A restaurant with an interesting name and logo! 山家 is usually read Yamaga (as it is here) or Yanbe, but it can also be Yamaya, Yamaka, Yamaie, Yamake, Yamabe, Yamauchi, Yanka, Sanbe, Sanga, or Sanke.

山 means mountain, and it’s read やま, サン, or セン.

家 means house or family. It can also refer to a specialty, expertise, or career. It's read いえ, や, うち, カ, or ケ.

And the triangle symbol between them is known as the triforce 三つ鱗 [みつうろこ], meaning three scales, or 北条家紋 [ほうじょうかもん] the family crest of the Hōjō clan. It was used in the Legend of Zelda games to represent electronic chips, because the game was apparently supposed to be set in the future, but they kept the symbol even after changing the premise. Huh!

転職、入寮、勤務すること3日、からの休日。

食料とかなくて困っていたので

お菓子食べたいし。コーヒーだって飲みたい。

買い出しにでる

転職先のホテルは山にあり、近くにスーパーもコンビニもない。

ほぼ空っぽのリュック背負って、歩きだす

夕べ降った雪が残ってるところもあって、気をつけつつ下る。

道の駅があったので、少し覗いたりしつつ

案の定、道に迷ったり。

道を尋ねたくても、人がいない〜

ウロウロして、少し戻って、

7kmは歩いたところで

目的地のコンビニ着。

洗濯洗剤、おやつ！コーヒー！

カレーパンのセールをしていたので、それも。

店前でカレーパンに齧りつく。

八ヶ岳連峰の眺めが美しいので、旨さ倍増ー！

下ってきた行きとは違って、

戻りは山々の眺めがきれいで、カッコよくて

テンションあがりっぱなし。

何度も立ち止まってはスマホでパシャリパシャリ。

買い出しが終わって

部屋に戻ってからの

この達成感、満足感。ホクホク感。

往復15㎞弱、コンビニに行く、って距離じゃないよなあ。

Three jōyō kanji today, and something very interesting! The surname 山之井 Yamanoi only belongs to about 200 people, BUT that rareness hinges on the middle character. Change it to 山ノ井 and you've got ~1,300 people, or to 山井 (also read Yamai) and that's another ~4,200. Cool, huh?

山 is read やま, サン, or セン. It means mountain.

之 is read の, これ, ゆく, この, or シ. It's used mostly in names these days, but in classical Japanese, it either meant "this" or it served as a possessive particle (e.g. apostrophe+s) or “of.” The latter is its meaning in this name.

井 is read read い, セイ, or ショウ. It means well (as in a well water) or town/community.

Bandits in Japanese Skyrim are called “Sanzoku”, which I think sounds awesome.

山賊

さんぞく

I’m guessing the history of this word is interesting, and very Japan-specific. I say this because 山 is the kanji for mountains, and 賊 all on its own can mean burglar or robber.

I’m guessing mountainsides were notorious for ambushes by 山賊? Or 山賊 liked to hide out in mountains? Something to look into later.

In any case, 賊 can also mean rebel or traitor, and it seems to only have the one reading (ぞく), so I’m going to try and keep an ear out for it when Stormcloaks are being discussed.
