JLPT Grammar げ・がち・っぽい・気味

What is the difference in usage among げ、がち、っぽい、and 気味? These grammar points can be difficult to differentiate, so I have gathered some notes and examples here. These grammar points are JLPT N3/N2 grammar points.

★～げ★

This is used it to describe something or someone (not yourself) who looks~ / seems~ / appears to~.

It is similar to そうに・そうな (sou ni / sou na), but げ (ge) is much more restricted with what words it can be paired with.

It is usually used to describe things like one’s emotions or state of being, whereas そう (sou) can be used with more general things like weather, etc.

Although this grammar is mostly used with adjectives, it can also be used with some verbs and nouns.

何か、言いたげだね。 They look like they want to say something.

ずいぶん、自信ありげだね。 You seem very confident.

そりゃあちょっとあやしげに見えますからね、そう思いませんか？ Well, that looks a little suspicious, don't you think?

同級生にテストの結果を聞くと、嬉しげな顔で100点だったと答えてくれた。 When I asked my classmate how they did on the test, they answered with a happy face that they got a perfect score.

★～がち★

This is usually used for something negative.

ありがち = tend to have

になりがち = tend to become ~

遅れがち = tend to be late

留守がち = tend to be absent

彼は、学校をサボりがちです。 He is always skipping school.

ずっと曇りがちの天気が続いている。 The constant cloudy weather keeps continuing.

一人暮らしなので、コンビニ弁当ばかり食べがちだ。 I live alone, so I tend to only eat convenience store meals.

私は空腹の時は機嫌が悪くなりがちだ。 When I am hungry I easily get into a bad mood.

★～っぽい★

① When following a noun or い-adjective, this means -ish, -like, -ly. Note: The number of adjectives that can be used with this are limited.

子供っぽい = childish, childlike

男っぽい = manly, like a man

女っぽい = womanly, like a woman

油っぽい = oily, lots of oil

② When following a verb, this means easy to do, or often do~. Note: This cannot be used with all verbs.

忘れっぽい = easy to forget, often forget

怒りっぽい = easy to anger, often angry

このコート、デザインはいいけれど、生地が安っぽいね。 This coat has a nice design, but the material looks cheap.

油っぽい食事は好きじゃない。 I don't like oily foods.

年を取ると、忘れっぽくなる。 As you get older, you become more forgetful.

君は飽きっぽいから何事も成功しないのだ。 You do not succeed in anything because you are quick to lose interest.

★～気味 (ぎみ)★

This is used to express that something looks or seems to be a certain way.

疲れ気味 【つかれぎみ】= looks / seems tired.

太り気味 【ふとりぎみ】 = looks / seems large

遅れ気味 【おくれぎみ】= tends to be late

寝不足気味 【ねぶそくぎみ】= looks / seems to be sleep deprived

残業続きで疲れ気味だ。 I've been feeling rather tired because of continuous overtime work.

新入社員は緊張気味の顔をしていた。 The new employee looked nervous.

彼は人の名前を忘れ気味である。 He tends to forget people's names.

彼女は遠慮気味にそう言った。 She said that hesitantly.

Utaki worship in Ryukyu Shinto - Forest where the gods descend in Ryukyu Shinto

Ryukyu Shinto is a polytheistic religion that has been practised mainly in ancient Ryukyu and the Ryukyu Kingdom (Ref). It lacks written scriptures, specific doctrines or founders, and is an animistic and ancestral religion of mythology and nature worship.

Utaki are places where the mythical deities of the Ryukyu Islands exist or visit, and where ancestral deities are worshipped. It is a central facility in local rituals and still attracts many worshippers as a sanctuary that protects the area.

In Ryukyu Shinto, it is women who serve the gods. Since ancient times, women were considered to have stronger spiritual powers than men in the Ryukyus, and the noro, who served the gods, and the yuta, who were shamans, were also women. So, it was completely off-limits to the public, especially men, during the Kingdom period, and even the king had to change into women's clothing to enter the sanctuary. Even today, most of them only allow men to enter up to a certain area.

Some Utaki have a stone monument called Ibe or Ibi stone in the centre of the space, but this is originally a sign to which the deity descends and is not a sacred body in the strict sense of the word (although in many places it is treated as a sacred body).

Among others, the Sefa Utaki, the highest sacred site, is believed to be a Utaki from the 15th-16th century, during the reign of King Shō Shin, the second Shō dynasty of the Ryukyu Kingdom. “Sefa” means "highest" and "Sefa Utaki" means "highest Utaki", which is a common name. The official name of the deity is "Kimigataki, Syugataki-no-Ibi (meaning sanctuary where the lord descends)".

Later, following the invasion of Satsuma (now Kyushu, Japan), the original beliefs and ancient colours of the theocracy were gradually weakened and dismantled by reforms that promoted modernisation.

木にまつわる伝説・神話

御嶽(うたき) 〜 琉球神道における神が降臨する森

琉球神道は、古琉球および琉球王国（参照）を中心に信仰されてきた多神教宗教である。固有の教典や具体的教義、開祖を欠いており、神話、自然崇拝のアニミズム的かつ祖霊崇拝的な宗教である。

御嶽(うたき) は琉球神話の神が存在、あるいは来訪する場所であり、また祖先神を祀る場でもある。地域の祭祀においては中心となる施設であり、地域を守護する聖域として現在も多くの信仰を集めている。

古来、琉球では女性の方が男性よりも霊力が強いと考えられており、神に仕えるノロやシャーマンであるユタも女性であった。そのため、王国時代は完全に一般人、特に男性の立ち入りは厳禁とされ、王であっても女性の衣装に変えて入域しなければならないほどの聖域だったと云われている。現在でもその多くが一定区域までしか男性の進入を認めていない。

御嶽(うたき) の多くは森の空間や泉や川などで、島そのものであることもある。御嶽(うたき) によっては空間の中心にイベあるいはイビ石という石碑があるが、これは本来は神が降臨する標識であり、厳密な意味でのご神体ではない (ご神体として扱われているところも多い)。

中でも、最高の聖地である斎場御嶽 (せーふぁーうたき) は、15世紀-16世紀の琉球王国・尚真王時代の御嶽であるとされる。「せーふぁ」は「最高位」を意味し、「斎場御嶽」は「最高の御嶽」ほどの意味となり、これは通称である。正式な神名は「君ガ嶽、主ガ嶽ノイビ (最高の神が降臨する聖域の意)」という。

その後、薩摩 (現在の九州) の侵入を受けて以後、近代化を進める改革によって、神権政治の本来の信念と古来の色彩は、次第に弱まり、解体されていった。

あきらめない

実は離婚した。まさか自分がそんな経験をするとは夢にも思わなかったので、今でもなんとなく信じられないでいる。もはや自分のものではないような、どこか現実味のない人生がずっと続いている。

7年もの時を一緒に過ごした。今となってはそのすべてが、長い夢でも見ていたみたいだ。もう、楽しかった日を思い出して泣くようなこともない。彼とつきあっていたわたしの延長線上に、今のわたしがいるのでは（おそらく）ない。その時のわたしと今のわたしは、どこかで完全に分離してしまったように思える。

過去の人間は死んだ人間と同じだ。あの時のわたしに二度と会うことはできない。わたしでさえも。

ゆるやかに死んでいったのだと思う。ずっとぼんやりとつらかった。彼がわたしを愛してくれていたのは本当だと思う。わたしが彼を愛していたのも本当だと思う。でも、何かが足りなかった。空洞がずっと埋まらなかった。二人でいて寂しいのは、一人でいて寂しいのより重症だ。単純に好き合っていればうまくいくわけではない。

膜のような哀しみの中で生きていたら、何かを少しずつ失っていく感じがした。こうやってぼんやりと人生が終わっていくのが怖かった。

みんなどうして一発で結婚がうまくいくんだろう？ わたしには難しかった。やってみないとわからないことだらけだった。実際に結婚してみてはじめて、自分が結婚に対して求めていたものがわかる。この生活を続けている限りは、それが手に入らないということも。それでいいとは思えなかった。わたしはわたしの人生をあきらめることができない。

だから、やり直すことにした。離婚したと言うと、もう、結婚はこりごりって感じ？（笑）なんて、ときどき聞かれる。こりごりなわけない。掴むために手を離すのだ。恋がしたいと書いた19歳のわたしと、28歳のわたしは何も変わっていない（残念ながら）。

わたしはあきらめない。 わたしが幸せになることも。 もちろん、君が幸せになることも。

わたしはわたしの人生を取り戻すために、そういえば東京に住むのが夢だったことを思い出し、東京へ引っ越した。ほんとうはやりたかった仕事をすることにした。ほんとうは言いたかったことを言った。ほんとうは助けてほしかった人に助けを求めた。ほんとうは好きだった人に好きだと伝えた。

わたしは少しずつ、ほんとうのわたしになる。そしていつかは、この空洞を埋めるように微笑み合いたいな。そう祈りながら日々を生きるだけ。

「私に女性らしさはありません」なんて言い方したのが良くないよね。ちゃんと「私は人に優しくしたり気配りをしたり空気を読んだり、状況に応じて接し方を変える事が出来ません。常に雑で粗暴に振る舞います。」って正確に言うべきだった。 上司も「女なんだから優しく」なんて雑な言い方をしないで「生徒に対する君の雑で乱暴な言動は上司として看過する事は出来ない。改める事を要求する。これは業務上の命令だ。」ってしっかり言うべきだったよね。お互いが適切に言葉を使わなかった事によるすれ違い。お互いが反省しないとね。

2023年9月5日に開催された「慰安婦問題をめぐる韓日合同シンポジウム」と6日の慰安婦像傍の街頭集会は、日韓の真実勢力がソウルに結集して声を挙げる記念すべきイベントとなりました。

シンポジウムが行われたコリア・プレスセンターでは、横断幕に日の丸が、開会時には君が代が斉唱されました。近年プレスセンターでこういったことは有り得なかったそうです。

また、6日の街頭活動は、正義連（旧・挺対協）水曜デモよりもさらに慰安婦像の近くで、正義連より参加者が多く賑やかに行われました。

2019年12月金柄憲氏、李宇衍氏らが、同じ場所で慰安婦像撤去の街頭活動を始めたときは小さな日の丸を持っていただけで、罵倒され妨害にあったそうです。

この日は青空をバックに大きな韓国旗と日章旗が翻り、参加者は韓日の小旗を振って声を挙げました。

위안부 문제의 거짓말과 싸우는 한일 진실 세력 공동 성명

慰安婦は日本軍が管理した公娼だった。貧困のために両親が受け取った前渡し金を返済するために売春に従事した女性たちだった。その時代を生きた日本人、韓国人はそのことをよく知っていた。

위안부는 일본군이 관리한 공창이었다. 빈곤 때문에 부모님이 받은 전차금을 상환하기 위해 매춘��� 종사한 여성들이었다. 그 시대를 살았던 한국인, 일본인은 그것을 잘 알고 있었다.

南労党出身の在日朝鮮人共産主義者はこう語っていた。「故郷の済州島の村では早く夫を亡くした未亡人が村の若い娘を連れて中国で慰安所を経営し、大変カネを儲けた。そこで、村人たちはこぞって家の娘も慰安所で働かせて欲しいとその女性に頼み、多数が金儲けのために慰安婦になっていた」

남노당 출신인 재일조선인 공산주의자는 이렇게 말했다. “나의 고향 제주도 마을에서는 일찍이 남편을 잃은 과부가 마을의 젊은 여성들을 데리고 중국으로 건너가 위안소를 운영해 많은 돈을 벌었다. 그래서 마을 사람들은 모두 자기 집안의 딸도 위안소에서 일하게 해달라고 그 여자에게 부탁했고, 다수가 돈벌이를 위해 위안부가 되었다.”

だから、反日政策を進めた李承晩政権も日本との国交正常化交渉で慰安婦への補償は求めていない。

그래서 반일정책을 추진한 이승만 정권도 일본과의 국교정상화협상에서 위안부에 대한 보상은 요구하지 않았다.

私たちは昨年に東京で、そして昨日ソウルで「慰安婦問題をめぐる日韓合同シンポジウム」を開催して、以上のような歴史的真実を確認した。

우리는 지난해 도쿄에서 그리고 어제 서울에서 ‘위안부 문제를 둘러싼 한일합동 심포지엄’을 개최해 이상과 같은 역사적 진실을 확인했다.

ではなぜ、慰安婦は公娼ではなく、日本軍に強制連行され、性的奉仕を強要された性奴隷だという、ウソが拡散し、日韓関係を悪化させてきたのか。

그렇다면 왜 위안부는 공창이 아니라 일본군에 강제 연행되어 성적 봉사를 강요받은 성노예라는 거짓말이 확산되어 한일관계를 악화시켜 왔는가.

その元凶は、強制連行、性奴隷説を広めていった日本と韓国の嘘つき勢力だ。日本の朝日新聞が職業的嘘つきである吉田清治の強制連行ウソ証言を繰り返し大きく報道した。日本人活動家が韓国で元慰安婦らを探し、日本政府を訴える裁判を起こした。原告の元慰安婦は強制連行されたとは言っていなかったのに、その証言を捏造したのも朝日だ。

그 원흉은 강제연행, 성노예설을 퍼뜨려 나간 한국과 일본의 거짓말 세력이다. 일본의 아사히신문이 직업적 거짓말쟁이인 요시다 세이지의 강제연행 허위증언을 반복적으로 크게 보도했다. 일본인 활동가가 한국에서 전위안부들을 찾아다니며 일본 정부를 상대로 재판을 일으켰다. 원고인 전위안부들는 강제연행되었다고는 말하지 않았는데, 그들의 증언을 날조한 것도 아사히 신문이다.

そして挺対協と遺族会という韓国の二大反日団体が日本発のこのウソを韓国で大々的にひろめた。それを韓国の新聞、テレビが第二の独立運動であるかのように大きく報じた。そして見逃せないのは日韓の嘘つき勢力が北朝鮮と緊密な連携をとっていたことだ。今回、正義連の元理事長の国会議員と現理事長が東京で北朝鮮の手先である朝総連の行事に出たことがそのことを象徴している。

그리고 정대협과 유족회라는 한국의 양대 반일단체가 일본발의 이 거짓말을 한국에서 대대적으로 확산시켰다. 그것을 한국의 신문, TV가 제2의 독립운동인 것처럼 크게 보도했다. 그리고 놓칠 수 없는 것은 한일의 거짓말 세력이 북한과 긴밀한 연계를 취하고 있었다는 것이다. 최근에 정의연의 전 이사장이자 국회의원인 유미향과 현 정의연 이사장인 이나영이 도쿄에서 북한의 앞잡이인 조총련의 행사에 참석한 것이 이를 상징하고 있다.

ところが、日本と韓国の真実勢力は民族感情などのためなかなか協力することが出来なかった。日本では30年間、真実勢力が戦いを続け、朝日が吉田証言をウソだと認めて過去の記事を取り消すところまでいたった。韓国でも、2019年からここ、慰安婦像のすぐ横で「慰安婦は売春婦」「慰安婦像撤去」を叫ぶ韓国の真実勢力が反撃を開始した。そしてついに昨年と今年、東京とソウルで日韓の真実勢力が合同シンポジウムを開催することが出来た。

그런데 한국과 일본의 진실세력은 민족감정 등을 이유로 좀처럼 협력할 수 없었다. 일본에서는 지난 30년간 진실세력이 싸움을 이어가, 아사히 신문이 요시다 세이지의 증언을 거짓말이라고 인정해 과거의 기사를 철회하기까지 이르렀다. 한국에서도 2019년부터 이곳 위안부상 바로 옆에서 ‘위안부는 매춘부’, ‘위안부상 철거’를 외치는 한국의 진실세력이 반격을 시작했다. 그리고 마침내 지난해와 올해 도쿄와 서울에서 한일의 진실세력이 합동 심포지엄을 개최하기에 이르렀다.

ここで私たちは宣言する。日韓の真実勢力が力を合わせて、日本、韓国、北朝鮮の嘘つき勢力の陰謀と工作を暴露し、彼ら、彼女らの責任を追求する。韓国と全世界に立てられたウソの象徴である慰安婦像を必ず撤去させる。

여기서 우리는 선언한다. 한일의 진실세력이 힘을 합쳐 일본, 한국, 북한의 거짓말 세력의 음모와 공작을 폭로하고, 그들의 책임을 계속해서 추구할 것이다. 한국과 전 세계에 세워진 거짓말의 상징인 위안부상을 반드시 철거시킬 것이다.

なんせ暑い、計画性がない、時間が余る。一人は食いしん坊なので、さばたろうのお腹いっぱいの状態で、別行動でグルメを求めて出掛けて行った。

残った二人は…チェックアウトギリギリの11時までホテルでダラダラ、私は頼まれた珈琲豆を買いに珈琲美美まで、んじゃ着いていきますと二人で、大濠公園まで行き、美美で、お使いの珈琲豆を買い、喫茶店は、12時からなんですねって聞いたら、いやーもうすぐ開店できますとのことで、少し待って美味しい珈琲ゼリーと、パウンドケーキを頂き、ここで、三人合流して、有り余っている時間を、残念な生き物展に行くことに、見てわかったのは、1番残念なのは、人間でした。まだまだ時間が余ってる。なんせフライトは21時なんだから、もう、これしか無いってことで、助けを求めて、映画館へ！君たちはどう生きるかを観るのでした。映画が終わり、扉を開けたら、そこは大阪であることを祈ったが、まだ、福岡でした。三人の感想は、映画館寒すぎる。と、わからん、何が伝えたいのか、わからん、でした。で、凄く体調を崩してしまった僕は、晩飯も無理だなと思い、地下の居酒屋で、皮巻き一本と、烏龍茶のみ、マジでしんどくなってきて、空港へ、奴らはラーメンを食べに行きやがった。凄い食欲、そのうちの一人は、さらにうどんを食べたとか！まじっすか、恐るべし胃袋です。ようやく21時、関空には、22時過ぎ到着、調べたら終電ギリじゃん！って帰りは頭痛が酷かった。なんとか、終電で帰宅し。翌日は、完全に風邪の症状でした。病院で検査したら、コロってはなくて、単なる鼻風邪のようでした。
