant they could live. it was a hearts game. their visas were running out and they almost had no choice. isagi, chigiri, and bachira were the only survivors of their 13 person game.
who know what else this world has in store..
rin and sae itoshi — diamond and spade games galore!! these smart asses love a good diamond game and their physical strength shines in spade games.
despite the two of them never ever getting along, their new circumstance called, no, demanded for teamwork. they still had their arguments and disagreements, that’ll never change. but at least they cooperated during games. it was all they asked for each other.
sometimes they split to do other games alone and had a designated meetup spot. sae would try his hand at low level heart games and would be surprised to see how well he’d perform. rin attempted a club game on his own, he knew damn well working w his brother would be difficult but his visa was counting down the days.
he ended up meeting aryu and toki in this game and to his surprise, he didn’t completely hate it. and he didn’t die either, which was also nice. the three of them formed a nice alliance that rin could rely on, he asked them to stick around for a while until it was time to meet with sae again. they agreed.
sae, in one of his diamond games, met a trio of players named oliver, kazuma, & sendou. he found all three of them to be rather annoying, but when one of their friends kazuma died in the game, he felt … bad? sae hated the idea of working together, he had no idea who was going to betray him- even rin. but he figured some temporary company wouldn’t hurt anyone.
THE BEACH — EVERYONE IS HERE CAUSE PLOT!!
our little trio- isagi, chigiri, and bachira- had heard of a paradise called the beach during one of their games. chigiri talked to one player named aryu who might’ve accidentally let the name slip. he was immediately infatuated with chigiri because how in the world was his hair so shiny and smooth in a post apocalyptic world like this? a miracle. aryu had no problems answering chirigi’s questions, even the location of the beach was so easily given away.
chigiri had no idea how long aryu was a member of the beach, but his answers were good enough. now, after that game, all three of them had a least a week each to search for the beach. it was perfect. they were going to be safe! have a nice place to rest, maybe even a good meal! at least, that’s what bachira always said. isagi was still in a strange slump because of what happened with kunigami, but he was still focused on the task at hand.
finding the beach.
they found themselves outside of a resort, with spray paint over the name- BEACH. they found it. they were here! when suddenly- everything went dark.
isagi was the last to wake up between him and his friends. the three of them were tied to chairs and in a dining hall that was emptied out. there were people in the room with them as well.
the guy directly in front of them introduced himself as oliver aiku, but they were to call him hatter. to his left was sendou shuto and sae itoshi. turns out sae’s chosen company was good company after all. there was a tall player, styled hair and round frame glasses as well. another had black spiky hair with purple ends and a sly smile plastered on his face. in between them was a guy with white hair, an awkward green stripe of hair going down the center of his bangs. those three guys were armed. on the other side of the room, there was a duo. one with purple hair and one with white. these guys weren’t armed, for some reason. what they all had in common though, was their clothing. beach clothes. weird, on theme, but weird.
isagi, chigiri, and bachira were allowed to join the beach as official members! they had to wear beach attire, oliver says it’s harder to hide weapons that way.
isagi was approached by the duo from the room. they introduced themselves as reo mikage and nagi seishiro. reo explained the hierarchy of the beach. he and nagi were oliver’s executives, along with sendou and sae. sae had taken kazuma’s spot after his death in the diamond game. but the beach was split. oliver’s half- and karasu’s half. the mercenaries were allowed to have weapons on the beach, and they were the ones most likely to participate in games. karasu’s executives were yukimiya kenyu, tokimitsu toolazytolookuphisfirstname, otoya eita, and rin itoshi.
aryu and toki took rin back to the beach after their game and karasu was impressed by rin’s talents. he knew right then and there he would be an excellent executive.
modified the beach’s hierarchy a little to suit the story idc IM IN CONTROL HERE
THE TEN OF HEARTS GAME.
unfortunately, as i’m in control, i need to kill some people off. our group is a tad bit too big to send into the final stages so i’ll try to keep their deaths canon to their aib counterparts (save for bachi- he has the power of my personal bias)
also if it’s not totally clear yet, the bllk’s counterparts to aib are
isagi = arisu, chigiri = usagi, reo = chishiya, nagi = kuina, bachira = chota (he’s supposed to be dead but again, power of my personal bias), kunigami = kurabe, oliver = hatter/takeru, karasu = aguni (random asf i know 💀 ran outta players), yukimiya = kuzuryu (but the king of diamonds will be someone else wink wink), sae n rin = ann- miss me w that “two people can’t be one person” THIS IS MY AU. I AM THE GOD HERE. i guess that makes toki that tattoo guy and aryu niragi huh 😭😭😭 promise aryu won’t commit any atrocities like niragi did. also don’t worry about mira. just don’t. trust me. i got a plan for her.
reo, nagi, sae, rin, isagi, chigiri, and bachira all survived the massacre at the beach. the ten of heart games had brought them closer together and they formed an unlikely alliance.
and finally, they had all the playing cards in the deck. now the face cards were surfacing.
THE FINAL STAGE — THE FACE CARDS
reo, sae, and rin were separated from the group when they were ambushed by the king of spades! sae and rin ended up together, as a duo once again, while reo was off on his own.
so that just leaves isagi, chigiri, bachira, and nagi to fend for themselves. nagi is worried about reo, he’s never really been apart from him. but he knows reo’s smart so he has faith.
they try their hand at a king of club game where they reconnect with aryu to their surprise. they thought he had died in the fire at the beach! they were worried cause they were one player short to play the game but with aryu, they could participate.
this is where they met the king of clubs, michael kaiser. he had a team of four behind him as well- alexis ness, annndd think of two other players from bastard cause i’m too lazy to look up their names 💀 but you get the gist.
also yea i was thinking about making kaiser the king of spades but again… i got plans. wink.
michael and isagi were rivals in this game, it was no secret. and michael’s game was tough. an obstacle course that required both incredible physique and teamwork. michael might as well have been a heart as well because his shit talking nearly drove a wedge between isagi’s group. ness’ taunts and condescending words affected chigiri and nagi. they were able to pull themselves together at the last moment, and claim their victory.
michael and his group were killed by their group, but not before he explained that every face card game was a battle to the death. they might have won, but the couldn’t have done it without bachira’s sacrifice (sorry my personal bias is now in a committed relationship with reo) isagi was crushed. he had known bachira the longest, but his death was not in vain. isagi and chigiri stayed together after the game while nagi went to search for reo, and maybe even sae and rin if he got lucky. and aryu decided to separate from the group as well. just pretend like i have a good reason as to why he left.
reo, sae, and rin met up in an unlikely place. the king of diamonds. the man didn’t look like he’d be able to put up much of a fight. but he was lanky, tall, and had a bowl cut. he also had that creepy look in his eyes that freaked reo out lowkey.
his name was ego jinpachi.
his puzzles and riddles had the three of them stumped at times. the questioned seemed simple, they were “who is most likely to” and they had a hypothetical scenario with three different answer options. they were all sat in front of older screens with messed up font, it was hard to understand at first but they got the hang of it. and of course, those who answered wrong would die. at first, they provided tons of background information to help them answer the question. but as the game went on, the stories got shorter and shorter. but at least one of them had to know the answer.
they doted off of each other to answer the riddles and solve the puzzles. then at the last moment, ego had asked them “who is most likely to die” and presented them with four options instead. and, they weren’t allowed to talk at all.
option one- A liTTle girL WitH a BaD hEarT and NO DoNor
option two- a GuY wAlkInG oNto inComIng trAFFic
option three- tHe SMoKER wItH stAgE FOUR lUng CanCer
option four- thE GOod Jumper wIthiN his PAraCHute stIngs
reo, sae, and rin were the only three left alive, the other two players had died. it was just them and the game master, ego jinpachi.
the other three answers were obvious. but a jumper within his parachute strings? was he tangled in his parachute and that’s why he was going to die? or-
no. it wasn’t that. reo saw it. right there in the answer. the fourth option, the capital letters spelt out the game masters name.
EGO JINPACHI.
reo had his answer. he then had to wait for sae and rin to hopefully notice the same things he did.
and he was right (personal bias sorry i couldn’t bring myself to kill the toshi bros). all three of them had survived that last game, killing the king of diamonds.
players that were still left were able to defeat the other games and meanwhile, isagi and chigiri joined the queen of spades game, defeating her as well
sorry to speed through the queen of spades cause i loved her game but dawg there aren’t enough girls in bllk to give them a queen okay 😭 unless i make like idk julian loki the queen of spades LMFAOOO
moving onto the final arcss. the way this was just supposed to be a fun little rant and then turned into a whole ass au. god. it’s also so obvious when i decided to start turning it into an au 😭
the king of spades are going on killing people without mercy. isagi and co had reunited and they were ready to try to defeat the king. after someone had crashed their car into him, and he had gotten out without a scratch, isagi and co knew they needed a good ass plan and a lot of strength to beat him. before they could come up with a real plan tho, the king of spades removed his hood and mask. and he was—
kunigami?! 😱 (act surprised)
isagi couldn’t believe it. he thought kunigami had died a long time ago… but here he was. standing in front of him with a neighborhood body count the bad kind, an assault rifle, and a dream with the intent on killing him.
well, canon to episode seven, kunigami packed everyone else up except isagi 😭🙏 nagi? shot trying to protect reo (to bllk’s canon it would be the opposite but i refuse to critically injure reo so bite the bullet nagi! literally) chigiri? stabbed multiple times. reo? beaten up while trying to avenge nagi (he was not shot or stabbed, again i refuse to hurt my boy) sae and rin? shot and shot (and probably shot again) it was brutal. unfair, even.
kunigami then tracks down isagi who was busy building a bomb in a nearby connivence store (oh these aren’t homemade they were made in a factory… a bomb factory. they’re bombs!) and the two are forced to have a heartbreaking confrontation :(( isagi wonders why kunigami was doing this, how he could easily kill so many people. kunigami was met with a cruel world after his “death” they had saved him and made him a citizen because his abilities were spectacular. unlike anything they had seen before. isagi was heartbroken, distraught, and angry. kunigami was one of the first friends he had made here, and now he was his worst enemy…
anyways kunigami blows the fuck up, with the help of best boy reo of course.
isagi goes to check on the rest of his buddies and finds chigiri is the only one left that can really move around. if isagi was smart he’d just leave chigiri w reo but hey! arisu took usagi so isagi is taking chigiri. rin and sae are beside each other, and reo chooses to stay with nagi.
chigiri and isagi move onto the final game. the queen of hearts.
she was beautiful. short red hair and a well put together business look. she had a tablet in her hands and puts it down when she greets the only two players there with a smile.
she’s the final game.
and her name is anri teieri.
anri would never hurt these boys in bllk’s canon but again this is my au and what i say goes
y’all know how the queen of hearts game goes shits too elaborate to type out here just go watch episode eight 💀💀
meanwhile, reo is tending to everyone else’s wounds, trying to keep them all alive. especially nagi. rin and sae were having their little ann & kuina heart to heart while reo was focused on nagi.
it’s a shame that they were only able to get along in death. sae couldn’t begin to express how sorry he was that he allowed their relationship to end like this. rin returned the same sentiment. they were both hurt and continued hurting each other to make themselves feel better, or to at least forget the pain. overcoming the other meant overcoming their own personal pain.
“when we meet in the real world… let’s be brothers again…”
sae’s last words— as his wounds were more fatal than rin’s. he was losing blood at a much faster rate than rin was. it was the first time reo had ever seen rin cry. no matter what the games had put him through, no matter what injury he might’ve gotten, rin never faltered. never cried. never showed any weakness like that. until now, as he watched his brother die before his tear filled eyes.
THE REAL WORLD — COLLECTIVE AMNESIA
tw for overdose for chigiri’s explanation!!
after the defeat of girl queen pussy boss anri, isagi and chigiri chose to go back to the real world!! they survived the borderlands. they got another chance to live. reo and nagi went back as well. rin was the last to say his decision, but he accepted to go back to the real world, grabbing his brothers hand before saying it.
rin woke up in the hospital, where his sleep deprived and saddened mother was sitting beside him. she rejoiced at his awakening. apparently, sae and rin had gotten into a car crash after practice. sae was in surgery and it wasn’t looking good for him at first but by some miracle, he was going to be okay. dad-toshi was waiting for his surgery to be over while mom-toshi stayed with rin.
down the hall, chigiri was being embraced by his sobbing mother and bawling sister. chigiri almost overdosed on medications for his knee because of the pain during practice.
in the room across from his, isagi was hugging his mother. he had devoted himself to soccer so much that he neglected his own health. it caused him to pass out during practice but because he had ignored his bodies needs for while, it raised even more issues.
but that wasn’t the important part, the important part was the boarderlands were over. they could finally rest.
CONCLUSION.
this… this was supposed to be short 🧍‍♀️well, shorter than this at least, it was only supposed to be like oooooo which bllk characters would be good at which games ooooo but then it turned into a whole ass au 😭😭😭 if you made it this far congrats. if your fave died along the way sorry 💀
didn’t know how to kill off the players in the borderlands in their real world so i just skipped it 🧍‍♀️ uhh idk bachi was possessed by his monster and had a failed exorcism and kunigami dropped weights on himself mid workout /j
also don’t ask about barou. i was in the middle of writing out kunigami’s reveal as the king of spades and then suddenly remembered him. barou could’ve had another i’m wasnt the king moment but i wasn’t in the mood to rewrite the majority of it already and i thought kunigami being the king of spade would kinda be like what happened with him and the wild card program. i couldve made barou take aryu’s place as “niragi” and also made him aguni at the same time but again too lazy to go back and change it in case i missed a detail and it’s just confusing. but if i did automatically include barou he would’ve been a mercenary and been the niragi/aguni of the group without any like… major atrocities.
and finally kira died in his first game, end of story <3
edit: OH MY GOD I FORGOT ABOUT SHIDOU HE WOULD BE THE TATTOO GUY 😭😭😭
How do you wished helaegon would be written in the show? Their characterization and their relationship as well?
Oh, this question... I have a lot to unpack here, haha. Get ready for an essay, this is going to need a readmore. This may come off a bit as a surprise, but I wouldn't necessarily want them to be a very romantic pair. In my own writing, my favorite aspect of them is that they are kind of groomed into their circumstances and left to deal with the consequences and the exploration of it, which applies here too. My main thing would be to establish them as a contrast to Rhaenyra and Daemon, while also being empathetic about it. We are speaking here about two children, brother and sister, forced into a marriage by either House Targaryen customs +/ political ploys to establish legitimacy (depending on if you speak of the books or show).
While Rhaenyra and Daemon tap into the Targaryen incest, hammer it in with the extra grooming aspect of it, I think I'd like Helaena and Aegon to be established as a couple who are aware that their circumstances led them to the forced marriage. They would struggle as children, but they enter the marriage knowing this is not what they chose, and they bond more as parents or life partners rather than romantic partners.
They should be friends and have a good enough relationship before the marriage where they can still trust each other, but it should be difficult for them with the extra layer of being husband and wife to represent how the sibling marriage tradition is not good and should not be glamorized. Aegon would struggle a lot because he feels like the only firstborn son in the realm that can't give his family anything. Most brother-sister marriages in the Targaryen line so far were either out of love or preparation to be ruling monarchs - and he can't give Helaena a crown or be the love of her life. He can't give their children lands, and their prospects will never be as good as princes of Rhaenyra's line because again, they are not the main line. which is why he finds himself more away. For Helaena, she also tries to cope and relish in the good moments they have as partners, but she struggles because the way things ended up, the children do grow up in a tough situation and she doesn't feel like she's good enough a mother no matter what she does. Sometimes she doesn't feel good enough a daughter in comparison to Rhaenyra, even. And then Viserys dies, and suddenly Otto and Alicent are propping them as King and Queen. And they're both terrified, because it's everything all at once and they are scared of their TB relatives due to... Daemon being Daemon, and well, the Driftmark incident. Criston tells them their brothers and children will be put to the sword, it's terrifying. And then they suddenly have hopes, however. They can make their choices, now. That nobody will ever look down on them again, that their children would be free to marry who they want unlike them (the Queen's leave would be required for royal marriages, and it's not likely Daemon would allow their children have good marriages to houses that may lead to a rise up against the crown imo), that they can make a happy life for themselves - it's within reach. Nobody will speak about their children, or brothers, or mother again. [ I imagine Aegon would convince Helaena in it - she would be more of a pacifist]. And they take up the King and Queen titles, in an attempt to make good lives for themselves and their children, in complete fear of what has been told them was going to happen if they don't.
It all shatters in B&C - as any hubris to take up the crown is met unkindly in ASOIAF stories, and their pain and grief and wroth eats them alive. Aegon's resentment and hate towards Rhaenyra festers as he thinks back how everything was taken away from him and how if he could do anything to turn the wheel he would've, and the story continues as it does. TL;DR: I want them to be a commentary about the Targaryen sibling marriage system. I want there to be sibling love muddled with their relationship as husband and wife, which they learned to vaguely embrace but not fully - and I want them to find their independence to say I don't want the same for my children, but in this lifetime this is what we have - each other. When it's all ruined by B&C, it's their greatest pain - they wanted the exact opposite and were left with nothing once more. ⁕ EDIT NOTE: I do also want to say Aegon can certainly be a nasty piece of shit in this case anyway. Helaena does not like it and speaks against it, but in this case, cheating that isn't expressed via sexual harassment is not relevant to how they feel about each other because they have an established relationship about it.
