I have just finished another film and Iβm preparing to go away to an island to shoot another one which will take me up to Christmas. Then it will be Christmas dinners and sleep. β Lauren Lyle, Revamp Magazine, 9 October 2022
Remember when we learned the red-tinted hair was for a project filmed in the Dominican Republic?
I want Horizon 3 to dive deeper into nature vs nurture wrt βperfect clones.β Identical/near-identical clone tropes have always intrigued me bc the best writing of them shows that socialization is often the primary decider in how a person thinks and acts rather than their genes. Metal Gear Solid does this trope many big favors by juxtaposing Solid Snake, Liquid Snake, Solidus Snake, and Big Boss on axels of temperament, political beliefs, and modes of operation; theyβre all starkly different even though they share the same genes because each of them has different sets of experiences and theyβve learned different life lessons. Listen to the ending monolog of Metal Gear Solid 2 for more on this β it debunks the idea that a person has a set path because of their biology, and I love that message.
If Horizon is gonna do the twin clones thing theyβve gotta get into this issue better. I just hope Beta lets go of the βI need to be like you and Elisabetβ mindset and accepts she doesnβt have to be like them to be justified in her personhood. Labeling Aloy and Beta as sisters is a good start to approaching this topic because it establishes theyβre separate people even though they have the same biology (however imo they couldβve gotten to that point WAY better). They ought to realize that Tildaβs view on βsuperiorβ vs βinferiorβ clones is poison to their relationship. Sure, theyβre both children of the prophecy (in simple terms) but it only does harm to Betaβs self-esteem and fuels Aloyβs cocky temperament to label them as fundamentally one in the same because of their genes. Keep on the idea that theyβre separate people, Guerilla.
If tumblr didn't want to have people end up silenced in tumblr jail (post limitsville) then they shouldn't have introduced the quick reblog feature on mobile huh HUH
